RE: Feel stupid...

It all depends on where the camper harness's power lead is hooked up.
If it is hooked directly to the truck's battery,
then yes, the camper will draw off of the truck battery also.
(potentially killing the truck battery)
If the camper's harness is hooked up to the trucks alternator output, or through a battery isolator, or a full service solenoid,
then No,
it will not draw off of, (or kill), the truck battery.

Tips for selling on Craigslist.

Disclaimer-
I wrote this as a responce to a thread that is now closed.
I hope I am not breaking any rules here, and if I am, then please feel free to delete this thread.
I am only trying to offer up some experienced advise and tips, that may help members here, to avoid the frustrations of selling their items, and filtering out the scammers, bottom-feeders,and lowballers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I buy and sell a lot of things through Craigslist with good success.
The trick is, to understand that CL is "self monitored", without any paid moderators, or administrators. (that's why it's free).
That's ALSO WHY, the scammers love to "phish" for vulnerable sellers.
I've learned that the details I put INTO the ad,...
and the WAY I put them into the ad,...
Will determine what kind of responses I get.
When putting in the ad, do not use the CL "secured email function".
Instead, put your email into the body of the ad,... BUT, put in some spaces or extra characters.
Then below the ad,
You write a sentence saying to remove the x's, or make whatever corrections to the email addy.
What this does is, it makes it so that the automated web crawlers and spyware, that the scammers often use, can not "Read" your actual email addy.
It requires that an actual Human Being, with some average intelligence, needs to READ THE AD, and reply accordingly.
Example,...
--------------------------------------------------
If you are interested in looking at this item for sale, reply to:
tri-5-ronxx (at) g m a i l (dot) com
NOTE- FOR THE ABOVE EMAIL ADDRESS, YOU MUST REMOVE the x's, spaces, and use the correct "@" and "." symbols
----------------------------------------------------
What this does, is insures a living, breathing human being must READ the ad, and comprehend what it says for instructions.
Not some automated spyware/web-crawler, that is programmed to pick up on a standard email addy (or phone number)format... and in turn send you a pre written **Reply**.
ALSO,...
you can put in your phone number into the body of the ad,
BUT,
break it up with both numbers and letters, (spelling out the number).
example,
323-seven 6 five- 9 two 3 3.
again, this requires that someone of at least average intelligence would need to put forth a minimal amount of brain power, to reply to your ad.
Another thing to be aware of, is that selling anything on CL requires YOU to be realistic in your details, description, and asking price.
You must look at the other similar items listed for sale. Get a feel for what is out there, and what you are "competing" with.
Think of it from the potential BUYERS point of view.
What is the range of available units, and their comparative asking prices.
That's what you are competing with.
Of course, you must also set your price in a realistic range.
Not what "Kelly Blue Book" says it's worth,
Not what you THINK it's worth,
Not what you'd LIKE it to sell for,
but rather, what could you really BUY one for,... if you yourself were looking to purchase a similar USED item.
you must come to terms with yourself on,
"What is really Really REALLY the lowest price I am willing to take".
(this is probably the hardest thing for most people to accept and do).
Sure, we all want to...
"Get as much as I can for it".
But at the same time, the buyers are thinking...
"I want it as cheaply as possible"
Don't go into it thinking you'd be happy with $5000 for it, so you set the price 30% higher at $7500, to give them a feeling of negotiating room.
That only runs off potential buyers, who are looking in the "$4500 to $5500 price range".
That's the way to play the CL game,
and played correctly,
it works to your advantage.
hope this helps, and good luck on selling your items.

RE: LED light questions

Hi,
I'd use Ebay myself. I'm having good luck with units from this supplier. low cost led
They sell leds with other "base" configurations as well.
I just converted both of my TC's over to LED using Ebay suppliers.
I will say, the ones that Pianotuna posted are SERIOUSLY Bright !
(actually TOO bright for interior lights, IMO)
(I have the 36 smd type)
But,..
They work GREAT on my exterior "patio side lights", and rear entry light.
I now am using these for the interior...
and I find them to be more comfortable than the other type.

old fridge parts supplier ?

Hi all,
Does any one know where I could get a replacement door latch for my old Dometic RM2501 Fridge ? Do they even make parts for a 24yo fridge?
The latch is a plastic "Flipper" at the top corner of the door.
I could post a pic if necessary.
Or,..
might it be possible to mount a later model type of door latch?
I've done a ebay search, and also googled it, but cant find what I need.
any ideas ?
(other than nailing a 2x4, or bolting a gate latch to it ;-) )

RE: picked up another one

Coming back to answer a couple of questions you guys had asked.
The Motion sensor light was purchased at my local Costco a few months ago. I have gone back looking to buy another pair, but they did not have any more when I went there. hopefully I can find them again. it was very nice to be able to open the camper door at night, and have the light come on before entering the camper.
not sure on the model of the furnace, but will check. I hope it is one of the smaller power miser models.
I took the little camper out for a daddy/daughter atv riding weekend. Had a great time, and happy with the little rig, but it is definitely a 2 person only rig. with the dual batteries, and led lighting, I had now power issues at all. Yea !
I'll be converting all the lights to SMD/LED's now.
Here's a pic of the exterior side lights. The left is a 36 SMD panel purchased on ebay. the right is the standard 1156 incandescent bulb.
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/1988%20Lance%20Camper/IMG_5116.jpg
I have also converted the florescent fixture over the dinette, as well as the hood light over the oven, with some SMD strip lights purchased from PepBoys. Forgot to take a pic of those last night, but will try to remember tonight.
here's a couple of pics from our weekend...

