RE: OOOPS, it happened again

I also have a 2004 duramax diesel., how does one get air in the system when refueling? Heck if I know. I did find the screw at the bottom of the fuel filter slightly loose, but not enough to be leaking. The thread of the bleed screw on top of the filter appears to be slightly stripped also but that was not leaking either. I still need to put some thread sealer on that. I tried changing tanks AFTER the engine failed. The trick was to keep cranking the engine till the air was sucked through. I did not lay into the starter long enough. Lesson learned. We have been almost 1000 miles since the incident. Bleeding instructions are in the Owners Manual Duramax Supplement. Get a new bleed screw if the stock plastic one is stripped. This could be the root problem of the crank but no start related to air in fuel. Aftermarket options abound. Try Mechant Automotive Alum bleeder screw

RE: GM Integrated Brake Controller Question

the GM ibc will not work with the electric over hydraullic brakes. It only works for electric brakes. You will have to add a aftermarket brake controller. What brand of Electric/hydraulic pump do you have? There are work arounds to solve the problem. Some searching on the Dieselplace.com will net the answers on how to accomplish a work around...Your local GM dealer won't know how -as it is a mod to the trailer wiring.

RE: It happened again!

Get a Markal Paint Stick and paint the jaws brite yellow so you can easily check for proper position after hitching -day or nite. Four things make sure it won't fall. 1. Proper hitch procedure with handle movement in/out 2. physically engage the safety latch/plate 3. Pull test against wheel chocks/trailer brakes before fully lifting landing gear 4. visual check of jaws Any of these fail/not right -don't move the truck until resolved. Using a check list helps remember all these things. If you have a smartphone -there is an app for a RV checklist that can be customized.

RE: Limp Mode Problem on Duramax LMM

What codes.... There are several short pieces of hose on the fuel lines both intake and return that can collapse with age/biodiesel usage that cause intermitten fuel supply problems. This and making sure the fuel filter is clean/new would be a real basic starting point. Taking the "tuner" off and checking for the same symptoms would be a good item too. Beyond that it is just a "wag" without more factual data. The Dieselplace is a better resource, too.

RE: GVWR for Voltage 3905

Thanks for the input. My tires are E rated for about 3700 lbs. each. The dealer rep told me that the 19k GVWR does not include the weight on the hitch. If I understood him right that means that the trailer can weigh as much as 19k while hitched to the truck. That makes sense in one way as the weight on the axles while hitched should be less than the weight of the trailer alone. On the other hand that means the trailers weight could far exceed the 19k lb GVWR and the 21k hitch and axle rating. I agree that one should not push the limits. Now if I could convince my DW to toss some of the "stuff" she thinks we need then I would be much lighter. Recent weight with two full dress Harley's (about 900 lbs each) all our full time stuff (clothing, food, bedding, etc) and about 100 gallons of water came to 20,820 lbs. Dropping the water would get me to about 20k so i need to get ride of some more stuff. Trailer GVWR includes hitch and axle weights. Go look at the Federal Certification Label on the left hand sidewall near the front. It will list the Axle Rating (GAWR), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and the minimum tire capacity required as manufactured. But, really need to take it one step farthur to insure no individual tire is overloaded on a multi-slide trailer and or toy hauler due to loading variables. This step is a complete weighing job "as loaded" for a typical trip. That means fuel, food, water, LPG, batteries and any stuff normally taken. This Bridgestone PDF form is a great tool to have on hand to get all data needed to be an informed RV operator. http://www.trucktires.com/bridgestone/us_eng/press/zip/WeighForm.pdf This Bridgestone Page is a great tire resource for all of us... http://www.bridgestonetrucktires.com/us_eng/rv/index.asp

RE: Soliciting actual experiences w/ flatbeds & weigh stations

Registration is a lot more leniant in Washington. Flatbed or box doen't matter. What matters is licensed GVWR. Not the Federal door pillar GVWR rating certification -the actual number you pay licensing for. From memory -12K licensing makes you subject to scale but a search of the Revised Code of Washington is needed by the OP to verify legality. 10K license and above or a vehicle with trailer is not able to use HOT lanes or HOV lanes legally, either but many do ....

RE: Opinions on Al-KO torsion axles

They work very, very well but like anything else, will eventually wear out in the form of sagging. This takes many years though and the added performance of having fully independent suspension would be worth it IMO. Thanks for the info folks. When they wear out, can you rebuild or otherwise service them? No on the Al-Ko or Dexter. Not sure but think not on the Henschen Dura Torque. When they sag or wheel tracking becomes a problem -you replace.

RE: TowMaxx tires:((((

I thought Costco wouldn't put tires on a trailer though? I've been looking at the Duravis R250. I think that's where I'm headed. I'm not sure what chain sells them though. Discount and Belle don't list them. Discount/Americas Tire can get them in a week or less. Not in their computer usually because they don't sell many of these commercial tires. Get a price from your local Costco and Discount will match it. If you pull in the snow consider the Bridgestone M895 as it has a all season rated tread that is still very good for trailer use with closed shoulder and a 5 rib design.

