RE: B+ motorhomes

Tire Size: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=46
In summary, 225 is width of the tire (in millimeters), 75 is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width and 16 is the diameter of the wheel that it mounts on (in inches).
245/75-16 is quite a bit bigger than 225/75-16. It may not sound like much of a difference, but those extra 20 millimeters make quite a difference.
Yup, the wider tires can/will create problems is they rub together on the 'Duals'... Overload, under inflatled, etc... This heat Will turn them into 'May Pops'.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I would Highly suggest doing some diagnosis, before you do Anything.
A compression check would be one of the first steps.
Does it use oil?
Is the PVC valve stuck?
When you open the 'oil fill cap' does it push out of that?
Does it smoke on acceleration, on deceleration, or all the time?
Get or read a good manual on your engine application, as to 'engine smoking'.
You may hane any one of a multitude of problems. Eliminate/narrow the possibilities, hoping that it Not rings. It May be as simple as plugged oil gallery drainage ports/passageways. And a good engine cleaner is all you need.
As a general rule I don't like engine cleaners because most of them 'clean' by breading done deposits, which also reduces the viscosity of the oil. And that ain't good! When I do injector cleaner, I like to change the engine oil within 3 tanks of gas later, cause some of that stuff could get by the rings and into the crankcase..... I like to Not damage my bottom end with poor viscosity.

RE: Looking for RV maintenance (Ford) in the Denver area?

What did The Auto Place want for the same brake work?
We've done business with Mtn States since before they were Mtn States. Haven't done much with them lately however. But the number they shot me on the the tranny service was better than the others I called.
That saying a bunch when the dealer is lower than the independents.

RE: Cost of Propane

1st of May a company in Buena Vista was delivering for $180-Keep Full, and $1.85 On Demand per gallon delivered.
I paid $17.62 for a 20#er exchange at Lowes' last week here in Denver.

RE: New to the Pup world and need advice.

PS The bear argument is a bit faulty as I have seen personally doors of heavy duty SUV's ripped of by hungry bears. No Aliner will keep them out.
I guess I was a bit too, 'tongue in cheek?', the bear comment wasn't meant to be serious. :B
The ONLY bear problem I've experienced was at the RV park where my
'doghouse' is. They destroyed the dumpsters several times. No respect for Waste Management, ya know. Of course they did tear up a 'tin shed', that had a freezer and a can of dogfood in it.
Life's too short to be serious.
But on a more serious note; The Aliner can be used in the National Parks, while the PUPs are banned from ore or two IIRC. At least back when I had mine Yellowstone said. No Way Hoser! So we went up stream, out of the park and camped at a private CG. We spent something over a week in Montana streamside with no problems.
Of course unlike Colorado where they move them from the Front range up to my Dobhouse, in Montana I think the move is from the dumpsters to the Living Room/Family Room, Floor.

RE: What is your favorite pass in Colorado?

I didn't used to not mind Berthoud,,, but since it lost a lane a few years ago. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
But Red Mountain and Wolf Creek, nope won't go there again. They just don't make drugs that good.

RE: Royal Purple

Replant
Yeah, I just went to Mobil 1 in the Hemi PU. It seemed to 'break in' between 7500-8000 miles. MPG increased a bit and it started sounding smooth. It hasn't used any oil, but I wanted to make sure everything was seated before I went to Synthetic. Hemi requires 5w-20, so it's scary thin oil. Wix filter.
I did cheat on the MH engine oil, went to O'Reily's full synthetic, because of price, since I change it annually with mostly no miles on it. Still Mobil 1 filter.
I'll go Mobil 1 on the rear ends when I change them. Transmissions will get Mobil 1, as well.

RE: New to the Pup world and need advice.

I will admit to thinking I Needed a folder since I first saw an Aliner some years ago. Never had or used one yet. Part of the attraction I guess is the 'hard' sides, since we have bears out here, although I never had a problem with them in the PUP.
Good news is you have a decent Tow Vehicle, and have flexibility to go to the extra load.

