RE: Dumb Questions...Advice from old f**t

The best advice that I can give is to add details that will help folks better answer your questions. If you prefer Full Hook Ups vs. boondocking, back roads vs. expressways, shortest route vs. most scenic, type and length of your RV in campground questions.
In the "what to see and do" category, what do you like to see and do? History, amusement parks, beautiful views, hard core hiking, factory tours, etc.
And if you need directions, "Columbus" doesn't help much without OH, GA, or IN behind it.X2 Be specific, if you can. Folks here have the widest range of expertise you can imagine.

RE: Metal roof crack

For a little more umph you could cut a piece of aluminum .024 stock as a patch. Circle the crack with butyl, bed the patch in the butyl, then cover the seam with eternabond.

RE: TOTAL NEWBIES, looking for assistance intelligently

You can learn everything you need to know right here. Just ask! When we bought our "C", I spent months reading every post I could here. I have learned enough to have some idea about every system in our rig and have absorbed the vast experience here without having to learn from mistakes. welcome aboard.

RE: Risking an older one

Some age better than others.None of this, exept maybe the tires, is true.
Avoid the following:
- full time lived in
- stored in open
- roof / edge made in such a way that water likely leaked in
- expect that appliances are gone, propane system rusted out (esp if exposed to salt)
- generator expect to be gone by hours
- low mileage is a must, say 30,000 to 40,000 miles
- gasoline, unless you are into bus diesel pusher
- watch for electrical system issues... older ones are short / fire prone
- tires over 7 years are toast...
- expect brake job complete.. including reman calipers rotors...
- gas engines and transmissions can be had cheap for swap outs.
Still want one? None of this, exept the tires is true. Mainenance record will verify .

RE: Risking an older one

Most will tell you what a big mistake you are about to make. Check my sig. Bought this about the time we joined the group and couldn't be happier. repairs, yes. But with good due diligence, the right older vehicle is out there.

RE: What caulking for the round plastic cover on vents on roof?

I would use Eternabond tape. If you you insist on caulk, a butyl rubber is good. Then cover it with eternabond tape. DONE... for a lifetime.

RE: Freeze Scrambled Eggs???

I was curious myself, so I googled frozen scrambled eggs. Most of the answers that I found pulled the same stunt I tried to pull in school. If you don't know the answer, suggest a better question and then answer that. Somebody said that Aunt Jemima makes frozen breakfasts with scrambled eggs, but they didn't volunteer info about taste or texture.
So, after wasting 10 minutes of my life that I'll never get back, I still don't know the answer. I think the OP should try it and report back. The RV world wants to know! They freeze fine. Let me suggest you reheat them in a double boiler and not the microwave because they lose their texture.

RE: Burnt water smell from water heater

If the water has been in the tank any length of time, do the vinegar rinse thing.

RE: Burnt water smell from water heater

Burnt meaning rotten egg smell? Has your water heater been full since last fall? Vinegar water into tank. Flush, rinse, repeat. If I assumed wrong, good luck.

Good news. We started our family in Wenzel tents. The kids, now adults, still use them.

RE: Fort DeSoto Park - how strict are they about no swimming?

Wow. we were over by the fort and away from the campground. No one around, and we collected sand dollars and shells while wading up to our waists on the bay side. Warning signs about dangerous rip tides but nothing about no swimming. I know the campground is back aways from the fort but easily accesable.

RE: Bugs

We bought a ThermaCell at Walmart after a friend brought one to our rig. It worked great. About $25. It covers 225 sq feet.We love ours, but to the op point, rub wintergreen on your skin,or camp fire smoke.
