RE: Driving in Big Cities

Actually driving at rush hour is sometimes easier because the traffic is at snails pace. Thirty some years driving Chicago xways daily gives some perspective stay in the middle lane and move with traffic and/or the speed limit, or stay in the right hand and go slow and deal with entrance and exit traffic. I prefer the middle lane and being part of the flow. I do however take a bypass or relief Rt if one is available.

RE: Full time 5th wheel...extra car?

We find it convenient to have two vehicles DW follows me in a Focus. She is my tail gunner when I turn on a blinker she'll make the lane change and give me clearance. We communicate via family radios. We figure the 30+ MPG's are better than the low teens of the DRW tow vehicle and much easier to manage in city traffic.

RE: RV Extension Cord

We carry a 30 ft 30amp cord an extra water hose and 15ft extra sewer hose and have needed all at one time or another. Just used the 30amp the other day for a overnight and didn't want to unhitch. Truck would have been overhanging the drive 3 ft.

RE: Getting ready to go full time!!! Where to winter?

Stayed at KM Resort's: Travel Inn RV Resort in Elma, WA this past winter. We had only 1 snow storm all winter and it was on Jan 17th. It was about 8 inches and the snow lasted less than a week.
No snow is good snow!

RE: Splendide W/D

Due to DW's back ours is mounted 20 inches off the floor and you only notice a bad shake if the load is unbalanced. Most of the time I don't even know she is doing laundry.

RE: Portable Propane Tank

We use a #20 tank refill twice a year, we grill a lot. Also carry a one pound can for on the road don't need to hook up for a overnight. When the #20 gets old we just trade it in for a newer full one at a big box store.

RE: Down Payment on New Motor Home

If you have not sold the house, then it seems to me that you have not lost anything, although it might look like it on paper. Actually, you may be better off, since the taxes on the house should be less so you have more money in you pocket. The only time the downturn would cause you to lose money would be if you actually sold the house. That's the way I look at it.
As far as financing an RV, I would advise to put enough down so as not to be upside down at any time.
Barney
The assessment goes down but the rate goes up, government only knows how to spend our money.

RE: How long do you leave waste?

Put some extra water (at lest 4-5 gals)in the tank along with an enzyme BW treatment and you are good for at least a month, assuming your tank does not have any problems.

RE: HELP I think our refrigerator just took a dump

I'm presently replacing our cooling unit in a Dometic 2862 with a new Amish unit.
It's a job but better than paying for service or a new unit!!!

RE: What are our chances?????????????

It's not too early to begin researching possible volunteer positions. We plan a year ahead. We're presently have three volunteer positions lined up through May 2013 and are investigating volunteer openings at places we would like to explore summer 2013.
A good site to see what maybe available http://www.volunteer.gov/gov/

RE: When do you decide to level left to right??

These are what we use, level your trailer with a torpedo or masons level when you have it where your comfortable apply these: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/rv-levels-set-of-2/47550 where your front jack controls are one on the front and one on the side.
I spot the trailer where needed for utilities and slides. Then check the level on front for side to side. After a few times you'll know how many boards or blocks you'll need to level. Drop the board along the tires, pull up till I'm slightly past the front edge DW moves them over inline with the tires and I backup on them. Recheck level, if good and it usually is, next check how much front needs then drop the front stabilizers.
