RE: norcold control board

My understanding for experience is that the "no co" warning comes on if the frig is not level, if the power to the frig is insufficiant (low battery) or a few other things I can't remember but show in the manual. You have ONLY ONE chance to correct the fault. If you restart the frig with the problem still present...low batter, off level, etc...the frig locks out and a technician in needed for the restart. When mine faulted the tech used a paper clip to short out something and the frig was able to restart. The inital problem was low batteries, which I replaced before we fixed the frig. Suggestion: You might want to have another technician check out the frig before you replace the board. JMHO

RE: How do I find Inspectors before buying?

Personally, if I questioned my own ability to inspect the rig, I would contact local campgrounds and ask for the names of the mobile mechanics they recommend to guest. I would then call one of these and pay their time for the inspection.

RE: 2006 Winnebago Adventurer 35A

Mine is a 2005 with Workhorse gas engine. There was a brake recall. Also a recall on the Norcold 1200 frig. The tires will be 6 years old, at least, and I replace my tires every 6 years, needed or not. That's about $3,000. We have been relatively problem free, and really enjoy our MH. We upgraded and then had to replace the water pump. The water heater had to be serviced as the out line filter became plugged. One of the hydrolic jacks failed, and I had the springs on all four jacks replaced to increase return speed. Enjoy.

RE: la mesa rv,san diego

I purchased my current RV from LaMesa 6 years ago. The salesman was young but really went out of his way to find a MH that fit our request, and called us to visit one of their shows when that MH was available. Even though we did not intend to purchase right away, the deal was such that we did. This is where the happy story ends!!!! Follow up service was horrible. Weeks to get an appointment, then the MH would sit on the lot for weeks while "parts were ordered" and returned to us finally is dirty condition. It took a call to the company president and the suggestion that a suit was pending to finally get them to complete modifications agreed to in the purchase contract. After promises that everything would be better, during the last service call the MH was left on an outside lot, with windows open during a high wind dust storm. It took days for us to clean out the mess. Never again. In short....whe were pleased with the deal, we will not use their service under any condition. If the price is right, go for it.

RE: RV renting for 30 this summer

I do believe Camping World has an RV rental department. Since they have a presence throughout the USA it might assure you of support as you travel. Haven't used them, but then I haven't rented either.

RE: Anyone ever use the oven?

My wife loves to bake, and is very good at it. We would never consider a MH without an oven.

RE: Does such a thing as a decent gasser exist?

I really prefer my gas motorhome. It cost less out the door, so I can afford to change it more often. I am not affraid to let my children borrow it with the grandkids, again a price vs risk issue. As for speed, my current Workhorse 8.1 in the 38 ft Winnebago Adventurer can pull my Saturn Vue toad over the I-5 Grapevine comfortably at 55mph...what more could I ask. My previous Fleetwood Pace Arrow 36ft with a Ford V-10 also could maintain highway speed over the California mountains, with a Tracer wagon toad. Both got an average 7-8mpg, much less over the mountains. Previously I had a Holiday Rambler 36ft with a 454 engine. A beautiful MH, but this is where gas MHs probably got a bad rap. Taveling over the mountain I could at best get 45mph, add a tow car, even a light tow car like the Tracer and I would drop to 35mph on the steep grades. If I lost momentum the 25mph for the rest of the climb would be the best I could do. Happy Trails.

RE: RV Parks near Estes Park

We stayed at Oak Meadows twice. Both times we enjoyed our stay. Last time was a few years ago, but if and when we return I would stay there again.

RE: Is buying from Camping World our only option?

I have been to many CampingWorlds as they tend to have what I need for the MH when I need it. Some are great. Portland CW truly saved me. Denver area I remember as very helpful. The people at San Diego area CW were very knowledgeable when were were there. That said, employees can do a lot of damage to a company. My local CW is understaffed and rather useless. Obviously, you met a salesman who would do better in a used car or used appliance store. Camping for free, overnight, is dependant on the community rules, and our local CW is not permitted overnight camping. Most warranty work on an RV is appliance related, and can be accomplished at the appropriate appliance repair center. Pushy salespeople make it rather obvious that they will say anything to get a sale...see if they will put it in writing on the contract BEFORE you sign...yeah right. Personally, if I found the floor plan that was "perfect" I would purchase now. There will be many months when the RV is sitting unused, and you feel payments are being wasted. But in the long run, at least for my family, the time spent using the RV well makes up for the time it sits and gathers sunshine. Finding the best floorplan for your family needs is by far better than finding something "close" later. JMHO Happy Trails.

RE: external radio on RV

In all my years of RVing I have never turned on the outside radio. Not really sure why it is considered standard equipment. I'd just pull the fuse, just in case it is wanted by some future owner. JMHO

RE: Rental Cars at Camp Grounds

We've rented a few times while RV traveling. Other than planning the time needed to pick up the car and return the car it is not really a bother. Most rental companies will pick you up at your site and then drive you back after the car is returned. Avis has a prefered card plan that makes pick up and return super simple. I bet others do the same. Happy Trails.

