RE: Casinos around the country????

Not free here. Some casinos might even be dry.

RE: 230 yr. old. Champagne found ! Would you drink or sell?

The value of a rare wine that old is in the rarity, not the quality. Once opened, it is worth nothing, and is likely to be disappointing, if even drinkable.

RE: Quit Smoking Yesterday!

Good Luck! I quit maybe 20 times. Got to a couple days some times, even up to 5 years once. I'm at 28 years on the current quit, but I know I could start again. My experience trying, quitting smoking works a lot better if you give up the connected activities, like drinking (including coffee in my case) and hanging out where other people smoke, and substitute alternative activities (like running).

RE: 1995 Dodge Dakota

If your transfer has a 4-low it should have a neutral on the switch, and the answer would be yes, you tow 4x4 in neutral. Some Sport or SXT 4x4 models had a TC with 2wd and 4wd high only. This one has no neutral. You might check with a transmission shop about the towability of that particular 5-speed manual transmission. I know about the Ford-Mazda M5OD and Nissan Frontier (Yes) and the Toyota Tacoma and GM S-10/S-15 (No). I don't know about the Dakota, don't know whose transmission they were using.

RE: 2003 Ford Ranger 4 x 4 auto with 4.0 engine

AFAIK, the Ranger did not have the re-programmable transfer case before the 2006 model year. You will be needing a driveshaft disconnect for a 2003 automatic. Researched this extensively when looking for a towable Range in 2005.

RE: Blue Ox push pin failure

I use locking pins for that connection. Some things done for convenience or ease of use become simply too easy to be safe.

RE: anti sway bar with tow dolly

I don't think you can use a typical friction anti-sway bar with surge brakes, most reach further back onto the trailer tongue than the working section of the brake actuator.

RE: Storage

I have two outside bins with access to a "basement" storage section about 8" high running from one side of the frame to the other. Front compartment is open to one bin (genset is on the opposite side); rear compartment is open to bins on both sides. These compartments work for flat stuff, like my folding table, lawn chairs, long-handled window washer, brooms, etc. You may have a similar space, that you have not yet noticed.

RE: New Mexico in August , Sept or October?

We went on the "Billy the Kid Trail" (Fort Sumner to Deming area) in mid-October, the weather was perfect for outdoor activities. Any earlier might have been too hot. Up in the mountains and high plateau of northern New Mexico, we have found it more to our liking a bit earlier, mid-September to early October. In mid-October, northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, we've sometimes found ourselves in early winter storms.

RE: Can your RV be plugged in while running the generator

Mine can't. I have to unplug from the post, plug into the genset.

RE: Ya can't fix stupid

She is alive to talk about it, maybe she has learned to respect an animal's space. In their defense, urban folks are often ignorant of animal behavior, but Yellowstone does have signs. All large herbivores are dangerous, especially herd animals when alone. In the herd they may just watch you, unless defending the herd. People who didn't know what they were doing have been killed by frightened sheep moving in a mass.

RE: trip planning

I have to figure 50 mph average in the motorhome, unless I stay on Interstates, where I might reach 55 mph average on a very long day. My days run 100 to 500 miles, depending on what I am trying to accomplish, and who is traveling with me (grandkids need a lot more time outside the coach). That's not counting the zero mileage days, which can be the bulk of a destination trip. I'm on the sixth day of a 3-4 week trip, and the RV hasn't moved for three days, will not move for two more.

RE: Towing in overdrive

For a 2002 F-250 with 7.3: YES - NO - YES. Ford says to tow in overdrive, unless it "hunts" for a gear. Lock out OD for engine breaking. This answer is different for other brands, other vehicles. Tow-Haul on a Ford is a change in the transmission control program, not an OD lockout. It also handles TC locking and downshifting for the purposes of engine breaking. This answer is different for other brands, other vehicles. Running cruise won't damage anything, but it does not anticipate traffic and road conditions like a good driver will, and for many people cruise leads them into bad driving practices, like weaving through traffic to hold a constant speed, or getting into the passing lane then taking 3-5 miles to pass.

RE: Floor Plan Choices

This is what works for two of us, somewhat adaptable to having kids and grandkids along. For a different situation, something else may work better. 1. Living area is separated from the main sleeping area (this usually puts the kitchen, maybe the bath, in the middle. Fairly common in larger RVs, harder to find in small ones. 2. The living area puts some people where they can watch TV, others where they can ignore it, and allows larger groups to be face to face for conversation. If I were using the RV alone, I would have different floorplan preferences. If I were using it regularly in family mode, I would have different preferences.

RE: Who's looking over my shoulder??

Just be happy that CARB has not yet gotten what they wanted from the technology, i.e. telemetry to roadside receivers.

RE: Grand Circle Tour

I think late September to mid-October. By that time of year, traffic in the parks whittles down to us old folks and a few thousand RV tourists from Europe. The weather in the high desert is much more pleasant then, compared to the heat of summer. Although, I've been out there in October some years still facing 100 F or higher.

RE: BoonDocking Oklahoma/Tx

There is at least one OHV trail area in the Sam Houston forest, and dispersed camping separate from the off-road play. There is dispersed camping in the Davy Crockett and Sabine forests. Ouchita National Forest (mostly in Arkansas) is still working on their travel management policy, and allows some off-trail play. Other than the state parks, public forests, and wilderness areas, there is very little in the way of public lands in east Texas or eastern Oklahoma. 4x4 play is pretty much limited to a few forest areas, and with demand greatly exceeding supply, you will not likely be away from the crowds.

RE: Changing your own oil (Ford F-53 / V-10)

The oil change tech in the Quick Lane at my local Ford dealer complains about that too. He hates it when a Ford A-gasser comes in. You need a really big catch pan, and for sure you are going to get oil on you.

RE: Nonstop Generator Use

I don't know about stopping it for a rest, but I will stop my gas-powered genset daily to check oil level, and as often as needed for oil changes according to the maintenance schedule.

RE: Leveling questions PLEASE!

For leveling, I use a combination of 3/4" exterior plywood boards and plastic stacking blocks (1-1/2" first block, 1" each additional block) under the tires. How I use them, I put them ahead of the tire that needs to be higher and drive up on them, same way blocks are used to level trailers. How many? As many as needed to get level. This is often zero, because most pads where I park are pretty close to level, and I can often get level by moving around a little bit. I don't try to stabilize my C. C's are pretty heavy, relative to the weight of people moving around inside them. People who find the amount of movement uncomfortable will install stabilizing jacks, similar to those on many trailers, but built more heavily.
