RE: Average Daily Camp Rate

Wow. Being a lurker pays off. I didn't know about the New Mexico yearly pass (but is it only for residents? Nina didn't say). This advantage would cause me to spend more time (spelled money) there. We crossed it last summer and wished we had a month to spend in that state alone. It has everything we are looking for in a Western trip.

RE: Digital television...

I had Direct for about 4 years, now Dish for the last 6 years and am very happy with it. But it often occurs to me that $86 per month would look pretty good in a savings account (or Apple stock) after a year, let alone 10 years.
I'm looking for an alternative. Now if I, couch potato-fill up the dvr fast guy, am thinking this way, how many others have completely given up? I know a dozen families, ages 30-70 who either don't have a tv or get by now on one or two channels. This is lost advertising dollars. And since tv is all about advertising dollars, why isn't someone who is in a position to do something, doing something?
Just my 2 cents worth,

RE: new honda eu2000i generator

Sad to say that it's that time of the year here in the Midworst to worry about generators. I'm stuck here again with a like generator in the garage. I'm wondering what I have to do to feed it into the house and run a few things should the worst occur, like ice. I figure I'll get a hunk of 12-3 wire and put 2 male plugs on it, then I can simply plug one end into an outside socket whilst the generator runs on the deck. Of course, I'll put a big sign on my meter box for the serviceman to see that it's live.
My question is, what can I expect to run with the Honda 2000? How about 2 of them?
I have electric heat. I'd like to have it, a refrig and a light or two. Will 4000 watts do it? Don't know the wattage needed.
Thanks.

RE: Digital television...

I don't know the particulars but this movement was started several years ago. As with various bills concerning pharmacy, insurance, banking, it was probably put in place to spur growth (spelled padthepockets) of the tv industry. Sharpness
is the big advantage. But there are another half dozen disadvantages. I too had to bite the bullet and go to a 42" plasma for $1000. Now it costs $600 for the same tv. My mother-in-law opted for the converter box with horrible results. I'm trying to watch it now. Whoever voted for this conversion bill deserves a large boot up the behind.

RE: What Credit Card do you use?

Chase.
Cash rewards of 1% which, if you run your bills thru it (helps me pay bills when on the road) and pay it off every month (zero interest), then you can get checks for a few hundred every year. I just cashed $240 in rewards checks. I don't care what the interest rate or my limit is. But I carry zero balance. Very important to do this.

RE: Forest service campgrounds

If they are common, it's news to me. I was very surprised and put off this summer at Lake Powell (Page). The Fed. campground didn't allow deductions for the full hookups ($38 I think), but did for the tent/no hookup sites. I wonder if a lot of complaining would change this?

RE: Is there a small tent trailer with a heater?

I pulled a good sized pu with my old Toyota 4wd. No problems but my mileage dropped from 18 to 13 in the Tenn. mountains. I use/d a small electric heaters when I had electricity. Never used the cats, but it sounds good.

RE: If you boondock a lot, how do you get your mail forwarded?

I take all important phone numbers with me in case I need to get an update on a bill that may be sent while I am away.
And I have all my bills either charged to my visa card (1% cash back) or they are taken directly out of my checking account. This leaves junk mail and magazines that I won't see till I get home.
My retirement is already on direct deposit.
This has worked for a 32 day vacation so far. Now, I'm going away for 60 days. We'll see how it works then.

RE: ford's ecoboost 150

$4000? That's a lot of gas. It would take me a long time to justify the trade. Just goes to show, it cost a lot of money to save gas :} Better get the calculator out.

ford's ecoboost 150

My unit weighs about a ton wet. Would the new Ford F150 ecoboost handle it? It's now on an HD2500 supergashog.

RE: Which pop up would you pick?

I prefer Jayco also. That being said, on my last pu purchase, Jayco didn't have a table that my wife liked so we bought a Starcraft. Big mistake. Next time, I'll buy a nice used one. That way, I can see how it has stood up to the rough highways.
