RE: Hammertown, USA

Bessemer Mine Road is down to bedrock, that's why it's so bad. Boone and Camp Rock can be and are graded/maintained. Did you see the "save the hammers" signs? Did you see reference to savethehammers.org??

RE: New truck bed clearance

Just so you have another referance . . . (look at my Sig.) Not sure what you're referring to really. My old truck had no issues (same as yours), new one is much taller. Installing the new shackles tonight.

RE: fresh water tank not filling

You shouldn't need to remove it to get it cleaned, IMHO. I'd go through the process of flushing more. The bleach kills the algae for sure, keep doing it until its clear. The bleach also kills any bacteria. Removing the tank would be a *****! I've been contemplating removing mine to fix a leak but have to drop the axles to get it out so have not done it. Will yours clear the axles? If so there should only be the brackets you see and the fill/vent and the supply line to the pump to disconnect. But it will be pretty heavy.

And when you need ONE weight distribution spring bar to replace a missing one, they'll have it. They'll charge a premium for one bar, but that's no surprise. It's a good shop. Sounds like you have experience with loosing things Dave!

RE: Hammertown, USA

This event will draw over 10,000 people. Hammerking Productions is working with CMRC to help raise money to save Johnson Valley, go to savethehammers.org for more info. Dave Cole has said he can raise 100k this week, let's see how he does. The big races are Thursday and Friday. Thursday is the King of the Motos, first time dirtbikes have been in K.O.H. Jimmy Lewis (Dirt Rider mag.) and Erek Kudla laid out a TOUGH loop for the best in offroad, wish I could be there. Friday is the big buggy race. Don't think there's anything beyond Friday.

RE: New truck bed clearance

Call these guys- Accurate Trailer accuratetrailerhitch.com (661) 251-9234 - 26570 Ruether Ave, Santa Clarita, CA Hands down the very best in the business! They actually supply most of SO CAL (trailer/hitch installers...) with axles, hitches, wheels, bearings... When you see the place it speaks for itself. That's where I got my EZ ride kit, I'll certainly call them, seem first rate. I'm going to take it out this weekend so I can see exactly where it needs to go. Just got the lowering shackles and need to see how they are going to fit; hoping this works as the stink bug look of the truck and the huge volume above the rear wheels is stupid as well. This weekend is just a short trip up Stephens Mine road so no big dips other than gas stations and I'm good enough for that.

RE: New truck bed clearance

I'm waiting on the new shackles to lower the rear. I raised the hitch so it's now on the highest position and the pin box is on the lowest. I did not reconnect but this should give me just shy of 7" over the bed rails but I'm sure I'll be nose high now by quite a bit. Going to the desert this weekend, maiden voyage with the new truck. I'm pretty convinced an axle flip is in my future.

RE: New truck bed clearance

I have two heavy duty jack stands and two high reach floor jacks at work but I don't have a concrete driveway and my asphalt one is certainly not flat/level, that's the part that scares me the most. Plus a friend's father-in-law died when his motorhome fell on him while under it and it was cribbed up on cross stacked 2x4's; that always sticks in my mind. Thats why the $350 OTD for mine was a good choice. I got plenty to do without that job and it doesn't sound like a lot of fun. Assume you got yours done in the Bako area? Little too far for me to go. Guess I'll call around. For that price I wouldn't hesitate. And you say it pulls just as well as before? You're a little longer than me but just about the same rig.

RE: OUCH$$$ Fuel station pump

Think I'd stay away from that dealer unless you like a light feeling wallet. YEP!

RE: New truck bed clearance

I would hope I have 6k or more, GVW is 13k. I'll get the axle info. this weekend. Not sure I want to tackle this one myself. Something about jacking up my beast and getting under it in my driveway is not the most comforting thought. I checked with a good fab/hitch shop in Glendale that's been there forever. They quoted me $600.00 over the phone, that sound like a decent price? Sounds fair to me.

RE: Oregon Toys, and riding...

Good information for travelers to Oregon wishing to ATV with kids. Personally, I think if the training includes some stay on the trail/TreadLightly! education, then I'm in total agreement! I'll echo both sentiments. Thank you for the info.

RE: New truck bed clearance

Mine isn't a toy hauler, but axle flip worked the best for me. No towing issues at all, with 7 1/2 inches of clearance. Trailer sets level when hitched to the truck. I used a kit from Dexter axle. Took me and my brother about 3 hours to install. I checked out Dexter's site and found the kit (K71-385-00). I assume you have to weld on the perches correct? That would also give me enough clearance to get my fresh water tank out too I think. I'll see what the lowering kit gives me and go from there. Thanks for the suggestions.

RE: Looking to buy our first toy hauler.

I saw a 2008 sandpiper 32 ft 8000lbs dry 14000 lbs max Would this be a good match for my truck? That sounds like a good start but using the 25% rule you'd be way over the pin wt. if you maxed it out. My BIL has the same truck as you, long bed 2wd with the gasser. He has a 28' Wanderer and it's fine, way lighter than he can go and much lighter than mine, I've pulled his and really notice the difference.

RE: GPS

Can't comment on the Oregon. I replaced my etrex with the 76CSX. It comes on sale at West Marine a few times a year for 179.95. That's when I snagged mine. The 76 and 60 are the most popular amongst the D37 Dual Sport crowd. Since it has a memory card you can store a TON of tracks/waypoints whereas the etrex is limited. What is it that you want to do with it?

RE: New truck bed clearance

Went ahead and ordered some 2" dropped shackles. For $111.00 delivered it's worth a try. I'll install them, then take up the hitch to the next hole, that should keep it about where it is now but with an additional inch of bed clearance. If it doesn't work then I guess its an axle flip, UGGHHH!

RE: GPS

the etrex is a good starter unit for sure. You'll have fun with it. I sold it to a club member a while back and he's still figuring out how to use it!

RE: New truck bed clearance

Don, There are numerous ways to get this sorted out. When considering all the options remember how GM has become in dealing with any aftermarket mods. Anything that involves modification to suspension and potentially impacting driveline angles could become a sticking point with your Dealer. Trailer doesn't have a warranty to consider. Just a little food for thought. Yes, I am kind of a suspension purist. My expectations are a good, calm ride, truck, trailer and dirt scoot. Good points for sure.