RE: Pop Rivet vs Screw..Which is stronger in aluminum?

I would think about using Plusnuts Designed for use in thin metal/plastics and are a very easy install using a bolt, nut and washers -- no need to buy a special tool Good website. Used these, plusnut, for years on high stress things like cargo van extended mirror installs.

RE: 8D size industrial 12 volt battery.

6v will be better bang for buck but the 8D Deep Cycle will support heavy inverter use better. A starting battery is a poor idea in 8D High quality 8D http://dynobattery.com/Spec8D.pdf

RE: Rewiring brake system

Yes -home run allows elimination of a single brake under a problem with retention of the balance of brakes. Daisy chain does not. Go to page 7 of this pdf file for Dexter's wiring gauge recommendations. http://dexteraxle.com/i/u/6149609/f/6-8K_Service_Manual_1-12/Electric_Brakes_1-12.pdf

RE: Please delete

I keep trying to insert a pic but it will not accept it. See if this FAQ helps: Posting Pictures Do you know the URL for the picture you're trying to post? No insertin any type of media -document, picture or video. You only can link to a "hosted" location that serves the media. The instructions linked are pretty good.

RE: Please delete

I can see where the particle board under the rubber roof has swelled some on on side/corner and was wondering if I need to remove the whole side trim to reseal it? and what would I use? I keep trying to insert a pic but it will not accept it. If the wood is swelling -it needs removed and replaced. Use a polyurethane based caulk for sealant. Depending on which sealant is used -bonding type or not, may need to use butyl tape or doubleside eternabond under trim. Use sealant on all screws. Tend to think that potentially you can peel back the membrane enough to repair then use Eternabond sheet to patch membrane. There is a great thread on a roof repair done to a Weekend Warrior trailer over at Glamis Dunes.com. You have to register to see pictures.

RE: Question! 6 - 8lug 16" wheels

I agree that something doesn't sound right here. 6 lug wheels, IIRC only go up to about 3100 pounds. So they only cover up to 6K axles. Some 6K axles come with 8 lugs as an option. Once you get to 7K axles, it is strictly 8 lugs. The OP may need to get new drums and new wheels both. Not true Al_Ko will spec a 6 lug 7K axle. It is derated of course from maximum. These were common in RV's before the axle regs changed in 2008. Can you say cheap component cost......

RE: Question! 6 - 8lug 16" wheels

Not sure how all of you came to the conclusion that 16" 6 on 5.5 wheels are not available for the G614 tire. A GreenBall Corp offering is available in white or chrome that handles 3760#. WS1606MC = Chrome WS1606MW = White http://www.greenball.com/products.php?products_id=87 These wheels can be ordered from your local Discount/Americas Tire but make sure you have the part number in hand....They may even sell direct with a phone call. To the op -brake drums with 8 lug can be retro fitted but the outer bearing is different than the 6 lug hub/drum. Make sure you pull a drum to id seal dimensions -there are several in these size axles. It is cheaper to buy the wheels....than change drums.

RE: XPS tire size

235 Ribs will fit just fine. You are comparing ST tire size to LT tire size, apples to oranges. Get the 235, you will love them. Lincster, are you saying ST and LT tires sizes are different even if they have the same exact numbers?? Measure your axle center to axle center dimension. If about 33" -probably not enough room for LT235/85R16 tires. If 35" no problem. But another issue for you is axle capacity/rating -isn't the 302 a tandem axle unit with 2 x 6750 or 7000 axles? XPS Ribs or R250/M895 are no good for 7K axles. I am not the OP. I was asking lincster for some clarification because I never heard of tire sizes differing because of the being ST or LT. Knew your were not OP -responding in part but not completely to question. These two are not the same dimensions (aspect ratio) but many think they are until install time. ST235/80R16 LRE -Very common size, typically just under 31". Capacity is 3420 to 3500 depending on OEM Used on 6K, derated 7K axles and 7K axles depending on tire brand. LT235/85R16 LRE typically just under 32". Capacity of 3042.

RE: EZ-Flex

The bronze bushing are an interference fit. If they slide in without effort something is worn/out of spec even if the miles are low. Installed a HD wet bolt kit on my Rage'n at about 2500 to 3000 miles -the nylon bushing were already failing. 10K on nylon bushing and they must of been shredded or non-existent when dis-assembled.

RE: XPS tire size

You need 1" clearance between tires -this is directly from Dexter Axle Documentation. Also need about 3" of bump clearance, top /top sides, for full axle articulation at full load. The LT245/75R16 LR E are nearly the same diameter dimension as ST235/80R16 but have a wider section width. Only issue going this way is wheel width should be 6.5 inches for the Lt245/75R16 tire. Might consider the Bridgestone Duravis R250 or M895 instead of XPS rib. These are usually $50 or more cheaper per tire than the XPS but still a steel sidewall/steel tread tire.
