RE: How would you handle this?

Just got a call from the boss today, it looks like we will be doing his route until further notice. He said he could not go into any detal, but be prepared to run his route for "the long haul". I asked him had they considered hiring a temporary guy to cover and he said they are looking into it, but again he wouldnt give me any details. I'm off until Monday so I guess I will see what happens between now and then.
What do you make of that?

RE: Shopping for a new car I like . I can't find one.

I'm with you on this one. I havent seen one yet that rings my bell. I remember years ago I could identify a car coming down the road with make, model, and year and could tell you if it had a V6 or a V8. Nowadays they all look the same to me. BORING.

RE: How would you handle this?

Thanks for the replies and the advice. I have deleted him from my FaceBook Page and cut my ties. If he calls me I will be polite and answer any questions he might have that are job related but I will not feed him any information. I do not plan to call him. Our work order system is computer generated and my branches can fill out a complaint form online, if someone complains to me again I will listen and point them in the direction of the online system. Several of the people at his sites have asked me to take those locations over, but I have a full plate already and dont need more sites.
Thanks again

How would you handle this?

Ok, so in my job I have 34 locations that I am responsible for. My duties include HVAC, electrical, lighting, plumbing, carpentry, and all forms of maintenance. I am required to be at each location once a month to do a "PM" or preventave maintenance work order. While I'm there I change air filters, repair lights, check the landscaping, check the cleaning, and do any type of maintenance work that they need. (Squeaky desk drawers, broken door knobs, etc. Basically anything that is broke, I fix it.)
There are 80 of us "Service engineers" that cover most of the east coast, so if a guy is out we cover for him and run his route or do his emergency work orders. We all look out for each other and try to help each other as much as we can. For example, if a Window unit needs to be changed out I can call one of my neighboring techs and he will come up to help.
Ok, so about a year and a half ago one of our guys had a heat stroke and basically retired. He was of retirement age and I was happy that he was able to retire. He was a really good guy, and a really good tech, and while he was out sick two of us ran his route for a couple of months until they could hire someone to take his spot.
Well they hired a guy, trained him, put him in a van and cut him loose. After about 3 months he started getting behind and couldnt keep up. We helped when he needed it and kept his job caught up. Then, he claimed he hurt his back and went out on medical leave. So again we split his route up between three guys and covered his area until he came back. Well, what we found was bad. We are required to date and inital air filters when we change them, and I found filters in units that hadnt been changed in a year, since the last time I changed them because they had my name and date on them! Lights out everywhere, landscaping was bad, cleaning was bad, it was all going downhill fast. I had no choice and had to report him to our supervisor. There were many many complaints from each site, and from other employees so it wasnt just me. He made excuses at some of the branches of why he couldnt do jobs and left things broken. He would say he was in a hurry to get to another job and had to go. Maybe that was the truth, I dont know. And I should point out that I'm no doctor so I dont know if his back is out or not. But our job requires us to be on ladders, in attics, on roofs, bend, stoop, climb, so if he has a bad back I can see where it would be difficult for him to do his job.
Ok, all that to say this......he is out again, and again we are covering his route. My company says I am not to have contact with him (none of us are) and his case is being handled through HR. But he is one of my friends on FaceBook and several of the other Techs are as well. Some of the guys are beating him up pretty bad on FaceBook, and are really giving him a hard time. After several months of doing his job I can relate. He posted pictures on FaceBook of him working in the garden and planting vegies and of him out on the boat fishing.
My buddy at work hates his guts and is sick and tired of doing his job while he is at home working in the garden. I have to admit I have some resentment myself, when I walk in one of the sites and the air filters havent been changed in a year and the unit is so stopped up it cant blow air.
Is it fair to us to have to do his job? Is it fair to him for the guys to give him all this "tough love" on Facebook and bust his chops? What would you do?

RE: The company is getting me a new van

southern, I can see your point and I'm glad to listen to your vent....b-bu-but...you have a free car, gas paid, make the best of it lol!!!
You are right, and I will make the best of it. I always do. And I am truly thankful for my job. I have a great job and I love it, but as with any job there is always the few that want to screw it up.
I emailed my boss and he pretty much told me that I'm stuck with the new one.
Its still a hard pill to swallow, and it will take me some time to figure out what I have to keep and what I have to run back and forth to the store to get.
Not to mention all the ribbing i'm gonna get from the other guys :B

The company is getting me a new van

And I already hate it. I currently have a Heavy Duty Chevy 2500 van that just clicked 200,000 miles. Evidently, 200k is the magic number for some idiot in upper management to decide that I need a new one. We are a full service company that does HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, lighting, general repair, just about anything thats needed for a building to operate. I currently have a 24' extension ladder, a 12', 8', and 6' ladder, at least 25 different kinds of light bulbs, HVAC repair parts, caulk, paint, R-22 refrigerant, R-410a Refrigerant, Nitrogen, torches, nuts, bolts, wire nuts, etc.etc etc. In other words, its heavy. But, I keep it serviced and clean and it has had very little done to it in the way of repairs.
They are giving me a FORD TRANSIT little minivan looking thing that looks like a skateboard with a box on it. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
I'm so aggrivated I could spit nails. They say its better on gas, blah blah blah whatever. Is it so much better on gas that it covers the three or four trips a day that I'll be making to the parts house to get what I need because I dont have room to haul it all at one time? I'm not even sure that it will haul half of what I have now, much less a couple of boxes of 30x30x2 air filters for one of the 50 ton HVAC units I have to maintain.
Im sure its a great little grocery getter, prolly nice to drive to the beach for the day. But come on guys! Give me something I can WORK WITH!!!!!!
Ok..rant over.
Thanks for letting me vent.

RE: Will you RV with $8 a gallon gas?

Yall are worried about nothing. In 20 years there will be so many electric cars on the road that gas will be back to 50 cents a gallon because nobody will want it. Hang on to that old gas burner that gets 7 miles to the gallon. People will look at you funny then, cause you will be poluting the environment with all the fumes, but who cares? :B

RE: Best lake to retire on

Thanks to you all. I really liked Santee Cooper. The water is beautiful from the pictures we looked at. You can also get a lot of home for your money.
Thanks again!
One of the nice thing about North or South Carolina is the weather. We usually have very mild winters compared to most of the country. Our big Snow is mostly less than a foot unless you get into the mountains. Our summers can get hot, but its not unbearable.
The other great thing about the Carolinas is we have mountains and beaches all in one state. Property taxes are lower than up north IMHO and well....you just cant beat the people.
Yeah I know...I have a biased opinion, but I'm proud to be from the Carolinas. And I know for a fact if you do decide to move here, you will too. :B
* Yes, most of the eastern parts of our lakes and rivers do have alligators as well as the swamps. I have never heard of anyone who got eaten by one though, although I'm sure some folks have lost a dog or two.*

RE: Why don't parents...

Reminds me of the time I saw an old man in walmart with what I assume was his grandson. The kid was being rowdy and wanting to touch everything he saw. The old man stopped and gave the kid the "look" and that was all it took. Never spoke a word, never raised his hand, just that "look".
LOL I have been practicing that look for years now and havent got it right yet. :B

Success!!! Thanks for the idea Super Dave. For mine I used House Autry Seafood breader, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. One egg and half a cup of buttermilk for the base. Wonderful golden brown in less than 2 minutes.
