RE: Cape Cod

X2 on sweetwater. If she likes Horses its also is a horse ranch. The sites have some nice space between them and there is a nice pond there. We go there each spring!

RE: Installing the superglide 18k on Sunday.

Don't use greese on the rails. Its very messy. Go to tractor supply and pick up a can of slip plate( it might have another name). Its a dry graphite spray that works so much better than the greese.

RE: truck modifications

Depending on the pin weight you might "want" not need a set of rear airbags. It will make it ride better down the road. Not all of them are built the same. My suggestion is pacbrake. I have a SRW 3500 and my montana always put my truck on the overloads. The airbags helped get the back up off them and helped with the dips and bumps going down the hiway. I am sure you will have a wonderful time with it! Happy trails....

RE: Any TC Haulers with a Dodge Ram Truck????????????

I got 65K out of my OEM ball joints and they may have had another 5-8 k in them, but they were showing signs of wear so I did alot of research on the subject and came to the same conclusion as many have here. The OEM ball joint are junk. If you plan to use the truck for a long time then I would suggest a ball joint made from Carli suspensions. They make a ball joint that has a life time warrenty! Yes, i said lifetime! Yes, they cost alot of money, but if you plan to keep the truck they are worth the investment. I put mine on 15K ago and it returned my truck to how it handled on day one. You do have to greese them (greese supplied in the kit) every 5K miles, but look how they R&D there product. I know I am not going to jump my truck or use it for a chase vehicle in the baja 5000!

RE: CT to MT best route?

I have traveled it several times when I was in the service stationed at Ft Lewis WA. I would drive I-90 pretty much all the way. If you are worried about Chicago, you can drive around it or plan your trip so you don't drive threw it during rush hour traffic. When I did the trip and I knew I was going to hit rush hour traffic, I would stay on I80 longer and then get off at I39 North and it would go around the city. It is more driving, but worth it not to have to drive threw that crazy city....

RE: Air Bag comparisons

X2 on the pacbrake. Superior product, better warrenty, and mine have held up very well in the Northeast with the salt.

RE: 2005 Ram 2500 5.9 upgrades

If you plan on keeping this truck for a while I would suggest a airdog II/ or FASS to help your lift pump along for future damage. Depending on the miles of the truck you will have to replace ball joints in the future. Do not replace with factory ones. They are junk and you will just end up replacing them again down the road. Get ones that have a greese fitting or Carli suspension ball joints. They are warrentied for life even against abuse. Yes they are alot of money, but you replace them once and if they ever wear, they send you new ones. They stand behind there products! X5 on the Smarty JR. It has made a world of difference in how the truck preformes. I get better fuel mileage and lower EGT's while towing. I don't go crazy with the power either. Air bags will help alot with the ride comfort of the 5th wheel especially on large bumps. An exhaust brake is a huge plus with helping slow the load down and extending the life of the brakes on the truck. I recommend Pacbrake as it is much better than the jacobs brake. Its my next upgrade! There is a new track bar for the front end of the truck that will help with geometry issues with the old system and prevent death wobble if you put larger tires or lift in the truck. You don't have to worry about your transmission (48re). They hold up very well and you don't have to worry about them as long as you are not over heating them and changing fluids and filter. Guages to watch your EGT's, transmission, and boost are very helpful too. Upgrading the stock transmission are always a plus, but its big $$$$. I say don't fix it untill it breaks. I hope this helps you and gives you alot of reading in researching the items I have spoken about. Stay safe and I wish you happy camping!

RE: Options for a new TV

Here is my 2 cents worth. The sliding rear window is nice for bring air in the cab (suggest power open if its a option). Some truck campers have a window in them to access threw. I like mine (non power) because in the winter/hunting season I put a cap on the truck and can access the back of the bed. High idle is great for warming up the truck in the morning when its super cold like it is here in MA. in the winter. Gears for a truck are based on how hard you are working the truck. 3.73 is going to give you better fuel milage but slower take off. 4.10 is for a truck that is going to be worked and worked hard and just used for work/towing. If the vehicle is going to diesel and used just for camping then make sure you are not over the max GVWR of the vehicle. 4K is alot of weight to move and stop. Do your research and make sure you are being safe and getting enough truck. Clearance lights should not interfear with the truck camper. If they do you could always put a sheet of plywood on your bed to raise the camper up more. I am not sure about the dual alternaters. I would "assume" they would help recharge the batterys, but if you are going to be doing alot of dry camping I suggest a good inverter generator like a honda EU2000i or a yamaha. I hope I have helped you! Happy Camping.....

RE: 2005 Montana specs

I have a 02 2880RL and I tow it with a Dodge 3500 SRW diesel. I can tell you that he is overloaded and that 6.0 gas engine is going to be working overtime. I am going to guess he will be lucky if he gets 8 mpg. Airbags are going to be a must.....

RE: wheels

Also check the load rating on the wheel/rim itself. Not all of them are very strong. They are made to look good, but thats it!
