RE: Roof ACs ------

Front has a larger are to cover?
Usually the living area is larger than the bedroom but the front roof-air has a higher heat gain to overcome due to more windows as well as the windshield in the case of motorhomes. Glass is a poor insulator when it comes to heat transfer.

RE: Propane issue

The problem is not in the tank. The hose has a device called an excess flow valve. When you reattached the bottle, the hose and propane manifold did not have any propane in them. When you opened the bottle, the rush of propane needed to fill the lines tripped the excess flow valve in the hose. Waiting a few hours should allow the valve in the hose to reset. You can try and turn the bottle off, wait 30 minutes, then reopen the bottle slowly.
I think you should do a little research. The OPD device is in the valve that is screwed into the top of the LPG tank. This valve prevents the release of LPG if the flow rate is above the specs of the OPD valve or of the valve is frozen off. The device you are talking about is the seating valve in the other head of the hose. If this valve is not compressed by the tightening of the valve oo the device, the valve inside will not be compressed and there will be no LPG flow.
Sorry vic but you should check the facts a little more because jet is correct.
The ONLY safety devices contained in the gas valve on a propane tank is the Overfill Protection Device (This is a float valve that prevents the tank from being overfilled) and the safety high-pressure release valve that vents the tank if high pressure is present. Neither one of these devices limits gas flow to the propane system.
The OverFLOW Protection Device is indeed contained in the Acme or POL fitting that screws onto the tank's valve.
While from experience I know this to be true, I have spoken with a tech at Manchester that manufactures most of the LPG tanks used in RV's and they confirmed this. The exception to this is on a few tanks that were oncve imported that contained an overflow device in the valve. These were marked "Made In Italy".
Also, no competent refill station relies on the OPD (overfill protection device) to fill a tank to the proper volume. As someone else mentioned above, the bleeder valve is what must always be used to fill a tank properly. Why? Because a OPD float valve can and has stuck in the down position which would then allow a tank to be overfilled. It is the bleeder valve that will acuratly indicate when a tank is filled when liquide spews from this valve.

RE: Propane issue

Filling station may have used too much pressure to fill it. The RV appliances have pressure cut-offs and the grill doesn't perhaps???
I'd run, not walk, that thing back to them and have it checked.
This is not acurate.
Propane stations have no control over the pressure they use to fill tanks and are not capable of using "too much pressure" when re-filling tanks.
Also, RV appliances do not have excessive pressure cut-off devices. While some may use secondary regulation devices such as an additional regulator at the gas inlet and regulated gas valves, they don't incorporate any type of cut-off device activated by high pressure.
The Acme or POL fitting on the gas-line rubber pigtail contains the only flow-limiting safety device used in an RV.

RE: Gnats in the black tank

Help! We have gnats in our black water tank. I also noticed that the seal is broken, Is it possible they have been there all the time? They are getting out now esp when we flush the toilet. Ideas?
I've had that happen twice when leaving a sewer hose hooked up, even with the dump valves closed. Seems that once they get into the hose from the park's plumbing, all they need is the short time the valve is open, to get into the tank.
I've found that they die out after a few generations, couple of months, if I run some bleach into the tank.
Ummm, they get into the tank through the vent pipe that goes through the roof, not through the campgrounds or your hoses or valves.

RE: Problem with Gas Water Heater

Or low gas pressure. Main burner wants to come on and pilot light gas circuit is then starved for gas.
NOt a defective thermocouple. If it was, the pilot light would not stay lit.

RE: weight distribution hitch

No, they don't all do the same thing. Some have the sway prevention built into the design such as the Equalizer, Reese Dual Cam and Blue Ox.
Curtis, Eaz-Lift and others must also have a friction sway control added.
Yeah maybe, but you can by an "off brand" and a friction sway contol for cheaper than you can buy an equal-i-zer.
Yes, and that's what I did. Even after buying two new sway controls and a Curtis set-up that had been used 2 times, I was still at almost 1/2 the cost of the others.

RE: 2000 Coleman roof cracks

If you have a roof-air, I suggest that you remove it and replace it with a vent. Removing the weight will help prolong the life of that failing roof.

Solar Question.

I have a 60 watt panel that I want to use just to maintain by batteries. I know I also need to buy a controller and will get one soon.
My question is, does the panel need to be isolated (disconnected) from the batteries when there is no sun? Will the panel use battery power after dark if it's left connected?

RE: So, You Think You Are A Good Fisherman?

Thanks for posting that excellent photography. We have traveled the Intercoastal Waterway on the East Coast and have been able to observe these incredible "Fish Hawks" many times. They often nest on the Waterway markers, where we can see them feeding the chicks as we passed. At present we're camped on the beach at Assateague Island Maryland and have been watching a pair of Bald Eagles fishing, another great thrill!
Cool! I remember the time I went on an Eagle Watch at a lake in California. It was the first time that I saw a bald eagle outside of captivity. What a thrill. When they took flight from a tree, the leaves blew around from the wind coming from their 6' wing span.
Amazing!

RE: capacitor On RV

A large capacitor works nicely .... on a DC circuit. Don't try it on an AC.
So why do they work on an air-conditioning compressor which is aC power?
The answer to that is a college course in case you are wondering (AC THEORY)
Capacitors do many things, In an electric motor you have a "START" capicator.. This motor has two windings, a start coil and a run coil,, if you put power to them equally, the motor just sits there and hums at you.
But put a capicator in series with ONE of the windings and a phase change is caused in that winding, this causes the motor to.. Turn, (Actually turn in a specific direction) ON some motors the two windings are identical and to reverse the motor, simnply apply power to the OTHER end of the capacitor.
In other cases it's bit more complex.
But the reason for the start cpacitor is to set up the mis-matched phase relationship that makes the motor start turning in the proper direction.
The run capacitor is to offset the inductance of the motor and correct the power factor.
IT all has to do with an old friend of the electronics and electrical engineer, ELI the ICE man.. Once you meet Eli, you will understand.
Yes, I know all of this and I sell motors all day long but my response to this poster was questioning his statement that capacitors only work on DC circuits, which BTW, is not true.

RE: Wine and Liquor in Utah

Liquor in all State and Federal parks is a big NO NO, but as long as you do not flaunt it, you should be O.K Out of sight, is out of mind.
Incorrect. Many State and Federal parks allow alcohol but do restrict it's use in certain areas such as public buildings and motor vehicles.
In fact, according to the Illinois web-site, some of the parks in your own State allow alcohol and many restrict it's use.

RE: repainting a fiberglass rv roof

He won't be "re-painting" it if it original. The original color is Gel-Cote and it is part of the fiberglass manufacturing process and not a paint.
I must ask why does he want to paint it? Have airplanes flying overhead been complaining? :B

RE: Swimming pool pump

Changing the voltage on a dual voltage motor is very simple and involves only changing the position of a wire with a spade connector inside the junction box.
