RE: Where to camp in the Smokies

We love Smokemont Campground, which is located inside GSMNP, about 6 miles from Cherokee, NC. It is dry camping. There are some nice hiking trails that leave from the campground.

RE: How did you start fulltiming?

In May 1999 our business partner sold our business out from under us. In shock, we couldn't decide what we wanted to do. DH suggested taking a year to travel to decide. We hit the road in Feb 2000, and we're still out here! So, a bad situation turned out to be a great opportunity.

RE: Avoiding a pantry mess in the NEW trailer :)

I've been known to use cardboard boxes in my cabinets to compartmentalize the area. Shoe boxes & Amazon boxes work well. : )

RE: Best Campsites in Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Smokemont on the NC side of the park is nice too. If you have time, why not stay a few nights at a couple of different campgrounds? Beautiful national park!

RE: Bear Spray

This is our 7th summer working in Yellowstone. We hike a lot and both of us always carry bear spray. Have we had to use it?? No, thank goodness. But I think it is foolish to hike without it. Two folks were killed by grizzlies last summer...neither person was carrying bear spray. Would having bear spray made a difference? We will never know.
If you decide to carry bear spray, make sure it is easily accessible...don't have it in your back pack. Clip it to your belt so it is within reach. Also, use common sense...don't hike alone and always make noise so you don't surprise a bear. Chances are you will never use your bear spray.

RE: Question about tagging a MH out-of-state

FWIW - We are fulltimers and are Florida residents. When we bought our 5th wheel in Arizona, we contacted Florida and mailed them the required documents, plus a check for sales tax & registration. In just a few days, we received a Florida license plate in the mail. It was very easy to handle.
I am not familiar with SD law, but maybe something like that would work for you too.

RE: TriCare and TriCare for Life going up 435% next year.

Here is the TriCare newsletter that states family price will go up to $520 per year from $460 per year.
Newsletter
Count your blessings....most Americans who buy insurance pay at least that much per month...not per year. And did "most Americans" lay in the mud with bullets whizzing over their head, or leave their family to fend for themselves for months or years, while the military person was defending our precious freedom....:h...I think NOT.
I simply said to count your blessings. I am grateful for all of our veterans. My nephew is about to get deployed to Afghanistan. Again, count your blessings, and thank you for your service.

RE: MH or Fiver for FTer's

We may be weird, but we enjoy touring in our F350. We sit up higher than small cars and can see over guard rails when going down the road. We have friends who drove Hwy 41 through the Everglades and saw no alligators because they were eye level with the guard rail.
It is a personal choice, but we love our big truck!

RE: Buckhorn Lake Kerrville Texas

Buckhorn is a beautiful, well-maintained RV park. Owners are hands-on and very nice folks. They even have a small movie theater on the premises. We were there winter 2008. Kerrville is a nice town too.

RE: Senior pass

All the campgrounds in Yellowstone are owned by the National Park Service. Xanterra manages 5 of the campgrounds: Madison, Grant, Bridge Bay, Canyon & Fishing Bridge RV park. Their contract with NPS states Xanterra must have a reservations system for the campgrounds they manage.
Does that make it as clear as mud? :)

RE: Senior pass

In Yellowstone, the Senior Pass 50% discount is honored at ALL campgrounds, the ones that take reservations and the ones that don't, EXCEPT for Fishing Bridge RV Park which has full hook-ups.

RE: Amazon Experence

Reading these posts, it seems most folks work at Amazon for the money. Is anyone willing to tell us what the hourly rate is? $10, $15 per hour??? I'm not being nosy...just curious. Thanks!

RE: Redecorating

When we decided to replace our sofa with two recliners, we first determined what size the recliners needed to be. Then, we visited furniture stores with a tape measure in hand. When I told the sales person what we were looking for, she was very helpful in pointing out "smaller" recliners. We ended up ordering a couple of Lazy Boys, which worked out perfectly.

RE: Yellowstone

The good: It is a beautiful place and something everybody should see.
The bad: It isn't what it used to be, most of Yellowstone's reputation of beauty and natural wonders is from years past. The sad truth is that "naturalists" and other tree huggers have destroyed the Yellowstone of today.
Like I said, everybody should go but don't be disappointed if it doesn't meet your expectations.
:h Can you explain why you feel this way?
Yellowstone is such a magical place. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed.
