RE: new fifth wheel purchase

I would look at the KZ Stoneridge line...also an upper level unit and IMHO built better then Forest River products and backed much better. KZ is a family owned business and offer a 2 year warranty. I have had a major problem with my Durango and it was repaired out of warranty at no cost to me. Since FR was purchased by Buffetts Birkshire Hathaway their customer support and service as well as QC have gone down as experianced by friends that have recently bought them. Brookstones are a beautiful unit but IMHO do not warrant the price for the quality.

RE: 2005 Ford V - 10

The v-10 is a workhorse. The blowing of plugs was mainly caused by the use of antiseeze compounds and improper torque when changing plugs. I have the original 2000 model and no problems except for broken exhaust manifols bolts...aproblem on early california emissons on the right side. No it is not a diesel but then again you are not paying the higher price either. If you like it don't hesitate because of the motor....with the higher purchase price and fuel coats you have a lot of traveling to do to break even with the diesel. JMHO....oh and you will have less nose and smell too

RE: Seasonal Site..Leave the fridge on or turn it off each time?

Leave it on. As a KZ owner you have a Norcold refer....as such the auto is electric to gas....leave it on AC when away then if you lose power it will switch to gas and back when power is restored. I have always left my refer on all season even when parked at home. FYI it takes much less energy to keep it cool then to cool down....for every min the door is open it takes almost 2 hours to recover.( per the factory)

RE: Flooded our KZ spree TT please help!!

File a claim with your insurance company and have them inspect it at the dealer so he can explain how there will be future problems with delamination. The floors in KZ units are almost totally coveren with the vinyl even under the carpet so the plywood was protected well but the underbelly needs to be stripped and dried out....however the walls are a different story. I would be amazed if delam did not occur in the next 6 months as the water expands during the hot summer months

RE: Seasonal Sewer Connect

Less chance of a spill and all in all cleaner. I leave the grey open and dump as needed....never have to touch anything buy the valve handle. The connection from the camper to the 3" pvc is done using a valtera twist lock by male hose adapter connecting to the pvc with a 3by 4 fernco fitting. We also install a 3 by 3 by 1.5 sanitary tee with a 1.5 inch vac vent like under the sinks to avoid a backup. Works great

I have a 2000 and tow a 35' Durango TT....no need to touch the suspension at all it tows great. Some just like to buy into the need to mod. All F series require ball joints at about 80K and steering stabilizers. Other then that just enjoy

RE: rubber roof

If you don't want black streaks keep the gutters clean and have drain spouts....AGAIN the membrane is designed to have that "sluff" left alone NOT removed. HOWEVER...if you have a TPO roof washing is fine as it does not sluff off since it is vinyl

RE: Mouse/Mice proofing

The ONLY thing that works is sealing the unit so well they can not get in. My neighbor at our seasional site does mint oils...moth balls...dryer sheets...poison...etc and gets them every year. They even took the poison and moved the pellets into the dinette for storage as food and built a nest in an unopened box of Downey dryer sheets. This year they did enough damage to warrant an insurance claim. I sealed mine well with sparay foam and never got another mouse. You need to seal under the sinks...shower or tub...where the converter is located...everywhere. I used 4 cans to be sure it is well sealed. Another area that is forgotten if you have a heated basement. The heat enters the basement from a 2 or 3 inch hole drilled through the ductork into the basement....this allows east access from the unsealed basement into the ducts and into the unit....like a mouse highway. I chose to seal the hole rather then have the mice in the ductwork resulting in a lot of cleaning each year to remove the feces and urine left behind. If you dont want to do that you can cover the vents with scap wood and weight down so they cant squeeze through.

RE: CAMPGROUNDS WITH SEASONAL SITES

Homer...as I stated...in this economy to stay in business you need seasionals. If it were not for us seasionals our park would have closed a year after the current owners bought it. Like it or not it has gotten too expensive for many to travel. Example...we trave once or twice a year and seasional the rest. A trip to one of our favorite campgrounds for years, only 3 hours from home, for 1 week this year will cost 25% of what my 6 month seasional costs us.

RE: rubber roof

Yes its ok as others have said...HOWEVER do not wash the roof or waste money on "treatments". The membrane is designes to be left alone and will actually last longer if you do not wash or treat it. The EPDM material was designed to be used on commercial flat roofs. Ever seen one of those washed??? Most of the so called treatments have petro chemicals in them....something the roffing manufacturer say NOT to expose it to.

RE: Suburban water heater Pressure Relief Valve replacement

They all have the air space...it works like an expansion tank. The air is absorbed over time from normal use and is the cause of leaking relief valves 99% of the time. If you do need to replace it you can also use a pair of channel lock pliers to break it loose

RE: CAMPGROUNDS WITH SEASONAL SITES

We seasional and travel around...one reason seasionals often don't like the travelers is because in the last few years it seems more and more weekenders want to be catered to...don't care to be curteous...don't watch their kids and lack respect for the campgroung and their fellow campers. We as seasionals in our park generally go out of our way to be friendly to everyone. As for there being seasional sites...a campground can not exist on weekenders alone anymore you need the seasionals to keep the doors open unless you are in a tourist actraction area. Last year there was 1 seasonal moterhome in our park...this year there are 5...the cost of fuel drove them to being seasonal.

RE: Suburban Water Heater Clicking w/fireball from exhaust???

Suburban water heaters with DSI do this because of a poor ground electrical path. To permanantly fix the problem a ground wire needs to be added from the screw that mounts the ignition/flame detector unit (the one in the burner tube) to the ground wire on the solenoid. Remove the screws...clean...and reinstall with the added wire and problem solved. All suburbans uwith dsi no matter their size use the exact same equipment with 12K BTU output so it works on them all. Another problem that occurs is the unit will light and continue to spark for a few seconds and then shut off. This is caused by another poor ground at the main ground mounting location. Open the outside door and look in the upper right hand corner...you will see 2 1/4" hex head screws. Loosen them up and retighten and problem solved. These screws hold the ground connection on the inside.

RE: wall-mart synthetic oil

Walmart "synthetic" is as good as any other...but keep in mind it as well as most other s"synthetic" are all derived from standard oil. Its a complicated mess but its legal. To find the only "true" synthetic motoroils visit the Corvette website for a list of their approved oils...must be true synthetic. There are even multiple Mobil1 synthetics and only the one listed by GM is a true synthetic.
