RE: Two new Highway Cams Hwy 37 & 37-A

It was open in 2005 and the old gentleman with the beard was there. A wealth of information for a "newbie" to that area.

RE: best town for 4th of July

In 2010 we spent the 4th of July in Whittier. It was wonderful. To think such a small little town could put on such a nice 4th is hard to believe. We throughly enjoyed it. Plenty of places to stay on the way in if you don't want to pay to take your camper through the tunnel, or take it with you and stay in Whittier. Where ever you decide, relax and enjoy it.

RE: Plattsburgh New York to Anchorage Alaska via Canada

I just read your post so thought I would share with you the routes we took since we came over your way to get started. We went North on 87 to rte 11, picked up 37 and crossed at Cornwall. We find this an easy crossing. Then 416 up to 417 and then 17 across. I think in Manatoba it changes to 16. Just outside of Edmunton we took 43 into Dawson Creek. We just love this route, have done it three times. It will be so easy with your class C., you will find plenty of Rv spots and gas is plentyful and expensive. We bite the bullett and pay the price just because we love traveling in Canada. Our return trip we always drop down into the States. I hope this is helpful for you. I envy you making your plans, and if this is your first trip, there will not be another one like it. Happy Trails and safe travels. I hope you keep a journal and post it from time to time so we can follow you on RV net. Judy and Bob

Winnebago Lite5

Does anyone have any information on the new 5er Winnebago is introducing to the RV market?

RE: Fairbanks campgrounds

I sure wish we had that address for Sourdough Sam's when we were in Fairbanks, but we did use the Truck/car wash and it did a wonderful job. We returned to Rivers Edge after our trip to Prudoe Bay and needless to say, our truck needed washing. Heck of a good job and reasonable to boot. What more could you ask for. ;) If your thinking of doing the Haul Road, Rivers Edge had a place to park your RV for a very reasonable amount. Judy

RE: old style TV

Thank you so much. This will make a great winter project since it is all tucked away waiting for Spring. It is in the Living Room area, and it is completely enclosed, not an easy job just to remove it. I'm not sure of the exact size, but it was a good size unit. It been replaced twice. They never seem to survive a trip to Alaska. I believe this system sits just above the tires, that might have been our problem. Hopefully we can do something with the bedroom unit as has been suggested. Thanks again and Happy New Year.

old style TV

WE have an older model 5th wheel, 2000 King of the Road, and the TV has finally quit and believe it or not, we can't find one to fit in the slot. Has anybody posted anything on this forum as to how they converted to a flat screen TV? Sure would appreciate any advise. I guess I shouldn't have said we can't find one to fit in the slot, their of many that will sit in there but it doesn't look nice with all that blank space around and in back of it.

RE: Alaska in 2012 - another post & more questions (long)

Hi Lizzie You are doing all the things that we did on our first trip to Alaska, but one of the best things for us was our stays at each RV Park. Once we reached Dawson, people we either just going or coming back and all have something to tell you. We learned a lot, even changed our routes at times just because we wanted to see something we were advised "not to miss". Some of the caravans seemed to stay pretty much to their own groups and didn't socialize as much as the individual campers but we learned so much just from chatting with other folks. RVers are a friendly bunch. There is nothing like your first trip to Alaska, and it just makes you want to keep returning. Have a wonderful time Judy

RE: Newfoundland: Bears, bears and more bears!

Great pictures, Diann. Hopefully in the next year or two we will make that same trip. Thanks for sharing. Judy

RE: Recent Border Crossing

Returning from Alaska in July of last year, we entered in BC on route 93 into a little town called Eureka in Montana. After the usual and customary questions (nothing about computers) the agent said to us "Welcome Home". What a great feeling that gave us. I don't care what they ask us or what they want to look for, they give me a safe feeling. Judy

RE: Will have to change my Yukon/Alaska RV travel website ...

Congratulations, Sue to you and your hubby. What a fabulous view. It may be a fixer upper, but the photos make it look like you could move right in. WE'll be anxious to read your progress as you move on this summer. Judy

RE: RV Parks in Ontario/Border Crossing

Last summer we stayed in Dryden, Ontario at the Northwestern RV Park. This was a Good Sam Park and perhaps one of the nicest parks the entire trip, going to Alaska. It's small, but very, very clean, and the owners can't do enough to make your stay pleasant. They were pet friendly to. Cash only, however, they will take a personal check. I can't say enough goodthings about this park. Happy Trails. Judy and Bob

RE: DId you do the DALTON HIGHWAY Alaska !!!!!

We drove it last summer. Left the 5th wheel in Fairbanks and just drove in our truck. Camped the first night in the BLM Marion campground. Started off in heavy rain but road wasn't bad. By the time we got to Coldfoot you wouldn't have known who's truck belonged to who. All mud from stem to stern. We didn't find the road that bad, considering the weather. Truckers were great. We pulled over, went slow, gave them a wave and got one in return. Thanks for the info Kathy, now we know. LOL Colder then heck when we got to Prudhoe Bay. I think the date was June 18th and it was about 32 degrees and the wind was howling. Quite an experience, a great journey and so glad we did it. Saw a lot of wildlife. To take a camper or not would be a personal preference. Our camper is very heavy so we opted not to spend a huge amount on gas. Which ever you go, it's well worth it, IMHO. Have a wonderful trip. RE: Recommend a RV Park in Valdez, AK

After reading the article on Sea Otter it makes one wonder why they couldn't run the RV site for those who are self contained. Seward doesn't seem to have any problem filling their city sites and they can't hold a candle to Sea Otter. It just seems like it would be a money maker for the residents of Valdez. Wonder if they put it up for sale, will it be an existing RV Park that buys it, or perhaps Princess or Holland America? I'm so happy we had the chance to experience the camping there. It will be another one of those "I remember when".

RE: Recommend a RV Park in Valdez, AK

Thanks Joe. That answered a lot of questions for us. Doubt we will go back to Valdez if that park isn't open. The drive down and out, can't be beat, but the other RV parks didn't excite us enough to return. I can't think of another park, that we have been in, that fitted our likes and needs like the Sea Otter. We had a hard time going to bed at night for fear we would miss something. LOL

RE: Recommend a RV Park in Valdez, AK

Can anyone tell me if the city has done anyting with the Sea Otter RV Park? That was the best campground around IMHO.
