RE: Making offer on a 2011

We offered 30% off when we purchased our 2009 Fleetwood and that was what we made the deal for. The only difference is that we were shopping the last weekend in November. I would suggest go with the 30% off offer. Bet you make a deal.

RE: Deployment = Lonely TT

Thank you to you both for the sacrifices you both make for his service. My SIL has served overseas on year long deployment, it sure was difficult for my daughter. I think it would be awesome for you to try a short distance camp-out with the trailer...close to home. I took our motorhome out for the first time last summer all by myself and it built my confidence tremendously! I am sure someone can give you step-by-step hook up directions if you don't already know how. You would lose too much to sell it so quickly after buying last fall. If you are going to leave it in storage-just go give it a walk around every month.

RE: Retirement

Congratulations on your retirement! DH retires Dec. 1 and he is sooo ready! His brother was in the nuclear subs also years ago. He served on the Tecumseh.

So, giving some thought to...

if gas prices escalate as they are predicting and we are already beginning to experience, and, that it is bound to cause a dip (again) in new coach sales. Whether this might be a good time to trade-in our Class C on a new Class A in the next several months. We have been planning to change to a Class A sometime in the next 1-2 years. Now we are kicking around the idea that this summer/fall may be a very good opportunity for some great savings if rising gas prices stimulate manufacturer and dealer incentives.

RE: Would $5 crush a lot of the RV industry?

I'm sorry, but $5 per gallon for gas will definitely affect how often and how long a trip we take in this household. If it stays that high, yes, I will get used to it....but we will still take fewer and/or shorter trips. As we enter into retirement now in a few more months, our income will decrease. There is no way around it. RVing is something we love to do, and had hoped all our lives to be able to do a great deal of it once we were able to retire. Now though, we will be picking and choosing our trips. $5 per gallon will impact our travelling. Getting 'used' to the price of fuel will not change the fact it makes RV travel very expensive.

RE: 2012 Bounder 35K Sofa

We have been looking at this same coach--probably the one we will go with because I love the 'livingroom' configuration. Yes, it does work oddly. We tried out and opened up the coach at the RV Show we attended. Decided we would probably end up buying an air mattress to make it more workable and comfortable. We'll have to keep tabs. I'm truly interested in how you are enjoying your new coach, and what you are finding are good points and those that may not be so good. In the mean time....Congrats on your choice!!!!

RE: Revenge of the Squirrel

It is truly amazing what those critters can do! I worked as a service writer in a GM dealership for seven years. Had a customer's car towed in one morning because it wouldn't start. Little varmits did a TON of damage. When I called her and explained the problem and what caused it, she didn't believe me and came to look for herself. She said she couldn't believe it, she drove the car 6 days/week to work and back and it was 65 miles each way. I told her she had a stowaway on many of those trips!! Looked very similar to your damage!!!

RE: backing up, gonna lose my man card here....

It's probably just a question of experience. Anybody makes any comments, and you ought to just look at them and say, "And you've got to watch her clean a fish" !!! They'll all be jealous!!

RE: Anyone drive to the porcupine mountains in UP

We were there last summer with our 32 ft motorhome. V10 gas motor. Absolutely no elevation or grade issues at all. We drove to all the spots and had no problem with parking or manuvering our coach.

RE: Custom made spice racks

Very clever!! I like it. I don't take a ton of spices so that works for me. One thing I have done is to have our neighbor's daughter save me a bunch of baby food containers. These days they come in a little plastic tub with a snap on lid. I have found them excellent for putting baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, etc in. I don't need to take a whole container of those items that come in larger sizes and I can leave them in the coach the whole camping season.

RE: Best Canned Cream of Mushroom Soup?

I am really enjoying Campbell's Mushroom soup that comes in a squat tub with a pull tab top. It is ready-to-eat, not condensed and it is fairly pricey, but absolutely outstanding! I just discovered this on the top shelf of the soup aisle a few weeks ago and really like it.

That is a well thought out and executed installation plan. Top drawer all the way. Excellent pics too. Would love to see it when all the trim is completed too! Thanks for sharing Mike!

RE: What do you use to brush your dog.

I use the Furminator with great success with my chocolate lab. Best thing going for his short hair coat. I really do not think it would work well with your dogs coat/hair type. I would think the regular slicker-type brush and a metal comb would be your best bet, and frequent brushings too.

RE: City rules about overnighting...not happy

From what I understand, many of the communities are approached by nearby campgrounds to put these ordinances on the books. If there is no opposition it becomes law. Unfortunately, places like Walmart don't follow what is going on with city commission meetings or the townships and these ordinances are quietly sliding in place.

RE: Baby it's cold outside and wet inside.

Definitely a dehumidifier or even two to get the moisture out. Then one to maintain. Does it have dual pane windows? Use towels at the base of the windows to wick away the condensation as it forms. There will be responses from those that have first hand experience with this sort of issue. Also try doing a search on this site for "moisture" and "condensation".

RE: Nook-Kindle

If an e-reader is something you desire, just go to Walmart and buy one while they are running a deal. I think the reason they have them on special is because they bought huge volumes (as Walmart so often does) prior to Christmas expecting to sell a gazillon and make a fortune off them. Problem was, now everybody is selling them, like Target, etc. and they didn't sell as many as they hoped. Now they are hung with truckloads. I bought the original Kindle 1 when they first came out and it still works like the day I bought it-fantastic. No need to upgrade everytime a new one comes out. They all read books wonderfully! Mine goes with me everywhere.

RE: driving in and around Atlanta

Avoid typical rush hours times as much as you can for obvious reasons. You do not want to attempt driving around Atlanta itself in any kind of RV. Other then that, it's big city traffic at it's best.
