RE: Water Hose

I have no defensible answer other than, I just do! :E
The white hoses are so darned inexpensive that we always have 100ft onhand (2-25ft lengths and 1 - 50ft length) and replace them each spring......
Why do you replace them every year?

RE: Scoop on internet access? Newbie welcomes advice!

"Heavy user" is going to be problematic, no matter what. Wireless companies are offering faster & faster service, which is more & more reliable, but at the same time they are doing their best to CAP data usage. The big two - AT&T and VZW have eliminated their unlimited data plans. Others throttle speeds after the cap has been reached.
Those few carriers who continue to offer unlimited data are those with limited coverage, poor network performance, etc., etc.....
If you truly need unlimited data, you'll need to make some decisions, none of which will be cheap.
1. You can get two or more hotspot units and swap them out as they reach their data cap. VZW mifi units will run you $80/mo each for 10gb of data.
2. You can get a setup like Wifi-Ranger that will let you select from available wifi options (like campground wifi or free hotspots). It will also default back to an aircard if no accessible wifi is available. This will require some additional work on your part to manage connections and data usage, but it is a pretty slick setup!
3. Satellite service is also an option, but is very expensive, data speeds are marginal and you need a clear line of sight to the satellites for it to work.

RE: how old should you go.

If well maintained, a gasser chassis should easily last 150,000mi or more. Of course, as the years pass, the house components will require work and some replacements. Maybe a fridge at some point, water heater at some point.... None of those items will break the bank however! If you are happy with the rig and take good care of it, you'll come out way ahead financially.
We have been asking ourself's this same question. “How old is too old?" We are currently looking at buying a 2006 Tiffin gasser. I can’t retire for another 8 years and by then it will be 14 years old. That’s when we will want to use it the most. Should I wait closer to retirement to buy? How long will a motorhome last if taken care of???

RE: Looking to buy 1990 to 2000, what issues?

I totally agree with this advice. The older you go, you should be looking at higher end rigs only. Unless you are a true DIY'er and can deal with constant maintenance issues.
My advice would be to stay with "top of the line" models....ie: Foretravel "320", Country Coach "Magna" or "Affinity", Monaco "Signature" or "Executive" etc.
Test drive....These top models should still be solid even after 100,000 miles.

RE: Water Hose

The white hoses are so darned inexpensive that we always have 100ft onhand (2-25ft lengths and 1 - 50ft length) and replace them each spring. I would have no issues filling my tank from a garden hose, if I were certain that it hadn't simply been sitting out, open ended for any length of time.

RE: Fuel Price Gouging

I'm not so much worried about how fuel prices will affect my pocketbook while driving my coach, as I am about the 100mi per day I spend commuting. And how the price of fuel affects everything else we buy day-to-day.
The fuel used for the 3000-4000 miles I put on the RV every year is just a small part of my budget. Add it to the 40,000-50,000 miles that DW and I collectively put on our two autos, and your analysis starts to add up to real cash........

RE: Getting a refund from Camping World on extended warrenty

Huh???? So I can't come in and ask a question in an effort to prevent a problem? I have to wait till I have one? Let the moderators moderate and ignore just topics you don't want to participate in......
I agree, you do not start a post before you have a problem. I had a warranty from CW Extended Care. traded the MH. received a refund.

Interest rates are bottoming out, people are feeling a bit better about the economy and are probably trying to take advantage of the rates.

RE: how old should you go.

Are the issues serious enough to prevent you from using the rig till they are fixed? If major issues are piling up, I would consider dumping it. If the issues are minor and can be fixed easily, without you losing use of the rig, I'd keep it. It's all part of regular upkeep........
Well ,I have a 200 kountry star that has been a great rig for us but we are trying to decide if we should keep it or not. She has started costing us a few bucks ,but that is the price of owning one of these rigs. What I guess I am asking is what is reasonable age to keep a rig. Thanks for the input.

RE: Please wash your hands

That's just freakish! It's hard to imagine how the human race has survived and flourished this long....... :R
I am now at the point when I use a public bathroom 1 - open the door. 2 - wash my hands (I don't know what is on that door knob and I don't want it on me) 3 - use the toilet 4 - wash my hands 5 - leave the bathroom 6 - hand sanitizer.

RE: Laundry Day!

Really?!?!?!? They would have NEVER seen those boots again, if that were the case.
Starknaked, They were drying their boots on my time left. I had gone next door to buy something to drink. It wasn't the young folks who folded them, but a woman who saw them lying on the table, after they threw them there. Thank goodness for her. But I wouldn't expect young folks(in their early 20's) to be considerate as someone older. After all their boots didn't get very clean holding them under water which was dripping off the gutter. Basically they were just getting their boots dryed. I didn't hang around to see them come back.

RE: Extended Warranty

Tell us what you bought for a camper?
I am a new camper owner, taking delivery on June 1, and I need advice about the extended warranty option. The option is for an additional 5 years on everything and is about $1300. Is this worth the money to purchase or are there other options I should consider? Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: Removing old overhead tv/replacing with flat screen

X2 - TWICE! Did the same for both the Living Area and Bedroom TV's and it worked out great! Not difficult at all, but be careful of those old CRT TV's as they can be some heavy!!!!!!!!
When we replaced our analog tv in our overhead cabinet, we just removed the old set, screwed in a solid backing board within the cabinet, and installed a retracting, swivel tv mount for our 32" flatscreen.
