RE: The 3/4 ton SUV dillemma...

I looked for a 8.1L 4.10 Burb with under 75k miles for 8 months. Only found about 5 I'd purchase in the whole country. Some were farther than I wanted (29k mile in Cali). Some I just missed out on. I have a search saved on Autotrader for them. I also used Autotempest to search Craigs lists ads.
There are a lot more Excursions and they are bigger inside, but I did not want one. Very rare quad bucket seats, no headrests in the 3rd row, and according to the specifications did not fit in my garage. The Burb rides and drive more refined along with more family friendly interior, with the Ex more like a HD truck. I prefer the TV that felt more like a half tron SUV, though many like the brawniness of the Ex.
Some hints if looking for a 8.1L Burb: 8th VIN character is G for 8.1, U or 6.0L. Budget $175 for a new Curt receiver and another $175 for Ebay aftermarket OEM style mirrors. This one looks good to start.
The link is a very nice one.

RE: If Hyundai Built Its First 1/2 Ton P.U.?

I've been following Hyundai/Kia closely for the last few years, and their vehicular products have been steadily improving to the point where the new Sonata and Optima are getting a lot of positive attention from the auto-review media.
Their depreciation values have been getting better by big leaps.
Now they are using their own hybrid technology with batteries that are more advanced than any of the other manufacturers are using.
Yet they are holding the line on their pricing and still offering the best warranties.
****
No, I don't own a Hyundai product, but am impressed.

A Hyundai P.U. truck for N. America?:
I think a few years ago Hyundai had a prototype or styling exercise of a possible P.U. and it was impressive.
No, I haven't heard rumors that they are working on a P.U. for N. America, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were. Except for a few older snippets.

RE: RV.Net Forum's = Super Old School!!!!

Does anyone know the statistics for RV.NET? How many members, threads, posts?
Moderators don't have access to membership. However, the last time I heard, some months ago, it was around 250,000.
We are currently in a slow period - hope there are a lot of members out camping. With that said, as I type this, there are 5413 online.
As to the number of threads and posts, anyone that wants to add them up can find the values for each forum section listed on the forum's index page - click on the Open Roads Forum link found in the upper right portion of most forum pages. Two notes: There are 3 forums that members can't see on that page, and in late 2002, all of the posts in General RVing Issues were lost. At that time, General RVing Issues was the most active of the sections - there was no Around the Campfire section then, and all of those types of posts were place in General RVing Issues.
If you did total them, I think you would get more than 900,000 threads and approaching 11,500,000 posts.
Tom
Those are some pretty big numbers!!! I guess I can see why they don't want to upgrade the servers and the forum SW. It would be quite a task.

RE: RV.Net Forum's = Super Old School!!!!

As others have said it is free. Unlike many of the updated forum out there.
More importantly it is without a doubt the best RV forum available.
Yes there are ads, they want your address for their data base. But CW supports the entire forum. In the end they want to generate sales via the forum and get some return on there investment.
If the OP is as savvy has he claims I'm sure he understands all of this and realizes the RV .net forum is chock full of camping info and knowledgeable members that cannot be found anywhere else on the net.
It works even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. RV net is designed to be a resource for all things related to camping and RV'ing it is not a fashion statement or on the cutting edge of internet forums.
I frequent other forums some are more up to date however I doubt any are as large as RV net
Another Old School thought. "if it ain't broke don't fix it". RV net works fine in its current format.............and its all free or shall I say no cost to me because the reality is its not free but generously provided by the affinity Group.
Does anyone know the statistics for RV.NET? How many members, threads, posts?

RE: RV.Net Forum's = Super Old School!!!!

Yep. Coming here is like tent camping after owning a fancy diesel pusher - you have to rough it, not something you want to do all the time, but the surroundings (information) makes up for it. Sometimes...
But it would be nice if the Camping World folks who own it spent a nickel or two to bring it up to par...
That's a good analogy!!!

RV.Net Forum's = Super Old School!!!!