RE: picked up another one

Nice find! Mine is a 2000 and doesn't look like that dude.
Yours is clean as a pen inside and out. Have fun with your daughter on all your adventures!
Haha, THANKS !
Yeah, I got pretty lucky on this one. Guess I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Found it about 8am on a Sunday morning on Craigs list. The ad was about 30 minutes old. The main reason I even called on it was because it already had the swing-out brackets for the Dually, and it was only about 10 blocks from my house.
I called the guy, went and looked at it, and bought it.
Oh,.... did I forget to mention that it came with both propane tanks full, 2 extra jacks, and he even delivered it ??? ROTFL !!
now with the Pex replumbing job, and both brand new batteries,
I'm into it for about $825 cash, and some elbow grease on my part.
Smokin' good deal.

RE: picked up another one

Was there any particular reason you didn't go with Group 31s?
yeah, price.
I don't know if the dimensions of the group 31, is the same as the group 27's, but the 27 was as big as would fit in the battery box.
(only had 1/4" clearance getting it in).
Plus, I've got a great local source of wholesale batteries, and the brand spankin' new group 27 deep cycles's cost me $68 ea. out the door.

Well, It's taken me a little while to get back here and add some pics, but the PEX re-plumbing job went well and is now complete.

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/1988%20Lance%20Camper/IMG_4998.jpg
I've spent quite a few hours deep cleaning, and applying a treatment of TR3, (it's a Resin Glaze, and MUCH better than waxing).
I think it's looking pretty good for being 24 years old !
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/1988%20Lance%20Camper/IMG_5071.jpg
I've also installed a couple of Motion sensor, SMD, AA battery powered lights.
These light up when you open the camper door, or get out of bed at night, and will make it nice to be able to see, without using any of my house battery power.
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/1988%20Lance%20Camper/IMG_5062.jpg
OK, next question....
This Camper only has a single "House Battery". I have purchased a new Group 27 Deep Cycle, and installed it in the box.
I was concerned that without a generator, I may be fairly low on power capacity, for 4 nights of using the furnace this weekend.
(yes, I plan on keeping the thermostat pretty low, maybe 58 or so).
I went ahead and bought a second Group 27, and it fits nicely in the wheel well.
I am going to parallel it to the first battery, making my own jumper leads.
Would 10 ga. wire be OK for this ? (I have some in the garage)
or should it be larger ? (I do also have some big 4 ga., but that stuff is going to be a bit harder to fish through the box, and cabinet).

RE: How to load a Truck Camper video

And here I thought I had it so hard!Hahahahaha !!!
come on up to OC, and I'll let you give it a try with my 11 1/2'er, and a Dually.
3/4" on either side, (jacks to dually fenders),and must be straight from at least 6' out." I've've got A TOTAL of 3/4" to set it right.
a pop-up on a swd would be a breeze !

RE: picked up another one

Ok, next question...
I did not want to spend $53, for a 100' roll of blue, and another of red tubing.
I bought a single 50' roll of white Pex tubing, ($14).
Now I notice it says "Non-Oxygen Barrier Tubing".
Is this ok to use in my application ?
for both the hot and cold tubing runs?
When do you NEED to use tubing that is "Oxygen Barrier" type ?

RE: picked up another one

Well it looks like the Pex has won out, and I will be replacing the complete system tomorrow.
Although I would have liked to do the Sharkbite fittings, ...
when I got to Home Depot and saw the prices, I just about fell over ! $10.54 for a single 1/2" tee,... and I need 8 of them!, that's not even counting the elbows, or faucet connections.
SOoooo,... even though the crimp tool was an extra $58, I decided to go with the Pex brass fittings, and copper crimping rings.
(at least now, I'll have the tool for future projects).
I'm even considering adding an exterior spigot to the underside of the camper wing, just because I can !

RE: picked up another one

here's some pics of the original tubing that is giving me such a hard time. I was hoping to avoid replumbing the entire system, but it now would seem to be the best choice. (thanks Joe)
If you look behind the black sink drain, you can see a peice of the vinyl tubing I used for the first attempt at repairing the original leak I had found.
This is the stuff I was asking about.
It is pretty thick walled, 3/4 o.d x 1/2 i.d.
