RE: Meet Duncan

What a handsome little man...I'm so glad he was given that second chance....it would have been a shame if he wasn't around to make people smile....

RE: Pet treats causing deaths

I am always surprised when reputable companies...like Presidents Choice..run all kinds of promotions touting the careful formulation their products have with our pets in mind and then you turn the package over in small print are the words no one wants to see " Made in China " For treats I use carrots a lot for 2 of my chihuahuas and Bella, who must have pureed, gets a wee amount of low fat Cheezwhiz.....

RE: Do you really love your Dog? Good food vs cheap food.

2 of my chihuahuas are on No Grains Buffalo and do very well..the third is on a homemade puree d/t her MegaEsophagus...Bella (on the puree) would love to get some of the NG buffalo and the other 2 try their darnedest to get some of her puree....the old "grass is always greener " situation ! I would feed them all home made if it wasn't for the time factor...its tricky to make sure all of the nutrition needs are being met and with their different weights it would just be too much for me with all time needed for the eye gtts, meds etc....I work full time and luckily can pop into the house anytime to give the meds... gtts etc or give Bella her chest physio ..

RE: Speaking of vet questions.... update with pictures

Foxy (brown/white) is a rat terrier, I'm told. Chip appears to be some sort of collection of spare parts, with his head and a lot of his disposition coming from his "chihuahua side ". http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i362/nabelia/chi-kiss.gif you must be meaning his loving disposition right ? http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i362/nabelia/hihi.gif :B:B I admire you for being able to take these poor souls in and saving them from the fate of last day termination...I could not do what you do...I am only able to give donations...thankfully there are people like you who can actually do the hard work and save these precious babes.... Zari is home post op ( pics not for the faint hearted )

She had quite a rough day yesterday...she stayed in hospital on a morphine drip and IV fluids...she was very swollen and they were quite concerned...but she is a trooper ...the edema is down, she ate some breakfast and wanted out of there ! Her pre-op bloods showed an elevation in her BUN ( hopefully from dehydration ) but they felt the surgery needed to proceed as her eye had increased in size again....at this point I do not see any problems with the vision in the right eye... Thanks for all the prayers and positive thoughts...I am a firm believer .... http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i362/nabelia/021.jpg http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i362/nabelia/015.jpg

RE: Zari is having surgery...

Thanks everyone...Zari is a trooper and I expect she will do just fine...we have known for a long time this day would come but you always hope it won`t...she has PPM in her sighted eye so its important to protect it...she will be having positive thoughts and prayers being sent and said for her from all around the world ( you gotta love the internet ) and in having a very skilled surgeon I think she is in the best of hands .... http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i362/nabelia/IMG_0479-1.jpg Zari on holiday last fall...enjoying the sun on Manitoulin Island

Zari is having surgery...

We went to the ophthalmologist today....the hyphema was clearing but her pressures were up...since the eye is non-visual Dr West recommended we have it removed...she had to have some eye lashes removed from her visual eye and that cornea was very dry.......so on Feb 3 she will have left eye enucleation ...please keep her in your thoughts and prayers....

RE: Does your furry friend sleep in your bed?

I used to have medium and large sized dogs. But my question relates to those who have the mini dogs like Yorkies and that size. Do you worry about turning over on them in the night and doing harm to them? Are they fast enough to get out of the way in that instance. I would wonder about that if they are under the covers. Frank Believe me...they know how to move so they don't get hurt...actually I think they train us to stop moving..:) Out of my three...2 dive under the covers for the night and one likes to be on top of our covers with her own blanket over her...their weights are 4lbs 5lbs and 7 lbs....

RE: Does your furry friend sleep in your bed?

all 3 chihuahuas are in bed with us...at home we have a king size bed so there is a bit of room for hubby and me...but in the RV...its a double and hubby and I are very cramped...the wees on the other hand, sleep like babies :B we are on the hunt for a new RV ( well new to us ) and the main thing we require is a bigger bed !

RE: Annie has a new home

That is just the best story...love it.... years ago I was a charge nurse on the 3-11 shift in a nursing home...the vast majority of our patients were elderly psychiatric men and women who had spent most of their lives in a mental hospital and were released to nursing homes in their " golden " years...no family....no familiarity with staff or surroundings etc....I had a doberman named Gus and a terri-poo named Alice...I would take them into work at 230 pm and my husband would come and pick them up around 7 pm....even the most reclusive patient would watch the dogs walking around and visiting...patients would make appointment times to have the dog(s) in their room for one on one time....even though I was very firm about no treats...there was always cooky crumbs all around the dogs ....I think they use to stash treats away for the visiting days ...my dogs gave many people something to look forward too at least once a week....and for that nursing home to have a resident dog will do more for the cognitive status of those patients than any meds etc....