Jared
You didn't say what your tow vehicle is. Price aside,,, yeah right. The Jayco is the larger, heavier unit. Do the kids need a Queen bed? IF the floorplan is enough better and the PUP is in really good condition, you could try for a better price on it. And of course IF you don't mind the extra weight on the Tow Vehicle. ????
The newer, smaller Fleetwood, is the smaller box and thus pull more comfortably, and still has three beds available. A better 'Deal' I'd think.
Clicky
I just came from the Houston CL, not much being offered at the moment.

RE: front trailer hitch

I'm Not an engineer,,, but I think you'll find that a 500# 'Tongue Weight' hitch. Will NOT survive putting 500#s on a 18" 'Lever'. The forces are multiplied by the 'lever'.
I was not Kidding about running over your own Bike. With one receiver the failure could well be sudden and catastrophic.
NOw if you can build the rack so that the whole load is DIRECTLY above the Ball, it'll work. But if you are extending out from there to clear the Bars, pegs, pipes, etc... You NEED to get the formula in play, to figure out the 'real'/effective, loading.
I don't mean to be an alarmist, or the weight police. However since I can't pretend to know how to figure the load, all I can do is say,,,, find out!
Bailing wire and Duct Tape, is not recommended here.

RE: Looking for RV maintenance (Ford) in the Denver area?

L
So you DO need to be aware of what the attitudes are on servicing MHs. From your sig. I thought you were speaking of your PU.
If it's still within striking distance. I'd recommend getting a quote from Mtn States as well. I got quotes from CW, Big O, and a couple of Independents (private, out of the garage places), for a transmission service. Mtn States was quite a bit less, and they were quoting from the 'book'. Just FYI.

RE: Pulled Trigger (Quick Pointers Please)

Since I know you haven't used one much. Maybe a fit of a tip for useage.
I left the rear mattress out of mine and put an ice chest/refrigerator back there on the 'shelf' that it left next to the kitchen. Easier access to the foods, and keeps the floor clear. I also put a couple of rubbermaids up there that had spices, dry foods, dishes, etc in them.
A major improvement for my aching back. I always used the 7 day/extreme coolers. One for cold foods and one for frozen goods. But the Frozen one was kept in the shade outside when we were stopped. They beat the heck out of the old 'ice boxes'.
If you're going to be leaving it anywhere unhooked. Buy a hitch lock to disable the hitch so it can't be towed.

RE: Pulled Trigger (Quick Pointers Please)

For the latest in methods to patch. Call your local awning shop. There may be adhesives that will hold these days. I stitched patches on my old one with a leather stitching tool. Didn't look the best but it didn't fall off either, a bit of silicone and it didn't leak either.
By the way. Good Purchase. Enjoy.

RE: New to the Pup world and need advice.

I haven't had one for a few years now and it was an old Coleman. I found that the support posts were of larger dimension (more durable?), than Viking and Rockwoods that I looked at.
A friend had a much newer Viking, I found that the 'drawer supports', were more of a PITA, than the Coleman as well. Viking was better for taller people however, as it was 6 or 8"s wider... so longer beds. Dave didn't like mine cause he'd bang his head or jam his toes during the night, so he bought the Viking. My impression of it was that it wouldn't stand winds in the Up position as well as my old Coleman, however.
Rockwood at that time was a less expensive unit and the floor felt like jelly under my feet. At 240, it didn't leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling. JM.o2
This was in the mid late 90s. Coleman was an old 1976.

RE: Steps won't come out

My Jayco has a switch labeled Batt. in the same area as the Step, and Porch switches. With the Batt. to off Nothing works 12vdc inside the coach, unless it's plugged into shore power. Then the converter supplies the 12vdc, instead.
If I'm not careful I toggle both the Batt. and the Step, switches and Still don't have operation. Gotta pay attention and get ON and ON, then the steps work. Of course there is the ignition override that closes the steps automatically, but doesn't deploy them. The first couple of times, it made me scratch my head too.

RE: Royal Purple

My brother put Purple in his 6 speed manual tranny. Was in an F700 Ford. He didn't leave it in long. Said it had no 'cushion', it felt like the syncro and gears were metal to metal He was a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, and a bit particular on lubricants.
We have both used Mobil 1 for a number of years. I still use it.

RE: Securing Batteries

I'd think if you are involved in something that breaks it loose..... you'll have larger concerns than a battery banging around.
If it were mine I'd add one and go camping.
