RE: Winter Proof Hybrid

Agree with Skip. The material used to enclose the underbelly under our TT can't weigh that much extra. I doubt it would add too much weight to your HTT. Only way to know for sure is to ask about it, though.

RE: HEY we need a sticky for our TT pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winter storage? Looks more like a winter retreat. Got room for another one? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trouble is, that's about the only flat spot on the whole property. Thanks for the compliment, yizit! :)

RE: Problem with one neighbor cat

That is unusual, since the normal thing for cats to do is to try to bury their waste.

RE: Florida panhandle

We loved Blackwater River SP. Not on the beach, but inland - beautiful spot, FHUs (!) and inexpensive to boot. I believe the river that flows through the park is canoeable (is that a word?) :)

RE: cost to add power awning

Could be. It cost about $600 to have our dealer install a slideout awning (which isn't powered). Are you SURE you want a power awning? If you decided just because it seems neat & convenient, I strongly recommend to do a search on this site about power awnings and read lots of comments about them, before finalizing this decision. If we had our druthers, we'd switch back to a manual awning - just MHO, of course. :)

RE: Winterizing and bypassing water heater?

Yes, you would want to bypass the water heater, because if you don't, you'll need an extra 6 gallons of pink stuff (non-toxic antifreeze - the ONLY kind to use in your water system; DON'T use the blue antifreeze you get for the car!!) in order to fill the water heater before any of the pink stuff is available to run through your lines. :) If your camper is not equipped with a bypass valve, you can buy aftermarket bypass kits. In any case, be sure to drain the water heater as part of winterizing.

RE: the biltmore

Not exactly right by the Biltmore, but a nice 1/2 hour drive from there: Lakewood RV Resort, Flat Rock NC. IIRC, you can get tickets to the Biltmore at their office & save the hassle of buying them when you arrive. Convenient to the interstate, but quiet.

RE: Nominate your roughest road

I can't believe that, except for Michigan and a small section of southern Wisconsin, no one has mentioned the concrete interstates & 4-lanes throughout the northern Midwest. Unless the concrete is brand-spanking new, those concrete sections have started to succumb to the ravages of freeze-thaw cycles, and become not only prime porpoising areas, but after a point, downright bumpy. And I mean a totally regular BUMP-BUMP-BUMP...for miles. Makes our stomachs churn before long, not to mention finding chairs overturned & things fallen out of cupboards in the camper when we stop. We've encountered many spots - most of I-90 in Wisconsin, much of I-90 across southeast Minnesota, parts of I-80 almost everywhere, I-294 in Illinois (they even recently concreted some formerly asphalt sections, meaning in 2-3 years that road will be miserable as well as expensive), and lots of state & US routes in Wisconsin as well. I disagree that Wisconsin has some of the best roads - they look nice and there are 4-lane roads across unpopulated countryside, BUT... It's not quite there yet, but I-15 in far northern Utah (north of Brigham City) to the Idaho border is one of those concrete monstrosities that will become a really rough ride within a few years.

RE: slideout awning

Ditto what skipnchar said. Also can be an additional problem in very rainy, windy weather - the rain makes the awning sag, which increases its vulnerability to wind. On balance though, we're glad to have one.

Yes, teeth were one of the first things she checked.

RE: cat stopped eating

I've been switching brands and flavors of cat food a lot lately, even up to several times a day. Nothing appeals to her. She has been eating a bit overnight, mostly from packets of tuna (the people variety, not cat food), and I have been syringe-feeding her baby food a couple times a day (which is a real struggle, as all cat-parents know! :) ) Same result with the refrigerated/heated-up food as 2chiefs has had; from my reading, that seems pretty common. The vet gave the cat some Nutri-cal at our last visit - it didn't seem to help much, and it's as much of a struggle as syringe feeding (this cat does not like that stuff, or hand-given "treats," etc. No inordinate vomiting - mostly just associated with hairballs - and no diarrhea, but some constipation. As far as finding another vet, this is the only one within several hours' drive that seems to be cat-oriented (dogs are much more popular where we live now). Thanks, everyone. Lots of possible outcomes here. We'll see how it goes.

RE: cat stopped eating

We'll probably get an x-ray done; the vet said that works well for the chest area, not so well for the gut in cats. Thyroid tested in normal range, but slightly high. Liver is ok (I was worried about hepatic lipoidosis; our earlier cat that stopped eating gave herself a nasty case of that.)

cat stopped eating

This is the second of our cats to do this (interesting - both are/were our only females). She never used to be very fussy, but over the last 3-4 months she has become so. I thought she was just trying to be a "princess," but she got fussier and fussier, and now virtually eats nothing except a small amount of tuna (not cat food, but regular cans/packets of tuna processed for human consumption). Her blood work shows nothing out of the ordinary. I'm trying hand-assist feeding (using watered-down baby food and an infant's oral medicine syringe) but her eating trigger hasn't reset yet. She's an 8-year-old we adopted at the age of 2 from a shelter - we were told she's half Siamese, though she looks like a basic black shorthair. (She's plenty vocal, though - perhaps one clue about her background.) Has always been healthy up until now. The vet suspects cancer :( because a steroid administered Thursday didn't seem to make any difference - and if she had inflammatory bowel disease, it would apparently have made a huge difference. Anyone been through this before - and if so, what did you do? Thanks in advance for any help/ideas. We hate to lose her so fast - she's such a loving cat, and we just lost our other one in February, due to old age.

RE: Put the ADCO cover on the big mutha

We put it on the roof unroll it find the "front", and "rear" tags and push the sides over the edge. Twenty minutes in a stiff wind. I rest much easier with it in place, Pretty much how we ended up doing it, after trying various other methods first.

RE: Opinion on when to leave

Maybe going that direction it would work out on Sunday. After trying to drive back from southern IN to northern IL on Thanksgiving Sundays, we gave up & started going back on Monday. Traffic in that area, at least, on that day was HORRENDOUS.

Old home week. My father used to take us hiking in Madera Canyon when they lived in GV, years ago.
