RE: Leaf springs Ford 450

The leaf springs are reversed on those models. I'd suspect it's to prevent the unit from being too far off the ground and they work fine.

RE: Mossberg says to hold off on laptop purchase

Considering Win 7 did some a big injustice by disallowing backwards compatible software use, I'm not at all interested in Win 8. Even MS's so-called 'Virtual Machine' fails.
Windows 7 was NOT my idea.

RE: Towing a 2002 Cougar

The Cougar is on the same platform as the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique, which Remco lists as towable as is for the 5-speed.
Blue Ox lists a baseplate for the Contour/Mystique and judging from the drawings in the Blue Ox installation manual for them, it appears to be similar, if not identical, to the Cougar baseplate (with the exception of the receptacle mounts).
Perhaps I should ahve been more specific in that I'm asking for input from anybody having direct experience towing any of the three (3) models.

Towing a 2002 Cougar

Does anybody tow a 1995-2002 manual transmission Mercury Cougar, Ford Contour or Mercury Mystique?
If so, please offer any hints or suggestions.
Thank you.

RE: Conflicted

You're not missing a thing. It appears you are approaching this in an intelligent manner, as well you should.
This is an expensive undertaking and much thought must be devoted to a decision you won't regret after the papers are signed.
Ask questions and talk to the manufacturers. We can only offer opinions (and you know what they say about opinions, yes?).
Whatever your decision, good luck and safe travels.

RE: Conflicted

Driving secondary roads let you travel through the country, not past it as on Interstates.

RE: Conflicted

FRP=Fiber Reinforced Plastic=Fiberglass (like boat Hulls).
General info:
I got just about 10 MPG on the 2007 E350 2350 we had and now get a little over 9 on the 2011 E450 2552. I believe this is mostly due to the slightly higher numerical differential ratio of the E450. I've also noticed the E450 doesn't downshift as frequently as the E350 on relatively slight inclines.
We prefer US and County roads to Interstates.

RE: Conflicted

As you asked, here are just my thoughts:
If you like layout of the Unity u24lb and want to explore the possibility of it layout on a different chassis, I’d ask Phoenix Cruiser if they could build that layout on a Ford E350 or E450 chassis. You’ll have to give up about 5 miles per gallon though.
Regarding chassis alone, the 93” wide Unity u24lb body is 14” wider than the 79.3” rear wheel width where the Phoenix Cruiser’s 93” wide 2400 body is 2” narrower than the Ford E350’s 94.9” wheel width. If you upgrade to a Ford E450 chassis, the rear wheel width is 5” wider than the 93” wide body. Then there’s the greater cargo carrying capacity and ease of finding a service facility.
Admittedly, after owning 3 Phoenix Cruisers through upgrades, we favor them for reasons such as their factory direct pricing, willingness to custom build and after sale service/support.

RE: Too early to dewinterize?

Like joelc, we also live in Milford, PA. Again like him, I would not be comfortable with not re-winterizing when I came back.
The possibility of freezing weather here again is just too great.

RE: V10 oil pressure sending unit

Before you get all wound up on this, most oil filters have an anti-drain back valve built into them. If it does not seal properly, oil will eventually (or quickly) drain back into the pan when the engine is shut down. Then, when the engine is started again, the oil must first be pumped into the filter before you'll get pressure to the sending unit, regardless of whether it's a simple switch or real pressure sender.
FWIW, I believe Skillet is correct. Simply hanging what appears to be a gauge in the cluster does not necessarily mean the sender is more than a simple on/off switch. The gauge can just be simple 'eyewash' to mitigate the negative feelings about 'idiot lights'.
Suggestion: As you said this is "recently, upon startup" , change the filter before you do anything else.

You can also look at systems sold by Leviathan Holdings on eBay. I've had 2 systems bought from them and they worked/work very well.

RE: You aske for it...here's the pictures of the new motorhome!

Sure, it's a nice looking rig and it seems you did well on the price. But, far more importantly, you're in for some of the best times of your live's. Especially with the kids as young as they are. None of you will ever forget the adventures. And the memories....................Priceless.
Take a lot of pictures and keep them in a safe place.
Would that I could go back and re-live my years with my kids.
God bless and stay safe.

RE: On board air compressor?

I've used mine to inflate from zero to 80 PSI (load range E) because a dually extension was loose and leaked all the air, which took about 15-20 minutes. To increase 70 to 75 PSI should take about 5 minutes.
The above is from recollection and estimate, not actually timing the operation.

RE: Winnebago Eyre :Australian Winnebago

The tip-up bed provides for hanging clothes where drawers would not.
Neat layout. Wonder what load range the tires are (no duallys).

RE: On board air compressor?

I also have what Dittmer has. But, be warned - do not use the cigarette lighter adapter. If it's even slightly loose it will eventually either melt the plug or take out the fuse.
Use the Alligator clips directly to the battery.
Inflating a tire to 80 PSI will take a while but will get the job done.

RE: Older programs on Windows 7

I've tried many of the above suggestions without success. However, might it be possible to directly copy the files/program from my XP computer to a separate hard drive and run it off that? I don't have any XP disks.
In another instance, I just copied the files directly from the XP computer to a flash drive and loaded it to the W7 computer and it worked just fine.
