RE: Exercising diesel gen monthly.. How many do it?

I did have a problem with my generator electrical output which was from rust on the rotor where the slip ring and brushes were apparently not making contact. This was corrected by a generator repair shop. The shop owner ran a stone on the shaft to clean the rust off. I now run my generator once a month for 10- 15 minutes which has been OK for a few years now. I use a space heater for load in the winter and run air conditioning for the load in the summer.

RE: Safe wind speeds to drive in

I would avoid 20 mph if I can. I have had compartment doors blow open and the awning come out in high winds. I now check the weather then arrange the trip based on the weather. More relaxed driving in lower winds. As said by others It will depend on how your Motorhome handles the winds.

RE: Cummins Diesel Exhaust Fluid Q & A

was not sure whether to post this on the class A forum but maybe I should have. The Motorhome Cummins engines ISB ISC ISL use SCR so it applies to the newer MH's. This was for general info for those using DEF and the interesting facts about shelf life of the DEF. 2010 emissions were being implemented where I worked so it was interesting to me.

Cummins Diesel Exhaust Fluid Q & A

I thought this Cummins publication may be useful to those with 2010 and newer diesel engines with DEF. The requirements for storage time and temps were new to me.

RE: Age 23 female considering living full-time.

It is a life style choice more than an economic choice as others have discussed. The small space and cold temps are the negatives. If you can rent or borrow an RV to try the concept before making a commitment that would be good.
good luck

RE: Air Brakes Frozen

some more thoughts, on air brake systems the "parking brake" is a chamber that has a spring inside of it. The park brakes are applied when the air is exhausted from the chamber so the spring applies the force to the lever to the brake shoes. If you can check if you have pressure at the spring chamber when you release the brakes then the problem is with frozen or rusted pads

RE: Air Brakes Frozen

you may try hitting the drums with a mallet or hammer. Sometimes the vibration from a hammer will free them. Never did this my self but was told by a truck mechanic that he used this method. The shoes can rust to the drum.

RE: Pocono Speedway

It has been a few years since I went to Pocono . I would also recommend trying to get the family area which I think was on the inside of turn 3 or on the outside of the track, I cannot remember. The party people move to turn 1 late Friday night ( around 1 am sat.) and the rest of the infield gets quieter. My friend had a bus that we could watch from the roof as see a good part of the back side of the track. You can walk to parts of the track and see the cars reasonably close.
good luck

RE: Out of Propane - Any Issues?

If you have the name of the local propane supplier you may want to ask what they think. If this was only empty for a short time it seems that you should not have a problem with moisture in the tank

RE: What was your Occupation??????

39 years as an engineer, the last 31 years working in truck powertrain installation for a class 8 truck manufacturer. Bought a gas chassis and have not been able to workout getting a diesel.
It is interesting to see all the different careers. Thanks for the post.

Vintage 1926 GMC motorhome

Isaw this vintage motorhome at the antique car show in hershey in Oct. It was for sale in the car corral. The motorhome was recently restored. It was originally built for a Doctor in New York. According to the sign he drove this to Florida for a winter!!! Thought others may be interested.

RE: triton V 10 motorhome gas

before you by it would be good to get to drive one on a roads you know for a good distance ( 30-50 miles if possible) I struggle with the ride on my Ford but others seem to be OK with theirs . For me it depends on the conditions, rough roads and wind are the problem . It is like driving two different motorhomes, easy when the road is smooth and there is little wind, and a challenge when the roads are rough or there is wind above about 10 mph.
The V10 engine seems to be a good engine with little problems which is a plus for the gas chassis.
good luck

RE: Ford F53 Winnebago Adventurer Nightmares

Mark
sorry to heat about all the problems. not a good way to start the rv life.
Not sure how to resolve all the problems but hope you can find and seal the roof leaks. that would be my number 1 concern to resolve.
I think a good dealer with techs that have experience may be the answer to the roof leak.
From reading your post I think a rv built on a truck chassis would be the better choice for you. I saw a rig like this on the way to race track which seemed ideal. It was a Haulmark RV body on a Mack CH chassis towing a large trailer. This set up makes sense to me because the service is easier ( rad up front ) and everything can be serviced easier. Unfortunately this type of MH is hard to find and you do give up living space and storage. I wish there were options like this because I would sell my 1999 F53 to get one,
Good luck and hope you get everything worked out.