RE: ros and cons of Tow Doly

I used a tow dolly for over 25 years. Demco with surge brakes. During that time I had 3 different MHs and lots of different cars. When everyone came along we towed a station wagon, when just a few, a smaller car. Once on a short tow to San Diego I even towed the van (yes, way overweight). It was easy, never had a problem, other than a blowout, but that happens, and only once was I asked to park the dolly off site. Then, the park helped unhitch, and returned the dolly at checkout using a small tractor. Now I tow 4 down, it is easier to the back and knees. Happy Trails.

RE: Class A Only Resort free stay offers: YES or NO

I have no objection to taking advantage of a free trip for visiting. However, we have never taken advantage on one....my free time is for enjoyment, and I don't wish to feel obligated to attend a meeting or a sales thing, etc. A friend used to go to every free offer...at the end of the sales presentation he would ask: "so can I do this even with my current bankruptsy?" Happy Trails.

RE: Durango from Missouri......

Way back when, when I first had to drive the rig into the mountain I had a great deal of reservation. Really, the drive over and around the Rockies is not so scary. Your vehicle should be in good, very good, shape. If you find your engine temp in rising turn off the A/C (I never ever had that problem), anticipate traffic...having to slow for a truck way up ahead that you could have passed will drop your speed and you will not be able to regain momentum, thus you will tootool along at 25 or 30 mph. Not a big deal, just frustrating if you could have planned better. If your brakes get hot, stop for a lunch break, or just enjoy the view for an hour or so. (This only happened to me once, and I now know better than to ride the brake). I presume you are heading to Durango on the 160, which is really a nice easy drive. Or you can take the 516 up from Farmington, CO, also nice easy drive. DO NOT TAKE THE 550 through Ouray and Silverton with the rig. It is a fantastic drive with the tow car or with your tow vehicle...DO NOT TAKE IT WHILE TOWING. I did it twice...first time I was nuts, the second time, years later, only proves I was crazy. It is beautiful country, don't miss Mesa Verde National Park, I love the area and will probably return to Durango in the near future. We enjoyed our stays at the Alpen Rose RV park in Durango. Happy Trails.

RE: Do You use a Brake Buddy?

I have the older, non-proportional, Buddy Brake. Very happy with it. Towing up and down the mountains out here in the West I wouldn't be without it, or some other brake system. Easy to attach, easy to remove. When driving on the flat I leave it at the default setting, and it seldom comes on...you really need an emergency type stop to make it activate. When I am about to go over really steep grade, like the Grapevine, Baker grade, Grants Pass, etc, I push the button on the brake system in the toad, and select a greater amount of assist. I then see the brake-engage light come on more frequently. Works for me. Happy Trails.

RE: Fun and Games at Flying J

I stop at the station with the easiest access and exit. If it is FlyingJ/Pilot and the RV pump is open, fine. On the 5 at the 12 near Sacramento, 76 is by far easier for a MH and toad. As for the price, I would rather have an easy fillup compared to saving 3 cents a gallon on 80 gallions. JMHO Happy Trails.

RE: Towing scooter and bikes with utility trailer

Sounds good to me. It is light enough that brakes will not be required, you will just need appropriate trailer lights. I used to pull a utility trailer with the kids bikes down to San Diego all the time when we had the 28ft Establishment C with the Ford engine. Enjoy.

RE: Have you been turned away?

Hi Mighty Thor, I love your motorhome, that is fantastic. I will camp with you anytime. An keeping on track with this thread, I have never been turned away and I have seldom been asked age. The Oasis in Las Vegas has the 10 year rule, but a simple inspection from the gatehouse is all that is asked. I have noticed many lovely vintage RVs in the park. Happy Trails.

RE: Large Rig Friendly California State Parks

Highway 1 between Morro Bay and Carmel is absolutely beautiful. However, if you are driving it in a large vehicle you will not be able to enjoy it as you will never take your eyes off the road. Going North some of the hairpin turns are so tight you will be able to see your tail-lights. I've drivin it twice in a 38ft MH with toad and swore I would never do it again both times. I guess I had a memory block after the first time, but it was 20 years ago then on last year now. Going South is imposible...at least for me. The shear drops into the ocean and the road without much of a shoulder make it a really scary ride. Personally, I would enjoy the coast from the 101 on the South, Stay at FlyingFlags in Beaulton and enjoy Solvang, then head to Morro Bay, visit North in the car, return to the 101 and head North to Carmel and again enter highway 1. Take the 17 mile drive in the car in Carmel, beautiful, and camp at Moss Landing, a lovely private campground rather central to the area. The rest of the drive all the way up North is slow, often winding, but very drivable if your not in a rush. Happy Trails.

RE: Getting financed at Pomona CA RV show?

I believe the upcoming Pomona RV show is a private production by Giant RV. Therefore it should be like dealing with any dealership. The industry Pomona RV show is usually in October or around then and contains exibits sponored by many manufacturers and corresponding dealers. Again, the purchase is just like that at any dealership, they will find financing or you can use your own. There is usually an option to purchase right there and then with their financing and change to your bank if it is better within a set period of time. Anyting to get you to sign on the dotted line. Happy Trails.
