RE: AC/DC Frame Grounding. Need help.

My trailer came OEM with 120v ground and battery negative attched to the frame.
Fuses and switches on the 12v positive.
No bond (connection) between 120v neutral and ground in the trailer.
I would only have it this way. RVIA standards.
Also NEC standards.

RE: Dometic fridge stopped cooling..HELP!!

They do fail - I had a 2011 refer fail to cool with no yellow powder or smell. Just stopped cooling - Dometic ended up replacing the cooling unit.

RE: PLEASE HELP!Dometic Fridge emits Ammonia odor

I just had a Dometic cooling unit fail in a 2011 trailer. No smell or leak, it just stopped working. The nearest place that did Dometic warranty service was Camping World in Syracuse, NY. Took less than a week for Camping World to get the replacement from Dometic, a couple of days to schedule the installation, and 5 hours to replace it, all under warranty.

RE: New York camping

Even though purchasing train tickets for that many is expensive, I'd avoid driving.
The last time I parked in NY was 1980 & is was $12.00 per hour. Can't imagine what it is now. It also took almost an hour to get my car out of the parking garage...

RE: Estes Park, CO to Glenwood Springs, CO

According to The USDA Forest Service page, it is open . They have rebuilt the section towards the top with better railings & added a fancy deck at the lake.
As to water in July & August - I've been there in Late July last summer & in 1996 and both times there was plenty of water. This has been a fairly dry year, so there may be less, but you would get a better answer from someone in the area since I've only visited twice...

RE: giving a pill to a difficult dog

Well, there have been a couple of recommendations for the pill gun & I'll add mine. We had to give pills to a cat who really didn't want to take them & I have no idea how I would have done it (without bleeding to death from scratches & bites) without the pill gun. Also worked well for my brother's dog. Highly recommended.

RE: Class A motor home vs. car for trip out west

Since it is possible to make a case for either the RV or a car as being the least expensive, depending on the class of motel you are going to stay in, it really boils down to what you would rather do.

RE: DSLR, Live View and RAW question

This might be more technical that you really want to get into, but...
While shooting using the jpg format makes the most sense for most photographers, I'll have to disagree with "Jackthewonderdog" on there being no use for RAW except for producing large images. I can still open RAW images shot with my first Nikon DSLR (a D100) , and while it always make sense to check that new software is compatible with older files, if it isn't, I've found it is always possible to convert the old files before discarding the old software.
I do have to admit that I continued to shoot theatre productions on slide film for many years after digital had become the standard and the main reason was compatibility, but when it reached the point that I could shoot acceptable images at ISOs slide film was incapable of reaching, I gave up on film. Once you move from film to digital, you must be willing to be an active archivist no matter what file format you use. Even jpgs stored on a obsolete type of drive are not going to be readable...
I would not be all that concerned about file sizes. Each generation of hard drives & storage cards are larger & cheaper than the previous -My first "Massive Hard Drive"was a 91MB drive that sold for over $2000.00. You can now buy a 3TB drive for a couple hundred. A good way to produce backups of your files is as your external hard drive fills, purchase one twice the size, copy the data to the new drive & store the old one. I've been doing that for years & each new drive has been less expensive than the old one.
As to working with difficult lighting conditions, I still prefer shooting RAW. For example, I often shoot live theatre where it is difficult to balance the shadow detail with the lead performing in a bright followspot. I have often been able to recover blown highlights in a RAW image that would not have been recoverable in a jpg. Again, it is better to correctly expose an image and have no need to recover it, and a properly exposed jpg file is perfectly acceptable, but there are lighting conditions where the dynamic range exceeds that of a jpg. The camera can do a fair amount of recovery when it creates a jpg, but with the RAW file & a fair amount of experience you can often improve on the in camera jpg because you know better than the camera what parts of the image are important.
Again, I'd certainly start out with jpg formats since RAW requires quite a bit of post processing that for the average user the camera will do better, but if the lighting conditions are difficult you might try RAW.
Maybe the best solution is to shoot RAW with jpg if that is an option for your camera. You end up with 2 files, one RAW & one jpg. The advantage is you can work with the post processing software on the RAW file & determine whether you can do better that the camera processing. Again, this can be useful under difficult lighting conditions since as your processing skills improve you can go back to images and possibly improve on the jpg using the RAW file of the same image.

RE: Suggestions for compact camera

A useful web site to check out what is available is dpreview. They include customer reviews & ratings, a "Compare" section and a "Camera Feature Search" section, all under the Camera menu. A great way to help you decide what meets your needs.

RE: Nikon or Canon? I bought the....

If you are interested in some information on lenses, techniques, filters, etc, I did a series of posts at the RV Blog on photography. Since I haven't posted in awhile, they are buried, but a search on "vermilye & a photography term" or scroll through the photography section at the RV.Net Blog will find some of the topics.

RE: Nikon or Canon? I bought the....

Thank you for supporting your local camera dealer. I've had a great relationship with mine, and they will almost always meet or even beat the big box stores. Another advantage is a good dealer can often come up with a camera or lens that is out of stock everywhere.

RE: 12 day trip to explore Utah's Scenic Highway 12 and parks

A couple of area state parks worth visiting are Kodachrome Basin & Goblin Valley. Both have dry camping with restrooms, showers, & dump stations. - Kodachrome has 4 full hookup sites. Both have interesting scenery!
I spent some time in the area in late May & early June without reservations & didn't have problems other than not finding a space at Fruita Campground at Capital Reefs...

RE: Back Up Camera?

While I understand wanting a wireless version, I have never had luck with them even with my 17' trailer. I went to Rear View Safety for a 2 camera system, one for the tow vehicle & one for the trailer. They have a connection kit to go between the trailer & the tow.
