RE: Starting the Solar Power System

No apologies needed LOTB! I wanted to make sure I understood that post more than anything. :) That's good info to know. Thanks.

We need to stop playing the Lifeline card.
HTH;
JohnI'm not playing cards. That info is backed up by the expert you pissed off plus some other sources. You know what? F it! I'm done with you too.

RE: Starting the Solar Power System

AGM conditioning, on the other hand, requires the proper equipment and knowledge to use it properly.
Wouldn't an MPPT controller be a proper equipment ;) ?If it has that AGM conditioning function or something like it. Thing is Lifeline wants it done for something like 4 hours (don't remember exactly).

RE: Starting the Solar Power System

I think this means that I will need to incorporate a transfer switch into the design. The datasheet for the MS series says two 30A legs. See HERE.

RE: Starting the Solar Power System

Not discounting AGM, they were high on my list when I was looking at batteries. I find flooded easier to maintain cause all I have to do is stick a hydrometer in there and I instantly know my state of charge (SOC). All that's required is an eye for safety. Nothing difficult at all. AGM conditioning, on the other hand, requires the proper equipment and knowledge to use it properly. Magnum DOES make this process simpler somewhat (you have to do some research to find the conditioning requirements for your AGM's, if any, then change the AGM setting to Lifeline to get access to the conditioning portion) but not everyone has upwards of $2000 to spend on proper equipment even those that have the money for AGM's.

RE: MFGR Battery charging specs

Yes, I do appreciate Mex and all you guys. I did take offense to part of his post. His post did not need that first sentence. I didn't read it that way. You said "stupid simple" and I took his comment to mean nothing you said was stupid. Confusion on both your parts IMO.

RE: Could I fit a 'mobile' generator into a DP?

Measure the compartment
get a 6500watt Honda inverter genset
open the drawer / compartment while running the genset
cannot use portable in closed compartment while drivingX2

RE: MFGR Battery charging specs

Well, it appears to be important to you. Since you have all this fancy equipment to measure Amps and such, how about you run a 90W light with an inverter and tell me how far off from 9A I am?
I have no issue with your obsession with accuracy. It is just not right for everyone.I agree and that's what Mex was getting at with the "not important to you" comment. He knows this as well as others. Maybe you don't appreciate it but welcome folks like Mex that freely share their wisdom with others. I'm probably totally wrong here in which case I do apologize.

I am usually looking for hookups if the air needs to be running 24/7.Same here.

RE: two generators or one?

When I am running the generator, are you saying that the inverter will help with the starting of the air conditioners? I didn't think that the inverter was hooked up the the air conditioner circuit. That version of the Magnum inverter that PT is talking about hasn't been released yet.

RE: two generators or one?

I would look to a single 2000 and a Victron Multiplus inverter to pick up the surge or other short term loads as needed.I really wonder how well this would work. Wouldn't the 2000 be running at max anyways?

All my wiring is from them. Great stuff and great customer service! Even their 4/0 is pretty flexible.

RE: Battery

If you are going to be dry camping you really need to consider purchasing and learning to use a clamp-on Ammeter to check your parasitic current draw and charging current. Knowing the battery voltage is only half of the information you need to manage your 12V system. Sears carries a nice DC clamp-on that should work well.
DickX2, these things are invaluable.

Without them providing what gauge wire that cord is, it's hard to say if there will be an issue or not.

RE: Battery: Checking specific gravity

I pretty much go by what Trojan says and I haven't had any spillage yet (live on a dirt road). I'm not sure about the brass but if that's the only one that's corroding, I'd change that out.
