RE: Very Surprised at RV show

Interesting. Hybrids have been much more in evidence in the Midwest than the west, in our experience. Jayco is a VERY popular brand in Wisconsin; perhaps some of the other companies making hybrids weren't represented because area dealers just haven't affiliated with those brands.

RE: kearney nebraskacampgrounds

Stayed at Ft Kearney SP a few years ago. If you don't have a really big rig, it could be a good choice, but remember you would need to pay an entrance fee (this applies to all NE SPs) in addition to the camping fee. If you're staying several nights, and like the SP atmosphere over private CGs, it would probably be worth it; not so much for just one night, IMO. We were interested in the state historic park, a few miles away, so it was a good choice for us. The CG is accessed by a nice country road, but you can hear the interstate from many of the sites. Fairly well-spaced sites; bathhouses nothing to write home about but ok.

RE: Ohio to Florida and anywhere inbetween

New England or the U.P. might work well for you too. Beaches in both places (though rockier than you might be envisioning.) Some of the shoreside SPs in the UP are great!

RE: Denver area state parks

Thanks, folks! From the parks' websites, it looked like Chatfield is definitely more scenic; my reservation would be the haul from there to get heading north on I-25 - or relative difficulty getting into the city to visit friends. Thoughts?

Denver area state parks

Planning a trip for this summer, a few days of which we'd like to spend in the Denver area to visit friends. We generally enjoy state parks, and have read good reviews of both Cherry Creek and Chatfield, but wonder which might be better. We will have the rig in our sig pic (TT is 34' long) and will want hookups. We'll probably be arriving via I-70 from Kansas, and will be heading up I-25 to Cheyenne after our Denver stay. Most likely we'll be staying in the area during the week, rather than over a weekend, if that makes any difference.
Thoughts, opinions and route suggestions welcome! Thanks!

RE: planning trip to wymoning any tips

If time is no object, I'd recommend spending 8-10 days in Yellowstone & the Tetons combined, or more if you enjoy lots of hiking. Then I'd recommend going on up north to Glacier NP. Seems that park is just a bit far for most folks to get to - including us (many times to Yellowstone, but so far never have been to Glacier.) Just a thought. (Glacier's in Montana, not Wyoming, but by western standards, it's almost in the same neighborhood.) :)

RE: Deer avoidance system ?

Friends have had the anti-deer "whistles" mounted on their front bumper for years. They've hit deer at least twice since they added them. Guess they don't work too well.

RE: Winter Proof Hybrid

Agree with Skip. The material used to enclose the underbelly under our TT can't weigh that much extra. I doubt it would add too much weight to your HTT. Only way to know for sure is to ask about it, though.

Winter storage? Looks more like a winter retreat. Got room for another one?

Trouble is, that's about the only flat spot on the whole property. Thanks for the compliment, yizit! :)

That is unusual, since the normal thing for cats to do is to try to bury their waste.

RE: Florida panhandle

We loved Blackwater River SP. Not on the beach, but inland - beautiful spot, FHUs (!) and inexpensive to boot. I believe the river that flows through the park is canoeable (is that a word?) :)

RE: cost to add power awning

Could be. It cost about $600 to have our dealer install a slideout awning (which isn't powered).
Are you SURE you want a power awning? If you decided just because it seems neat & convenient, I strongly recommend to do a search on this site about power awnings and read lots of comments about them, before finalizing this decision. If we had our druthers, we'd switch back to a manual awning - just MHO, of course. :)

RE: Winterizing and bypassing water heater?

Yes, you would want to bypass the water heater, because if you don't, you'll need an extra 6 gallons of pink stuff (non-toxic antifreeze - the ONLY kind to use in your water system; DON'T use the blue antifreeze you get for the car!!) in order to fill the water heater before any of the pink stuff is available to run through your lines. :) If your camper is not equipped with a bypass valve, you can buy aftermarket bypass kits. In any case, be sure to drain the water heater as part of winterizing.

RE: the biltmore

Not exactly right by the Biltmore, but a nice 1/2 hour drive from there: Lakewood RV Resort, Flat Rock NC. IIRC, you can get tickets to the Biltmore at their office & save the hassle of buying them when you arrive. Convenient to the interstate, but quiet.
