RE: Wireless alarm system for campers

I'd be interested in such a set up as well. Especially when it calls your cell phone.

RE: Lippert Slide Out Boot

I watched the video again. I think that maybe the boot is turned inside out as the slide is retracted back into the rig. That would mean the wet material would be trapped inside the boot, and not exposed to the inside of the rig. If this is true,
1) Would this promote mildew/mold if put away wet?
2) What keeps it from bunching up when it is retracted?
I must be missing something.

RE: Lippert Slide Out Boot

Well, you made me curious enough to look it up. I found this link (I don't know how to do a clicky) of how the slide out boot is operated and installed: http://www.examiner.com/rving-in-national/the-texas-innovators-slideout-boot-video
I wonder what the material is, and how it stands up to use and UV rays?

RE: B&W companion ?

Love my BW Companion! I especially like being able to easily visually verify the locking jaws around the hitch pin. I never have to worry about high hitching because I can easily see that.

RE: class a with corvair engine

"Initially designed by David Peterson, Ultra Vans were built between 1960 and 1975, and had some association with General Motors. The bodies were of monocoque aluminum construction and powered by Corvair drive trains, until Corvairs were phased out. Then several different GM eight-cylinder engines were used. GMC acquired the license to build the vehicles but dropped plans after the fuel crisis began." from RVs& Campers 1900-2000, An Illustrated History by Donald F. Wood.

RE: Got it!!!

What a SWEET ride! I like the fact that it has decent towing mirrors. My old Chevy 1 ton has the standard small ones. I always wondered why GM didn't make tow mirrors standard on the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Doesn't Ford and Dodge do that?

I have something similar to that, but I installed it outside the rig to alert me of people approaching at night.

RE: Need new browser in laptop

I had troubles with Internet Explorer in the past as well with my Vista system. It would work fine, and then when there would be an update for IE, and then it wouldn't work right. I have switched to Mozilla Firefox and like it very much.

RE: Let's be honest: highly touted Good Sam fuel benefit

I guess I must be alone in this. I am not a member of Good Sam because of any discounts, or even the Highways magazine. I am a member of Good Sam because of the Standby Sams (which I believe is where the origins of the Good Sam Club comes from), and to support the Action Line consumer advocacy and Good Sam’s Parking Rights Council. (I have also used the Trip Routing service as well.) I believe these two advocacy groups are well worth supporting, especially in a day and age where governments tend to want to regulate too much (in my opinion), and RV manufacturing quality appears to be struggling (at least from what I've been reading in the posts on the Forum). And, of course, I get a LOT out of this Forum, which is part of the Good Sam/Affinity family. While I have not had any personal issues with government regulations concerning my RV, or manufacturer quality issues (after all, my fiver is ancient), I do enjoy the political and consumer clout "Good Sam" gives to RVers. For me, that's worth the membership fee. All the rest is just icing on the cake.
With that said, there is always room for improvement. To Good Sam's credit, I do think the amount of junk mail has been reduced (and it was a bit annoying), and the number of membership "renewal" requests (even though your membership could be 9 months or more from expiration) have been reduced (and I did find those VERY annoying). I do agree with the OP in that I think the currently advertised "UNBELIEVABLE SAVINGS!" is -shall we say- slightly overstated.
So, I guess when it comes time to renew my Good Sam membership, I'll renew.

RE: Chevy 2500 6.0 w 4.10 towing experience?

After reading all the posts I feel good that 6.0 guys are getting the same mpg as my 8.1.:B
I am looking at replacing my 2000 1-ton crew cab that has a 454. I was debating 8.1 or 6.0. But my 454 gets better mileage (12 to 13 mpg solo) than the 6.0's according to these posts. Glad to hear the 8.1 is about the same. I also hear that the 8.1 comes with the Allison transmission????

RE: Some poor sucker

So, I'M driving West on I-40 near RDU Airport in my Brand New Jag. There is a fellow in front of me pulling a fifth wheel. An 18 wheeler and a couple of auto's pass on my left. The 18 wheeler pulls back to right lane and suddently, I notice this black object fly from under the Fifth wheel in front of me and covers my windshield. I crash and total my Jag.:B
I was travelling down I-40 near RDU Airport when I saw what looked like a brand new Jag crashed in the ditch. I pulled over to see if I could help, and found this like-new vinyl generator cover. I figure it will fit my genny perfectly. Talk about luck. Who says being a good samaritan doesn't pay.

RE: Outside Water Heater grate

I like CloudDrivers' advice. If that doesn't work, I had the same problem with a '95 Bounder. It turned out that I needed to replace my propane regulator at the propane tank. After that, the soot was gone.

RE: Trailers Rims vs. Automotive Grade Rims

Howdy guys. I'm a bit confused with the "offset value" stuff. I borrowed a flat bed car hauling trailer once. On the road, I had a flat. I put the spare on (white wall side out), but the tire rubbed against the frame. So, I pulled the spare off, spun it around (white wall side IN), and it worked just fine. I believe the spare was an automotive wheel. Is this the "offset value?" If it is, could the OP just spin the wheel around and make it work? Would doing this cause damage to the bearings? I don't know if I'll ever face another situation like that again, but I would still like to be educated. Thanks.

RE: Cooper tires

A lot of Coopers are made in the USA, Ohio or Arkansas. But, obviously some are made in China. Read after the DOT#. The first two letter designate the factory. UT and UP are American plants. But, Coopers should say right on the sidewall where they are made.
I am making a lot of effort these days to buy American made products, if available, before imports even if it cost a little more. If it cost a lot more I'll still buy as long as the quality is better for the money. Usually, the American quality is better for the extra cost. Not always but, usually.
It's the difference between a Hobart welder and a Harbor Freight welder. The Hobart cost more but, will last many times longer and make the kind of welds you can bet your life on.
X2 on making the effort to buy American!!!!!
