RE: Battery

Not using furnace...roughing it out! Haha.
I have a Honda eu1000i and found out a bit ago battery checked out fine!
No space for second battery.
Might make it to Sheridan WY tomorrow. Hopefully an RV dealer can be found, if necessary.
Sigh.
How warm is the thermostat overnight? Put it down closer to 60-65 (or less) (or off)
The 7155 is a slow charging converter. What generator do you have?
You should make it with one group 27 but you need a better charging system.
Consider getting a 20 to 40 amp portable charger and if there is space for a second battery get it.

RE: Battery

OP here. I am on my way to Alaska with 5 other women (the traveling widows!) we each have our own rigs.
I need to know what caused the drain so quickly. It's a group27 deep cycle marine just purchased 2 months ago. I did not use lights at all. Just what I said in first post and the realized the radio had that bright blue glow all night even though it wasn't on.
I would like to know what to look for that could be causing such a drain.
I is a Parallelax 7155.

Battery

MY BRAND NEW battery did not make it through its first night of dry camping! One of us is having battery issues so we checked it with my meter. I thought I would check mine...fully charged at 12.6 or 12.7 late yesterday afternoon.
Fridge is on propane. Ran the maxxfan about an hour during the day. Used the pump maybe 90 seconds.
This morning at 6:00, was 10.5. I ran the generator for about 30minutes and it is now at 11.64.
Any words of wisdom? This does not bode well for a week of dry camping at Denal, she said with a sad face....

RE: Who grinds your coffee beans...........

It was the main reason I put in a little 400 watt converter in a handy spot. Fresh beans ground daily even while camping.
1/8th cup of full roast beans for every two cups on the coffee pot. We each have our special mugs, and ten cups on the pot gives us two mugs each without waste.
Think a 200W inverter will power my little 160W Krups grinder? I don't know the "max" of the inverter - hasn't arrived yet from Amazon.

Sunny Side Up Breakfast Casserole

My friend made this for me a couple of months ago when she came to "pamper" me while I was busy with my husband dying.
I though I'd share. It's different in that the "sauce" is sour cream and mustard. The whole thing is delicious and I plan to make a smaller version to fit in my #8 DO when I head to Alaska in a few weeks. Enjoy!
Sunnyside Up Breakfast Casserole
1# Breakfast sausage
1 C. cheese flavored croutons
2 C. (8 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese, divided
¾ C. sour cream
1 T. dijon style mustard
8 eggs
Paprika for garnish
Preheat over to 325.
Over medium heat, brown sausage. Drain drippings. Set aside. Grease bottom of 7” x 11” glass baking baking dish. Cover bottom with coarsely crumbled croutons and sprinkle with 1 C. shredded chese.
In small bowl, combine sour cream and mustard. Place half of sour cream mixture over cheese and croutons in evenly spaced spoonfuls.
Spread sausage over top. Make eight evenly spaced shallow indentations into the sausage (about 2” in diameter). Break each egg separately into a small dish and gently slide one egg into each of the indentations. Spoon on remaining sour cream mixture betwwen the eggs. Sprinkle casserole with 1 C. cheddar and paprika. Bake 20-25 minutes until eggs are lightly set. Serve with salsa if desired. Serves 8. Refrigerate leftovers.

RE: Another Hot Water Tank OR Pump Problem

OP HERE:
I was so frustrated, I just told myself to start from scratch...
I emptied the fresh tank and pulled the low point drains. I pulled the anode rod. Then I hooked up to city water (well, it's country water where I live, and better than any ol' city water I ever drank. Except Chicago and their Lake Michigan Water) (Oh, just get to the point, Mitch) (I can't - I'm too excited about going to Alaska).
Took forever for the hot water tank to fill up. Then I filled up the holding tank, and removed city water hose. No go! Grrrrrr...
I went outside and pressed the overflow valve on the water heater. VOILA - I have plain ol' noisy water pump with no "something's gotta be wrong" pounding!! I'm going back out in a little bit and try it again.
The early bird gets the worm. Oh, wait, that doesn't apply here. Okay - it's slow and steady wins the race.
Thank you, everyone, for your help!!
ON EDIT: Nope, same problem!

RE: Another Hot Water Tank OR Pump Problem

I would guess that there is probably just some air still in the system on the hot side. Just go open all of the hot valves one at a time and see if the loud thumping goes away.
X2
OP HERE.
Just did that. Did not fix the problem. I'm going in for a nap. Sigh. Thanks for the suggestions...one of 'em will work!

