RE: Looking for new authors

You might check Amazon. At the bottom of the page selling a particular book, they list other books that people with similar "likes" have purchased.
Also, you might look over the reading thread here at the Campfire.

Vacuum Cleaner??

What type vacuum cleaner to you have and like??
Time to get a new one and we're kind of out of touch with what's on the market. (Something from Kohl's or WalMart, please......LOL)

RE: American Idol - again.

But this show might well be on the way out for talent reasons as well as judges and, but for Jennifer's professional even if emotional input, contestants would gain little from the judges. Seems this season they forgot 'critique' is very positive reinforcement tool for amateurs. If a professional says "you're great, you're perfect" when they're not yet there, what motivation does that provide for these kids to improve?
These two nights were so different! However, I thought the men were much better, in general, than the women (who all kind of looked alike to me).
On the second night it was almost like the judges were scrambling. The first night, they were all sweetness and light--almost everyone was "great." Second night? Ooops....let's change the pace and nitpick everybody.
As for the critiques, each judge pretty much seems to say the same-old/same-old, over and over. I found myself going back and forth the basketball game on the radio last night, rather than really paying attention.
Time will tell, I suppose...but it just may be that AIdol needs a "real" shakeup. (Fan that I am, I can't believe I even wrote that...but....):R

A favorite of my grandmother's..."I'll paddle you where Mary wore the beads!"
Still haven't quite figured it out. LOL

Killing Lincoln by Bill O'Reilly. Good read.
Listening to the audio and I was surprised how interesting it is!

"The Broken Window"....by Jeffrey Deaver. Especially interesting information on data mining. I had never really thought much about it--downright spooky!

RE: Memphis must see, do ?

I'd skip the Rendezvous, as well. We enjoyed the barbecue at Blues City Cafe right on Beale Street. Simple, reasonable, and excellent.
A definite "yes" to Mud Island and the duck parade. ;)
Seeing Graceland was an accidental treat--didn't really want to go there. It was well worth the stop!
Love Beale Street, too.

RE: Super Bowl 1/2 time show!!!

Was that Richard Simmons in a skirt hopping up and down on that rope?:B
We had the same thought. LOL
As for the middle finger uproar, we didn't even notice it, either. We thought the show was enjoyable, and Madonna did her thing perfectly.

RE: JC Penney ad on TV is .....

This irritating screaming ad is in the same category as some of the humorous ads, such as the "wee, wee pig" ads. The problem with them is people either love them or hate them, but marketing survey after marketing survey has shown that all have one failing, that the majority of people that remember the ad don't recall the product brand being advertized.
Exactly! The pig ad is my least favorite of all...and I haven't a clue what company is using it for their advertising.

RE: How did you get rid of fire ants?

Fire ant bait is really the only permanent way. They carry it down into the nests and it works well.
Good luck!

RE: sad state of affairs.

Not really, Hammerhead.
I still see words like "surmise" and "reported" and "many" (not "all") in the article. (Besides, who really believes everything they read in a newspaper is factual?)
Put me down on the other side with the people who would rather give a little than wonder if they passed up a real need.

RE: sad state of affairs.

Not a rumor, I have seen it...recall a news story a while ago, they followed someone with a camera. He packed up his stuff, changed into nice clothes, climbed into a nice late-model car (I vaguely recall a Toyota Avalon), and drove (presumably) home with his take.
Interesting thread, even it we do have it here every year. ;)
Now, did you see it (that would mean actually seeing the person change clothes and climb into that Avalon)...or are you recalling a news story?

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Depends on what town you live in in Texas. I live in a town that still requires a yearly shot.
In El Paso, the actual shot is required every 3 years...but you get a new tag from the vet each year.

RE: No meat, fish, poultry, dairy or oils. Egads !

Forget spending a ton of $$$ buying books or doing the Jenny Craig/Weight Watchers (cardboard kids meals) or the whatever the DIET of the day is...all you need to do to lose weight is eat at regular intervals through out the day, use portion control in your meals, eat various fruits, veggies through out the day, drink lots of water, moderate your alcohol intake and spend 10 minutes watching this vid for a HEALTHY life!
23 and 1/2 Hours
Cheers
