RE: Blue Ridge Highway Camping & Driving

Thanks for all your help. Our concern, and we've seen posted on this forum, that big rigs should stay off the BR Highway. We are wondering how we can get to the campgrounds and stay off the highway. In looking at the maps there are some parallel highways that are close but not always.

Blue Ridge Highway Camping & Driving

We will be in Paducah, KY at the end of April and drive to Charlotte, NC. From there we are going to Washington, DC. Along the way we want to travel and see the Blue Ridge Highway without driving the motorhome & dingy on it very much. We plan to stay in campgrounds and explore it with our tow vehicle. We're having a hard time understanding how that will work. We have requested information from the Blue Ridge Highway Assoc and hopefully we will have a better understanding when we get the materials. Does anyone have any specific helpful comments? Thank you!

RE: Wash DC Tours & Appointments

Thank you everyone. We're going to try through the internet "Book Your Tour Through Your Representative." I don't have much hope.

Wash DC Tours & Appointments

We plan to stay in Cherryhill Park campground, College Park, MD about the middle of May. We were there in 2007 and loved it. Although I tried to book a tour of the White House about 4 months before through our CA Senator D. Feinstein's office it did not happen. It seemed very disorganized to me. This time I want to definately see the White House, a better tour of the Capital (underground facilities) and the FBI tour. What will ensure success? I will have the exact dates of our stay in about 2 weeks and we will be there about 5 days. Thanks, Linda

RE: Trip to Washington DC

4Beach Campers,
I'm from CA also and plan to be in DC in May. Which state rep did you contact? The last time we were there in 2007 I contacted Senator Feinstein's office 6 months early for a white house tour and it was a complete dud. Poor communication and no tickets.

RE: NASCAR Tour next Spring - Need Ideas & Campgrounds

Great websites and campground information. Thanks everyone. The folks on this forum never fail to help. We're stuck at home through tax season so it's fun to have the websites and campgrounds to ponder and plan.

NASCAR Tour next Spring - Need Ideas & Campgrounds

We are planning a trip across country next Spring, probably leave CA mid April and take 2 months. One of our priorities is to tour NASCAR shops and HOFame. I can't find any website that collectively shows what driver shops/museums are open to the public. We would also like campground recommendations and are wondering if there is one centrally located where we could stay for a week or so. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Linda

RE: Ipad 3G Questions

From Apple Support:
"The Verizon iPad will work in Canada if you have international roaming enabled as Canada is one of the 40 countries (including China, Japan and Mexico) that have CDMA networks. Data roaming is expensive, though."
I really don't want ATT in the US because their network isn't as good as Verizon. We'll make do in Canada, ay? Thanks everyone,

RE: Ipad 3G Questions

I ordered my Ipad with Verizon 3G today. My store had ATT models but not Verizon. The sales guy said ATT is better for traveling in Europe because of the sim card issue. I don't plan on taking mine to Europe. I might want to go back to Canada with mine in the RV and we had excellent Verizon service throughout Canada. Verizon has the best coverage.

RE: Ipad 3G Questions

Clint,
We currently use Verizon pay-as-you-go cell service and it's perfect for us. We are not contract subscribers to their network. My understanding from Apple is that when we buy the Ipad we will chose ATT or Verizon because the hardware is different. When we want to activate the Verizon 3G we go to the Verizon website and pre-pay for one month. There will be no connection to our cell service whatsoever.

RE: Ipad 3G Questions

We'll get the 3G model and activate it for long trips but not short ones. A lot of campgrounds have wifi now. Our laptop is kind of a pain to get out and leave set up so the Ipad will be nice...and fun.
What about storage? I don't think we will use more than the 16GB but I don't want to be caught short if new things come out that take more storage. We won't put our photos on it and will use our laptop for documents. Thanks, Linda

RE: Ipad 3G Questions

Thank you. Just what I need to know. We take a long trip every other year and $50 a month would be ok. We like Verizon.

Ipad 3G Questions

How easy is it to turn on and off the Ipad 3G service? What is the minimum amount of time I can buy? Can I use Verizon? Thanks, Oldcarfun

RE: Buying a Pre-Paid Cell from Walmart

Thanks jcpainter, good idea. It's in rice right now.
Meanwhile I called Verizon. Eureka! They have an automated answer to activating a new phone. By dialing *22898 from my new phone they will transfer my phone number and balance of minutes. As it turns out, my grandson has an older phone that is better than any I've ever had. He's happy to give it to grandma. Thanks everyone.

RE: Buying a Pre-Paid Cell from Walmart

We're very happy with Verizon service and the price is right for $100 a year. Good idea No. Virginia about going to the Verizon store so we'll go to the mall this evening.
Meanwhile, has anyone had experience with getting a new prepaid cell from Walmart and connecting your existing telephone number? The sales clerk in Walmart says it works.
