RE: Water Hose

Hi, I tried the garden hose once. I was not happy with the taste.

RE: 30 amp and 50 amp electric question

Hi Ron, You are connected to a 50 amp supply, but the 30 amp main breaker in the RV limits that to 3600 watts rather than 6000. Does this mean I am getting 25 or 50 amp service? This subject matter always gets me confused.

RE: generator to run A/C

Hi, My Air Conditioner runs at only 960 watts. It is 13500 btu's. Consider one of the new Magnum inverters that do generator assist. The surges are handled by the inverter using the house battery bank.

RE: external fridge fan

Hi, I used twin 5 inch units. The fans appear to be quieter this year. I'm not sure why. They are located on top of the existing grating and I did have to build up the clearance above them with some wooden spacers.

RE: coach battery switch

Hi, Relays can fail. I'd be glad it failed in the "on" position.

RE: converter Please help

Hi, If he is lucky there may be just a destroyed converter. Who ever did the wiring ought to "cough up" for the repairs. The fridge won't work without a reliable 12 volt supply--and it may be that the battery is too far discharged to provide for that. Every item in the RV that uses 12 volt and 120 volt power will need to be checked. It may also be that all the 12 volt control boards have been damaged as the converter may have been putting out 24 volts. This will not be cheap as there are boards for the fridge, furnace, and water heater. Start by checking all the twelve volt fuses--and pray that they have burnt out. It is prudent to check voltage before plugging in.

RE: types of solar panels

Hi, The type of construction of the panel doesn't matter much, so long as it will fit the available space. Post how many amp-hours of battery bank and the folks here will gladly help you spend your money. It is best to DIY if at all possible.

RE: Triple E GT - Radio question!

Hi, My radio is connected to my house battery bank. It turns off when I used the disconnect switch in the RV.

RE: generator to run A/C

Hi, I have a Boliy--supposed to do 3300 watts--but it stalls out at 1100 watts. USELESS.

RE: v-10 thermostat range

Hi, When I reach the south the temperatures normalized at about 190. I think I need a cold front for the RV. Preferably one that has a bug screen for summer time use.

RE: Honda Generators

Hi, I'd go for the 3000 and get a lift unit of some kind. I agree on the Boliy--anyone want to buy an unreliable generator shaped object?

RE: Towed electric cord

Hi, My father used to use a screen door spring on ours. Bungee cords did not exist back then.

RE: two generators or one?

Hi, Another option is to use something similar to the Magnum inverter that can assist the generator for starting heavy loads. That would mean there would be no need to "kick" the air-conditioner off.

RE: Electric/Hybrid RV ?

Hi, Tesla is now selling an electric car with a 160 mile range ($49,000). They are sold out of the units that have 235 mile range. That is only going to get better as time goes on. I still believe a fuel cell could be used to power an RV. After all Ballard Power systems proved it could be done.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Hi, I added a dedicated inverter outlet in the kitchen--that lets me use both shore power and the batteries at the same time. I tend to do a lot of electric cooking!

Hi SWD, I'll 2nd 3rd and 4th your opinion on the Boliy. I have one and I would not give it to anyone it works so poorly.

RE: Solar/inverter ?

Hi, I'd be very cautious about Handy Bob. His site is somewhat better but still quite wordy, sometimes misleading and often error prone. Hence the out of date information on inverters. YMMV. Mine uses exactly what the manual says it will. They do "cheat" and call it 500 mw instead of 0.5 of an amp. Hi, Actually most inverters do use some power when they are turned on and waiting to power up items. For mine it is about 0.5 of an amp, or about 7 watts. Yes, inverters DO use power while sitting idle waiting for loads, and according to HandyBobsSolarBlog, many large inverters use 2 amps or more when idle. I'd be cautious about believing the manufacturer's specs until I measured the current used myself. Bottom line, you will not want a big inverter left connected when you are not planning to use it. You will also want to make sure that large 120v loads are switched off before connecting the inverter. Resistive loads such as your water heater and refirgerator use a lot of power, so need to be switched to propane.

RE: two generators or one?

Hi, If weight is not an issue the Yamaha 3000 SEB would be my choice. If the tow vehicle is diesel I might look at a larger generator that was diesel.

RE: Hot Water Drain mod

Hi, I prefer removing the nylon plug. I found out that quite a bit of water stays inside the bottom of the tank, so I use a plastic tube and siphon out as much as I can--particularly for winter storage. I don't want any water freezing in the bottom of the (expensive) heater tank.
