RE: Power converters

I would put in a whole new panel if the fit is easy.
http://www.bestconverter.com/PD4045-45-Amp-Inteli-Power-Mighty-Mini-Power-Center_p_353.html
This is made for a 30a 120vac cord and 45a 12vdc to run lights and charge battery etc.

RE: types of solar panels

Forum Members Solar Installations With Pics
Shipping cost can really raise the price. If you have a local seller to pick up it will really help.
I assume you are looking for a nominal 12v panel, 80w to 160w, PWM controller.
I bought mine at http://www.solarblvd.com/ but they seem sold out of the panels you are probably looking for.
The major equipment should be $2 to $3 per watt or keep looking. It is way easy to spend $10 per watt. Although there is a new tariff on Chinese panels that could be pushing the price up. If you find some close outs at a good price jump on them quick.

RE: Electrical Issues

I would still contact WFCO direct and send it in along with trailer proof of purchase to either refund the price you paid out of pocket or send a warranty replacement. Then you have a spare or ebay it.

RE: Baja Hwy 1 - Road Conditions

Click to quote my post and you can see how the syntax of the picture needs to be changed.
I removed this first part "http://wazzappennenbaja.blogspot.com/ width=640"
And this end part "GL=US"
Then moved the "{/img}" to the end just after ".jpg"
(Brackets changed to {} just for illustration if left correct in this description there is a syntax error.)
Ok, this is making me crazy. Here is the URL of the photo that 2oldman posted for me, thank 2 oldman, but WHY won't it post when I put it in? And Tom, I didn't see a 'tutorial' for Picasa on the info you gave me.

RE: Brake/bearing inspection needed after one season?

If it was done right from the factory it is good for many years and miles.
Do you feel lucky?
Once you KNOW it was done right then you can relax a bit.
I had one bearing set showing heat damage the first time I pulled mine apart after two years. I think it was set too tight.

RE: converter Please help

Also tell him DO NOT try to run the ac on 110 power. The ac requires at least 30amp power. How do you get 30 amps past the 20 amp branch circuit breaker in the RV?

RE: two generators or one?

Yes the 2000 would be near max continuously to run a 15k air conditioner. You could dial down the amps but then you would be using battery power. A big solar set up could really help in the day so then it would depend on the duty cycle to stay cool at night without depleting the battery.
I am usually looking for hookups if the air needs to be running 24/7.

RE: Air Conditioning Sealing

Nice work. Very typical. I dressed mine best I could at the main opening but I think there are more issues somewhere along the duct to the vents.
My heating ductwork was just a bad and restricted 90%.

RE: converter help!

You fix the converter by replacing it.
Give Randy a call, he will set you up.
www.bestconverter.com
Fridge has a 120v heating coil that is probably burned out.
Microwave if you are super lucky blew an internal fuse but you will need to take it apart yourself a find it. A new one will be less than taking it in for service.
Here is some electric info:

You are not alone. Here is a recent thread of the same conditions.
accidentally plugged in 240v to 120v camper....Help!!!
Since it is a TT hopefully the other thread in class A is the one that gets locked.

RE: AC/DC Frame Grounding. Need help.

Also many comments on the article state people's trailers wouldnt accept generator power until they put a dummy plug on the generator.
This is to trick a power protection device to think the ground is good to pass through power. They would be better to use the bypass mode when using a portable generator.
http://www.progressiveindustries.net/ems_hw50c.htm
Open Ground Protection:
If AC power has an open ground condition, the EMS will read an error code of E-2 and power will not be allowed to the RV.

RE: two generators or one?

I would look to a single 2000 and a Victron Multiplus inverter to pick up the surge or other short term loads as needed.

RE: AC/DC Frame Grounding. Need help.

NO. Just plug into the honda or any other portable generator. Do not tie the generator neutral and ground. Just start it, plug in, enjoy. No wiring changes or additions.
On board built in is different but that is not what you have.

RE: Starting the Solar Power System

Page 27 of the manual:
A disconnect is required for the battery and solar circuits to provide a means for removing power
from the TriStar MPPT. Double pole switches or breakers are convenient for disconnecting both
solar and battery conductors simultaneously.
Switch or breaker can be used. No fuse required on panels. 75 amp minimum fuse listed for battery connection.
The panel fuse rating is to be followed if three or more in parallel.

RE: Battery: Checking specific gravity

Not 1/8" from the very top :E
Water should be 1/8" below the split ring that extends down into the cell. Just touching is absolute max and may increase corrosion or even pushing water out.
Use tinned copper lugs and seal with heat shrink to reduce corrosion.

RE: solar 140 panels for $189 where are they?

If you are going connector to connector it's best not to have an extra 3' to coil up. I think the wire is mostly #10 so you may want a combiner box to run larger wire down to the controller... like #8 or maybe #6. Controller accepts up to #6 wire.
So assuming combiner box you just need some short MC4 cables and you would cut in half and then cut to length as they hit the box. So it depends on box placement. If panels are at each end it is best to have semi equal length.
If you are going to just use the MC4 parallel connectors (no combiner box) then you would probably parallel right at the panels and have a long cable to pull down. Again cut in half and cut to length at the controller. This puts 20 amps through #10 wire which is fine but you may have some voltage drop. But as long as you have 16+ volts hitting the PWM controller you should be fine.
For the existing wire.... do you know where the other end is? Probably goes about straight up. Otherwise I think you could use a signal generator and locator to find where it hits the roof. Check the electrical tools section at Home Depot etc. (or if you have an electrician friend he may have one) If you can keep the wire run way shorter it could be worth while.
Might even be best to mount the panels and then map the wire and go back for what you need.
Be sure to call first so they have the panels and controller on site.

RE: solar 140 panels for $189 where are they?

Don't forget the MC4 cables as needed to reach a combiner box or direct to controller. Or use the MC4 branch connectors to combine power in parallel. The two hole strain relief also work excellent to keep water out of the combiner box or out of the RV.
