RE: Recalculating

Does anyone make a GPS that has a pause mode? Like when you pull off the highway for gas???
I turn it off just before I exit. Turn it on when I'm back on the highway. Problem solved!Well, that will certainly be easier than muting her... Thanks!

We had one in our '74 Scotty and that is the one big thing that I miss in our "new" camper. ;)
Loved it.

Recalculating

Does anyone make a GPS that has a pause mode? Like when you pull off the highway for gas???
Glenda (our GPS) always has a fit with her recalculations and I've gotten so I mute her before we go off, but that is a hassle - have to hit menu/volume/mute. Should be a pause button.
Another thing, why would a GPS tell you about gas stations that are behind you? It can tell the direction we are going and knows where we're headed, why not tell about gas stations on our route only? I love looking at the arrows pointing in all directions and wondering which stations might be on our actual route.
(We do stop often for gas. ;))
Why are GPSes so technologically unadvanced?

RE: Ugly Encounter at Campground

It is hard to know what to do. While it is not the best thing to escalate a situation sometimes it just blows up. Especially if you are dealing with crazy people.
We were camping and some young people actually climbed the fence behind our site and proceeded to walk thru our site. We did not say anything. Later husband was out working in the bed of the truck which was backed up very close to the trailer. One of the young men proceeded to come thru our site again actually walking walking between the truck and trailer. Husband told him it was a little much and would he please stop. Guy offered to fight him if he didn't like it. He proceeded to continue thru the site and climb the fence to get out.
Later in the afternoon he and a few of his friends reappeared over the fence and thru the site. By this time there had been copious amounts of booze consumed by the group. We chose to not say a word as we did not wish to escalate the issue.
Early in the evening they returned to stand near our trailer and describe us in some fairly colorful language. At this point we contacted the park host who called the sheriff. He came out and figured out who it was; explaining that these folks were a rough crowd and even if he arrested the one that had been the aggressor his buddies would still be there and we would not be safe to stay.
We were advised to pack up and leave while he did a stand-by to watch to be sure we were okay. We ended up spending the night in a hotel parking lot.
I do not feel we were out of line to request that they did not actually walk between our vehicles and we left them alone other than that. But we were still the ones escorted out.
No answer fits all situations.Wow - in this case the bad guys got positive reinforcement. They got the A-okay to do whatever they want. Seems like the whole crew should have been escorted out.

RE: Anyone Bring The Bean Bag Toss Game (Corn Hole) To Camp?

This is was we like to play. Its called "washers". I like it because it takes up little space when packing. Very portable. We can play this game for hours. And it doesnt seem to annoy anyone with the constant "thud" of the beanbags hitting the plywood.
http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p614/Tony_Forde/washers.jpgGood for you for caring! We had some corn hole playing neighbors on our last trip. About 20 feet away from our bedroom windows. Boy, were we glad when they left.
Thud... Yeah!
Thud... Heeheeheeheehee
Thud... Wo-ah!
Thud... po-me-a-nudda will ya hon?
Thud.

RE: Laundry Day!

It seems some details that couldn’t have been forgotten and important to the story were left out of the OP… might have been better to ask the question and leave the story out…
First of all I would have expected the 20 something’s to be as considerate as a older person and I have run to very many that are… I have also seen many situation where some of our older people could learn about consideration from some of the younger ones…
Just the other day at WM while waiting for the DW to come out of the store… a young man in his 20’s and his family on their way to their car followed shortly by a older woman with a cart full of bags of (I think) potting soil going to her car… the young man returned his cart to the store and while returning to his car stopped offered and loaded all the ladies bags into her car then returned her cart to the store… he also noticed a piece of watermelon that fell on the ground and was left there, picked it up and deposited it in the trash can before returning to his waiting family…
We have a lot of promising young people here at the home base CG and I find them encouraging and refreshing… I am more concerned about what us older folks are leaving for them…We are concerned about that too, and we figure one of the things we can do is not shop at Walmart.

RE: Hensley, First Trip Report

That's great to hear! Not that I'm surprised. ;)
It's true that lots of people with Airstreams get Hensleys. Same is true of our trailer. Went to an Award rally last fall and probably half or more of the folks had Hensleys. And it's not that those trailers need more help with stability than others, it's that the owners want the absolute best towing experience possible.
Enjoy. :)

RE: Sometimes financing makes sense

The cherry on top is that the IRS allows me to write off the interest on the RV as a second home.
I sorta think the real cherry on top would be not having enough total deductions to itemize. That would generally mean no debt.

RE: TT for offroad travel

Go hang around in the Truck Camper forum and you'll get hooked. Check out the trip reports especially and you'll see where they go off road!
You also might check out what a member here (profdant139) has. He's got a very small trailer that he takes off road.
Good luck!

RE: Cool Mods

Wow.....39 new posts since I last checked. Must be some neat Mods I need to see........NOPE.:h
And to think, I have to remind my kids how stupid they look when they have an argument on facebook for the whole world to see.:S
I've heard good things about the accumulator below. Never used it or tried it myself. Good Luck and let us know if you do it. Pics are always a good thing.
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/shurflo174-24-oz-accumulator-tank.aspx?a=422840Believe it or not the argument continues for the whole world to see... :R
Anyway - I added the accumulator - it works great. I especially like being able to flush the toilet if I forgot to turn on the pump.
Here's a pic:

RE: Flooded our KZ spree TT please help!!

Insurance company totaled our camper. We can finally move on. thanks!Good deal! :) I wouldn't want it after that either.
What I would like to know is why RVs are made so they can't survive a flooding. It happens.
Ours has had plumbing leaks throughout the years and has survived with quick drying procedures - mainly because the interior cabinets are made of real wood, the floor is marine plywood and there is no fluffy insulation underneath to hold water. We'd be scared to buy a new RV 'cuz stuff happens.
At least this thread has opened some eyes to turn off the water when you leave. We actually have a note stuck up over the door that says "Water OFF?"
OP - keep us up to date on what you replace your TT with!

RE: Photos of my new Jayflight Travel Trailer...

What do you do with all the pillows when you sleep or sit on the couch or dinette? The throw pillows we have in the S&B even get stored till one is needed for a head when lying on the couch.
We're more minimalist/practical and have to admit we have almost zero counter space in our TT.
But - you did a beautiful job of adding color and interest. :)

RE: Holding Tanks

You are in a unique position - you can do what you want. If I was you I would connect your grey water lines to your tank and call it a grey tank. Then get yourself a cassette toilet that has it's own tank with wheels.