RE: Another Hot Water Tank OR Pump Problem

Several questions:
1. Is the problem consistant with the other fixtures?
2. Do you get hot water when the faucet is open?
3. Do you have the problem connected to city water instead of the pump?
My initial response was to check the hot water bypass, and the anti-freeze adder kit. Either of these could be open creating the issue. If air is being introduced there is most likely a leak somewhere on the suction of the pump (ie: anti freeze adder kit valve open which is sucking in air)
OP HERE.
1. It's consistent with all 3 hot water faucets (sink, shower, outside shower).
2. Yes (checked that yesterday)
3) No, I'm using the pump and fresh water tank. I have not tried to see what happens on city water and pump off. I will do that in a couple hours (I'm on my way out to get The Beast her annual Vet-Check).
The short anti-freeze hose is the only hose connector down by the pump that is corroded, and it's pretty badly corroded. That valve is in the OFF position. And I just put some Gorilla tape over the end of the short hose (just in case. In case what, I don't know...)

RE: Another Hot Water Tank OR Pump Problem

Sounds like you might have the bypass valves out of sync, if you have a bypass system setup on your HW tank?
Mitch
OP HERE
Yes, there's a short hose I use to pump in the pink stuff. The really puzzling part is that it's ONLY on the hot water side. When the cold water tap is open, the pump makes its normal noise.

Another Hot Water Tank OR Pump Problem

I have rarely used my hot water tank; just fired 'er up a few times to see if she works.
So, I'm preparing for AK. Here's what's going on:
When the cold water is on at the sink, the pump makes its NORMAL annoying noise.
When the hot water is turned on (cold off), the pump makes this horrible rhythmical pounding noise
(can listen here: http://georgeandmichelle.com/alaska.html
IF I turn on the cold water while the hot is on (and pounding), the pounding stops and it becomes a regular pump noise.
I have purged air out of hot water tank twice. I have opened all the faucets, though not at the same time.
If I can't get it fixed, I'll have to drag it back to the shop, which I just visited a few days ago to have a new kitchen faucet installed.
Any thoughts?

RE: 12V Stuff Just "Clicking" ? ? ? :(

Well, DUH on me - I had the battery plunger "off"...all seems to be working just fine now!!
But I know you would have come up with the right answer. I found it here by searching "12 volt not working"...

12V Stuff Just "Clicking" ? ? ? :(

So, I plugged in my little 2008 X160 Fun Finder, after having brought it to the house today. Took a couple of minutes to let the surge protector reset. Microwave is working
12V things are “clicking” in rhythm – indicator light on fridge, Maxxair Fan, CO alarm, and no reading from the little gadget I bought that measuress 12v voltage when plugged into the cigarette lighter hole.
WTF? I put the multi meter to the BRAND NEW Group 27 battery, which I have kept on the BRAND NEW trickle charger and it was fine - 13V+.
H E L P or do I just take the little monster to the shop????
Thanks for your help!
A Sad New Widow Who Is Trying To Get Ready To Go To Alaska :(a
PS: I didn't try the overhead lights. I'll go do that now.a
ON EDIT: No overhead lights. I have pulled the 2 x 30A fuses to make the clicking stop. Another thing that you might need to know - I had removed the new battery the day I had it installed and put it on a trickle charger in the garage. ? ? ?

RE: Cell Phone

I am also driving to Alaska this Spring.
I plan to pick up this very reasonable cell phone as soon as I can find a Petro Canada station. I'll use it mostly for emergencies and calling to campgrounds, etc.

RE: The Ranger said...

Prior to being old fart, I purchased the America the Beautiful year pass. It saved a lot of money.
When camping in one of the agencies' sites that are covered with the America the Beautiful pass, are both camping fees and entrance fees charged? And this pass would only cover the entrance fee?
Thanks.

RE: Canceled my Caravan trip, Going on my own!

Good for you! We are going on our own too. About the middle of March we should get a headcount or "road call" to see how many Forum members will be going and some identifying characteristics (assuming you want to be identified). We plan to leave the first week of June from Western NC. lizzie

Exceeding Rim Recommended Max PSI

If my aluminum wheels are rated for 60 PSI, would I be safe putting on replacement tires with an inflation of 65 PSI (same size, 14", as originals)?
Thanks for your input.