What's up with the forum SW that RV.NET uses? I go to update my profile and signature and I see that I now have to type in my street address??? WTH??? This forum is so far in the past it's pathetic!! Not only is there no picture hosting but there is no interactive HTML either (i.e. you can't highlight text and click bold). Maybe none of the other members notice this because they do not belong to other internet forum sites, but I can tell you that this one is so far in the past that there is no help!!!

RE: What is more useful, sliding rear window or rear defroster?

Ford offers a power sliding with defrost on the 2010+ F-150. Does it offer it on the 2011 SD as well? Win-Win!
I love my power rear slider (no defrost) on my 2003 crew cab truck. That combined with the power moonroof offers precise wind control to maintain a quiet and cool cabin. Or, I figure opening 6 windows is the closest I'll have to a convertible with comfortable seating for 5. Need a bed cover though or debris from the bed will come into the cab. I also have carried 16' 2x lumber through it on several occasions.
But I have a good friend who never opened his windows. He just always lets his automatic climate control work, so a sliding rear window is of little use.
Yep, I've got both on my 2010!!!

No prices and of more use to fleet then RV'ers but I thought of interest.
They are starting with the F450 and F550 cab-chassis which is what RV mfg's use to upfit class C's I believe.

RE: Test Drove a F150 with the 3.5 Eco Boost - Wow

Here is what Ford needs to do. Build a HD version of the Expedition with the EcoBoost. It shouldn't be too hard using the F150HD chassis.
That would be nice wouldn't it.

RE: Can dime-sized plastic dropped into fuel tank cause trouble?

If it fell into the filler neck then I don't think it even made it into the tank. I'm pretty sure down at the bottom of the filler neck there is a screen that prevents you from sticking a hose directly into the tank. Try putting a hose into the filler neck and see if it stops prior to going into the tank.

RE: Ford's Engine Assembly Plant Location

Our new 2011 Fusion was made in Saltillo, Mexico. So far, it has been a very nice car with no immediate problems.
I believe the 6.7 diesel is fully manufactured in Mexico, not just assembled there from US manufactured parts.
The Fusion and the MKZ (and the Milan before the canned Mercury) are build in Hermosillo Mexico.

RE: Best Load Range E Tires

I have had good luck with Firestone Transforce At's E rated tire on my 2002 F150HD 7700 pay-load pkg. Pull a small 5er and I like the E rated tires. My rear axle rating is 4800lbs.\
I too am very happy with my Firestone Transforce A/Ts' on my Excursion. I will agree that E rated tires on a 1/2 ton truck is a bit much. I doubt that the OE wheels can handle 80 psi and if you cannot keep that much pressure in them then there is no point in getting them.

RE: Top selling cars in June only one Japanese brand in top 10!

And only 2 of those can actually have a "Made in the USA" tag on them, the Chevy Malibu and the Toyota Camry.
Here is the story from Cars.com
Clicky
Interesting article. I found the following paragraph of particular interest.
"Detroit's full-size pickups, once a dominant force on the AMI, remain off the chart. The F-150 held a commanding No. 1 spot in the first three years that Cars.com compiled the index, with domestic parts content as high as 90 percent. Alas, today's Michigan- and Missouri-built F-150 bears only 60 percent domestic content rating. Similarly, the Chevrolet Silverado, which held second place for much of the F-150's reign, has just 61 percent domestic content. Chrysler's Ram 1500 pickup's 70 percent domestic content fares better, but it still falls short of the AMI's 75-percent cutoff."
In my mind Ford and GM (I won't include Dodge because they are Italian owned)may source suppliers that make parts outside of the US but the bottom line is that their vehicles are engineered and designed here and the profits stay here!!!

RE: Ecoboost Expedition?

The 4 cyl Ecoboost is going into the Focus and a few other models, from what I have heard. The 3.5 V6 Ecoboost is already in the Taurus and F150. I would imagine the V6 Ecoboost will go into the Expedition soon, and possibly others.
I really hope your right, but it isn't happening for MY 2012. Maybe for 2013?? Just in time for me to trade in my 2010 F150.
