RE: Bad smell

It may be as simple as one of the p-traps may be void of water and letting smells in. Pour water into all traps including shower, etc. and Maybe? I know that the gray tank can smell horrible.

RE: Chair Removal

If you have to stop fast or get into an accident you and the passenger will be stopped by your seat belt. What is going to stop the new recliner? Just leave the seat belt attached to the floor and belt down the new chair when you head out We took out a small chair and a couch in a new 2012 Winnebago we purchased and replaced it all with 2 recliners. The seatbelts that were there are still there and hold the chairs ( actually there are 3 seat belts now attached to the floor to use.

RE: Life Style? Doing what?

First year we retired, we traveled 21,000 miles in 6 months. Stayed in a different park almost every night. Felt like your do 3 weeks in one week. It was rush and go. We actually enjoyed it, but the next year, spent 6 months and about half the miles. Learned to stay a week in one spot. This year we are spending 9 months on the road. Have only traveled about 4,000 miles so far and have about 2,000 miles to get home in the next month. We have learned to stay a month in one spot when we want. Have really learned how to enjoy certain areas. Have learned how to go out during the week if we want, stay home on weekends when the crowds are out. Have learned to stay home and bake cookies and take a nap if it is bad weather. We now love doing nothing when we want and going out seeing things on our time. Time will teach you how to slow down and smell the roses. It takes a while, but it comes naturally.

RE: RV Parks in Las Vegas

LV RV Resort We always stay here. Total security. you don't get in if you aren't staying there. Great rates and clean as a whistle park. We have stayed in a number of the parks and we now only go here. The KOA is handy if you don't have a car, but if you do, it is not worth the price.

RE: Summerizing home for 5-6 months

The same as if you were winterizing. Turn off all water to house, put the pink stuff in your drains and toilets, drain and turn off your hot water tank. Turn off all gas lines to appliances and unplug all electronics. Empty your fridge and freezer, but leave on. Set your thermostat to 80 AC in summer and 60 heat in winter. Letting the inside of your house get too hot or too cold is not good for your furniture, appliances etc. Leave lights on timers, shut all curtains and drapes, lock everything up, SET ALARM and go. Either turn your lawn sprinklers on or blow out your sprinklers in winter We have someone check the inside of the house once a month and the outside is watched by a lot of people daily.

RE: Mattress topper for our brand new Parklane mattress?

We have used the Costco Gel topper and it is truly great. Bed Bath and Beyond has toppers. I just looked at them yesterday and many of them seem luxurious. The Gel topper can be cut with sissors to any size and then put back in its cover. Cut it a little larger than the exact measurement as when you lay on it, it will come in from the sides by a couple inches.

RE: Help me find a chair base hold-down, please

I think why people are telling you to go to Winnebago is that they make what you are looking for. We just took out a small recliner out of a new 2012 Winnebago sightseer. The chair was hooked to the floor with a swivel bolted down bracket that allowed the chair to swivel out if you unscrewed the bracket or push back and tighten to travel. Winnebago has every part available that is in their coaches.

RE: System wanted to remember campgrounds

I, the DW, keep a daily journal of our travels. I learned right away that I have to be very specific about a park we stay in to remember it. If we liked it, I will describe the bathrooms, the layouts, gravel, concrete, etc. I try to find one really specific thing (we talked to a fellow Marine that had 2 dogs) to really remember. DH takes pictures that really show the layout and the view from our RV. The more you comment on a park the easier it will be to remember. I also use Google Earth to get an overhead view of the parks we are going to stay and those we have stayed. Tells a lot.

RE: Emergency Assistance

I have been a member of Good Sam for over 7 years and never used any of their services until last week. And still have not used them. Let’s just say I am not a happy camper, I called them for a leaky valve stem (flat inner dual 22.5) they quoted me $165.00 for service. I went out on my own and had Commercial tire service come out and fix it for $100.00 total including new stem. Correct me if I’m wrong but where is the roadside service when you have to fork over $65.00 more than retail. We have never had to pay anything but the tip for any service unless we ask for something above and beyond (like today towing 6 miles per our request instead of the 1 mile that the tire could have been repaired) Not sure why GS charged you anything. You should question why?

RE: Emergency Assistance

Have had GS Road Side Emergency Service for 7 years. Have used it 4 times. Best money ever spent. 3 of the uses were for flat tires (1 on our first Travel Trailer, 1 on our truck and one "TODAY" on our Toad) and 1 was for an accidental lockout on our Toad "ONE WEEK AGO" Every call has been excellent. Help arrived within one hour on all calls. The service today, was much more than just changing a tire as our Mazda Miata does not carry a spare. They sent a tow truck to tow the car from the RV Park. They paid for the first mile of tow and we paid $4.00 per mile for the other 5. We would not have had to pay anything except we had to go to Discount Tire as our tires were only 6 months old and we had full replacement on the tire. What we have determined is that every flat has been a screw or nail. I sure wish construction trucks would better protect the loose screws and nails. Like I said 2 uses in the first 7 years and then 2 times in a week. WORTH EVERY DIME FOR EASE OF USE AND PEACE OF MIND.

RE: Have you damaged your car while being towed?

DH sets up for traveling I, the DW double checks to make sure. Too easy to have someone stop by and try to talk to you as you are getting ready. Too easy to forget something when that happens. Actually too easy to forget something anyway. About 30,000 miles towing have never had a mishap. Knock on Wood

RE: Where do you live?

on a 1.5 acre lot in a County Island inside a city of 180,000 in the East side of the State of Washington. Downsized when got near retirement. Have 4 RV/boat/toy garages plus a 3 car garage/shop. Have more garage/shop space than house and like it that way. Small 2000 sq foot home that we spend about 3 to 4 months there a year. The rest of the time it stays locked and alarmed.

RE: How close to home camping?

It would all depend on whether you consider getting there part of your camping experience or does it start when you get there. If it starts when you get there, who cares how far you go, the closer the better

RE: Never registered, never title Class A by accident

I was wrong about the dealer being out of business, and La Mesa RV in Tucson responded to my phone call yesterday and helped me through the process. Basically, this is an out of state purchase as far as the dealer is concerned, and I will owe the difference between what I paid in sales tax in Arizona, about $5,000, and the tax California would have charged, or about $16,000. While that's a lot, it seems like it's what would have happened if I'd gotten it right the first time, without the long, drawn out divorce making access to paperwork impossible, and leaving the RV sitting, untouchable for over 2 years. My only question now is whether to hire a lawyer. What kind of specialty would I be lookhng for? There doesn't seem to be a category for "vehicle law".. How is it that you paid Arizona sales tax and were not a resident of that State. Paying the Sales Tax, would have generated either a temporary paper DMV plate good for usually 30 days to secure your own registration from another state or you would have had Arizona registration done. Arizona doesn't do it any other way A Temporary Paper Plate should have been the clue that you had to do something more to secure permanent plates. The dealership will NEVER transfer out of state plates to a newly purchased vehicle unless they have completed the entire transaction for taxes, registration and title for the other State and that State allows plates to be transferred to the new vehicle rather than new ones being issued. Some dealerships will do this for out of state buyers and others just put the temp plate on and advise you that you will have to complete the transaction with your State as it is Against the Law in Most states.
