I don't know for sure, but maybe Jeep is trying to do a little CTB (Cover their behind). On our 2011 unless the ignition is in the on position there is no power to the Power Point. Without power to the power point there is no where to plug in an aux brake system since cig lighters are a thing of the past. However, in the on postion, it also lights up the dash and radio...which would be a quick run down of the battery. So I ran a seperate power point to the interior which is ran direct to the battery for being able to have an aux power source for the air compressor on the braking system. I should be good to go!!

I appreciate your feedback. I did request and receive the paper printed owners manuals from Jeep. The book says to place the key in the on but not start position and pull the Neg battery cable. It is starting to appear that Jeep has a hodge-poge of instructions floating around on this issue. Our Liberty does have the N position on the transfer case..I have the Select Trac system on the Jeep.

2011 Jeep Liberty as a Toad...got questions.

Sold our Wrangler TJ and moved up to a 2011 Jeep Liberty 70th Anniversary Edition 4x4. The owners manual says to leave the key in the ignition and in the on position and pull the negative battery cable. From what I can locate on the internet, it appears that neither of these steps are now required, being that the steering wheel no longer locks. Is this correct? Second item I discovered is that the Power Point for plugging in the toad brake system does not function, unless the key is turned to the on position. To get around this problem, I ran a seperate Power Point Plug from the interior of the Liberty direct to the battery (with an inline fuse). This should supply the needed 12V power to maintain the brake controller with no problems....Right? Anything else I need to be made aware of before our first outing with the Liberty?
