RE: Lake Superior Circle Tour

A timely post for me. Earlier today I started looking at the UP for a possible trip and saw the Lake Superior Circle tour mentioned. Now I have all this great information. We will be visiting friends in southeastern Ontario in late July so would start our trip on the Canadian side. lizzie

RE: Palamino or Crossroads

I may be comparing apples with oranges since we had a Palomino TC and we have a Crossroads TT, but the Crossroads has been much more satisfactory. We have found it to be a higher quality, better built unit. lizzie

GlampingHub.com ? An oxymoron?

Saw an article in USA Today about GlampingHub.com, a search site for glamorous camping. I thought "glamorous camping" was an oxymoron. When we graduated from a tent to a pop-up I thought that was about as glamorous as it could get. Now with the TT I'm all the way into "opulent" (Opcamping.com?) or maybe "dazzling" (Dazcamping.com?).Send photos of your glamping sites as I don't want to miss any out on any more opportunities. lizzie

RE: Campground observation (Times have changed)

Yes, camping has changed but so have most of the things in my life. Including me! Some changes are for the better, some not-so-good. I still love to camp and I'll bet you will enjoy your travels in your motorhome. lizzie

RE: Camping World of St. Augustine

I am generally a fan of CW (Chattanooga, Woodstock, and Dothan are my favorites)but I have had nothing but bad experiences in St. Augustine. Their strange method of assigning salepeople (you stand and wait while they find the next person up on the rotation), their seeming concern that you don't really have the resources to buy anything, and their reluctance to let you actually look at their inventory sent me elsewhere to buy RV's twice. Three years ago I went down the road to Ocean Grove and paid cash for a park model for my son after they were downright rude to us. Two years ago they had a the TT I was interested in on their lot but evidently we didn't look like the kind of people who were going to buy anything, so we cooled our heels for awhile before leaving. We bought our TT at CW in Chattanooga. Whole different story. I am in St. Augustine a lot (I am here now), but don't use that store. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to vent! lizzie

RE: Cleveland GA to Crossville TN

Sorry John, there just aren't any good roads going east to west through that area. Mountain ridges make for mountain roads. Taking US-64 through the Ocoee Gorge is the flatest route and since they improved it after the rockslide,it is slow but not hair-raising. It is also very beautiful with several scenic pulloffs to see the Ocoee River and Parkhill Lake. Another option,if you take TN 68, is to stay on it at Ducktown through Tellico Plains and on to I-75 at Sweetwater, TN. It is a rather tight road from Ducktown to Tellico Plains (about 20 miles), but has only a couple of long downgrades and no mountainside dropoffs. I hope you will not go all the way into surburban Atlanta and out again in all that traffic just to avoid US 129. lizzie

RE: Cleveland GA to Crossville TN

I am not at home and do not have a Georgia map with me but I will try to tell you the non-mountainous way to get to Chattanooga. Then you can follow jaycocamprs direction from there. From Cleveland drive south to GA-400 and go to the Dawsonville exit (the one at the Premium Outlet Mall). This is either GA 52 or 53. Turn right and go through Dawsonville, turning left at the 4-way stop. Continue on this road until it splits. (The left curve will go to Big Canoe). Stay RIGHT. Go to the stop sign where the left turn goes to Elijay, (the right goes to Amicalola Falls SP). Turn LEFT. Just before you get to Ellijay take the ramp on the right up to the four-laned GA 5 and continue to the right toward Blue Ridge. At the light in Blue Ridge (McDonalds) turn left and continue to Macaysville, GA. At the four-way stop, turn left on what is now TN 68. Follow this to Ducktown, TN where you will turn left on US 64.This will take you through the Ocoee Gorge and to I-75 at Cleveland, TN. This is a lot easier than it sounds and if you have a Georgia map you can easily figure it out. Locals call this the "Apple Valley route". It is beautiful with rolling hills and mountain views but no steep grades or hair-raising dropoffs. I drove it twice a week for five years. Going over Blood Mountain is called the "Neel's Gap Route" and is to be avoided at all costs. Best of luck, lizzie

Never thought I would be asking about Topsail Hill

Although my husband was on the team that negotiated the acquisition of Topsail Hill for the state, I have to admit that I have never seen the campground. (It was not acquired until later). We usually camp at Blackwater River or Rocky Bayou. A group of our friends have rented cabins there for Nov 9-12 and want us to join them. We want a campsite for our 22' TT that is not too far from the cabins but near a bathhouse. The CG map on ReserveAmerica does not show the locations of the bathhouses. We will be out canoeing all day so a beach view doesn't matter. Any suggestions? Thanks, lizzie

RE: What have you seen as best way to sell an RV?

I had serious inquiries as a result of ads on CL, RTtrader.com, and the Roadtrek forum. The actual sell resulted from an ad in our local, weekly newspaper. The buyer was from out-of-the-area, but a friend of his in Murphy knew he was looking for an RT and called him. He came right down and bought it. Best of luck. lizzie

RE: Has anyone been to Lake Lanier Islands Campground, Georgia?

Have you checked to see if the have a campground at Lake Lanier Islands? I honestly don't recall. There are a number of COE campgrounds on Lake Lanier however, including Old Federal. Some of them close in Oct. You might want to go on-line and get the details. Best of luck, lizzie

Good Service at Camping World - Dothan, AL

For the past 18 months we have done a lot of business at the Camping World in Dothan, AL. They have never failed to be polite and helpful. We had an electric jack installed on the TT yesterday and they fixed a few little odds and ends as well. Last month we bought a part from them that another CW insisted did not exist. We have had some not-so-good experiences at other CW's but not this one. lizzie

RE: Downsizing

We have a 22' Crossroads Sunset Trail Super Lite. We are camping in it right now and it is about perfect for us. When shopping for this RV we knew we did not want a dinette. Our TT has a two foot slide with a very comfortable sofa. The dining table stores under the bed but we bought a smaller one and now have room for a good folding chair with arms as well. We don't spend a lot of time inside so a smaller TT makes sense for us. lizzie

RE: Camper realities for family of 5

Will your truck have safe seating for all the children? If not, it's a no-brainer, you will have to get something else. Being unsure of your situation, the ages of your children, your wife's opinion, and how badly you want to camp, it's hard to say whether you can make the TC work. I had five children and a variety of camping rigs. We didn't have much money but we loved to camp so we made it up as we went along. I'm not at all sure I could have done it with infant twins though. Best of luck to you. lizzie

Our Stablelift was on a 2004 Chevy Silverado 4 door 4x4. We did take it to Kalispell to have it installed thoough. lizzie

RE: Best day hiking in Northern Rockies of BC?

We like Wells Grey PP for waterfall hikes. Unlike most of BC, the area was volcanic and is full of basalt plateus. It is huge (over 3,000 sq miles) and the Murtle River alone has seven major waterfalls. Some impressive Falls are Hendrix, Helmcken, Dawson, Sylvia/Goodwin, Canim/Mahood, Deception, Osprey, Moul, and my favorite, Spahat. In Waterfalls of British Columbia, Tony Greenfield calls it "BC's waterfall capital. lizzie

RE: Restricted campgrounds

In all these years it has happened to us only once. It was near Morganton, NC off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We were in our Class B and the CG was almost empty. We were told they only accepted motorhomes. Then, as we turned around to leave, another man ran out and said that he thought maybe we were a motorhome after all. We thanks him nicely but went elsewhere. We camped in a huge place in Arizona with friends who were Full Timers and had been there for a few weeks. They didn't "usually" accept Class B's, but made an exception for us. We looked so funny parked in there with those monster MH's but everyone was very nice. lizzie
