RE: Canton, Tx to Amarillo, TX

We just drove across Texas the middle of May (like a week or so ago) and I-20 bucked us most of the way. I mean we got off of it and traveled secondary roads because of the damage it was doing to our rig. We got back on it from time to time and regretted it every time. I'd stay off of I20.
The drivers in Ft. Worth are something else. We were warned...we did not believe it until we witnessed it.
The drivers in Dallas are even worse. (We were warned about them by our friends that live in Ft. Worth) Driver came from the far LEFT lane...crossing TWO lanes to cut in front of us....drove on the shoulder (actually this was the tail end of the on-ramp and he cut them off too) to pass 3 cars and then crossed back across all the lanes to the far Left lane. I guess that's how you pass the guy that isn't going fast enough in the "fast" lane. ???
If you drive through downtown Dallas at rush hour (like we did) be prepared to see some reckless driving. Stay safe. Keep your eyes open.

RE: can 30 amps run 2 13500 ACs

If you do, you won't be able to run anything else, like a coffee pot, while the a/c's are on unless you provide another circuit. Hubby figured out a way to run two 30amp circuits to the MH. He used the washer/dryer circuit in the MH to power an outlet in the kitchen that had a power strip plugged into it.
I could have the a/c going and some kitchen appliances as long as I did not use the washer/dryer at the same time.
That might give you some ideas.

RE: Where to camp in the Smokies

I know you said you were going in June and you probably won't have a problem with nut trees but... when we camped in the Smokies late in the fall many years ago, I knew nothing about the problem until we were snug in our beds and the wind started moving the tree branches overhead. First a couple fell ...then it was like a hail storm.
So watch what you park under.

RE: Going to Chicago Cubs game

Kane County has one west of Elgin, IL (Paul Wolff)
http://www.kaneforest.com/findPreserve.aspx?Feature=9
Kane Co, IL Camping
Elgin is right on the Northwest Tollway (the one that runs from Rockford, IL through Chicago).
Elgin is the last stop for the train that runs to Chicago but you'd have to take a taxi or figure out the bus system to get to Wrigley field from the train station. Might be an easier way to go rather than driving there.

RE: pine Bluff, AK Rv park

For an overnight or longer??? There's a nice one we just stayed at in Sheridan, AR. That's not too far from Pine Bluff if you like FHU(paved), $18/night for Gravel site.

RE: 3G vs 4G...AT&T

We are 4,000 miles into a 8,000 mile trip from Rainier, OR...down hwy 101 and hwy 1...into Yosemite NP...Carlsbad Caverns NP...Ft. Worth... middle of Mississippi...and now near Little Rock.
The only places I had 4G was in the larger metro areas. It's very fast.
But it's not going to be "nationwide" for a while yet. Still, only invest in equipment that is both 4G and 3G compatible. You don't want to be ONLY able to get 3G in areas that do have 4G
We are on the Verizon network but we have a month to month with Millenicom. EXCELLENT service. Cheaper than going with Verizon.
I use a Samsung mifi with a Wilson Cradle to boost the signal. I use a netbook for internet. We got phone calls in DEATH VALLEY. (no internet though). (I can use the Wilson Cradle to boost my Sprint phone signal.) I sent and received emails in YOSEMITE (not good enough signal to upload pics though(

Southland Village RV Park, Sheridan, Arkansas

WONDERFUL campground in a great town with good variety of fast food and stores. RV Park is more like a large city park with big areas of green grass and shade trees. The managers were very friendly. Made us feel right at home.
Most seem to be year round residents but there are 22 sites available with full hookups. 14 paved surfaces @20/night and 8 gravel surfaced @18/night. (Electric included) Big rigs not a problem. They are developing more sites. VERY friendly managers. Very clean cg.
The sites at the back (the gravel sites) are huge. Lots of shade. Very quiet. We loved our overnight stay here and will go out of our way to come back. I'd consider this for a snow-bird spot for us in the future. They have weekly and monthly rates.
Located appx 40 miles south of Little Rock on hwy 167 (just south of hwy 270)... behind Wal-Mart and away from traffic noise. (Southland drive is the entrance street.)
Address is 84 Village Lane, Sheridan, Arkansas 72150
PH:870-942-5354 870-917-7713
Google search gave WRONG address. Just remember that it's behind Wal-Mart and you'll have no problem finding it.

RE: Extreme Water Conservation- Share your secrets?

I'm not sure you (the OP)are serious... but I'll give you a tip as if this was a serious inquiry.
I put a pan in the bathroom sink. When we wash our hands, I collect that water and pour it into large size squeeze bottles. Like dish detergent bottles. When we flush the toilet, we turn OFF the fresh water pump and use that water to flush the toilet. We do not use our "fresh drinking water" to flush.

RE: Which roof air conditioner is best for Truck Camper?

I just checked the pics I took during the install...we have the 49201. It's been running perfectly. We installed a new thermostat... recommended by a/c installer and I think it was a good thing to do.

RE: Truck Campers

Some cg's don't allow truck campers...and they don't allow you to take the camper off the truck. Just wanted you to know that. (and I did not have time to read the other posts.)
Make sure you do your math before you load up and go (make sure you are not overloaded.)
Make sure you know what tires you are rolling on. (E's or G's)
electric jacks are nice...

RE: Straps fpr wondow awning that is built into the side topper

We just put a loop of thick string into the existing strap. It hangs down a bit and that makes it easier to find and much easier to snag with the hook.

RE: What do full timers do to NOT become bored with life style

The biggest difference between happy and unhappy... bored or not bored...is having a PURPOSE. The reason to get into a full-timers lifestyle is to have more time for your Purpose. Whatever it is or whatever they are.
Sight seeing...
Visiting family...
Being able to volunteer..move and volunteer somewhere else.
If you have never volunteered anywhere... you are missing out...because that's where the 'feeling appreciated' comes in. That's almost as important as having a purpose.
We divide our year between USFS, BLM and Hard Hats for Christ.

RE: I found a GEM of a CG - Ocean Cove, Jenner, CA

Just to make it very clear... there are NO full hookups. This is "boondocking" in a private campground. There is NO electric at the sites. There are water faucets scattered around. There are NO flush toilets. (There are portable toilets.)
What you get at your site is a picnic table, a fire ring and a VIEW.

RE: Trip Report: Death Valley in March

We were there around the 22nd of April. All was wonderful but we wished for a breeze as we went to bed around 11:30pm. Around 1am the gusts began. WHOOSH! then reasonably quiet and we'd doze off. Then another WHOOSH! that rocked us. We thought maybe we should bring the slide in. The next WHOOSH brought us out of bed and frantically bringing in the slide. The noise on the roof made us think the topper on the slide had been ripped apart. It wasn't. I don't know why not.
I had stopped at the Ranger desk and asked about a weather report. He said nothing about the wind.
We're in a truck camper and have a way of bringing the slide in while we are inside. I can't tell you how many times that's come in handy so far.

RE: Need help for correct tire pressure

I'm not an expert on anything... I'll tell you what i have learned by experience. the Mfg of the motor homes seem to want the nicest ride possible and so they want just enough air in the tire to get the motor home to ride nice (on a soft tire). So they recommend under 90.
The tire mfg. and the tire installers go by a chart. They have never ridden inside a motor home or driven one. They want the tire inflated toward the max and that gets you a hard tire with lots of jolts going down the road.
I think our MH tires are inflated to around 85 or 90. Certainly not over 100.
Maybe this will shed some light on why the sellers of the MH's and the sellers of the tires differ so much.
