Screws on the outside

Has any one wondered, WHY these manufacturers use regular metal screws on the outside of the trailers? Really stupid. 1 year old already and I am replacing screws that are rusting all over.:M Up cleaning on the roof the other day and ALL the cover screws on the AC are rusty as all get out, plus the ones holding the escape hatch on were rusty also.
Solution, I removed all, wire brushed and primed them with Galvanized paint. The window ones I repainted black, and the AC, I did a 2 coat with the Galvanized paint.
I know cheap labor and cheap parts, but , dam doesn't anyone in the manufacturing dept ...THINK?:h
Well there I said it. Also it is a Keystone Passport 195RB 1 year old and just 6 weeks out of warrentee...:M
Stainless screws do not cost that much more......

RE: Has anyone removed the back seat from their Crew Cab?

I'll be at the Ninilchik State camp ground hosting this summer. Bring that socket with you. ;=) I want it. Plus some ply wood and a couple of 2x8' 8' long 2x2x1/4" angle iron..
Heck should be able to screw something up;=))))
Any way it shouldn't be too much of a deal and a fun project. Plus great clamming and fishing near by?

RE: Tires ..... I know ... I know .. lol

IF you just purchased it. Those tire should do you good to get where you are going, it came with a spare. I have the same tires and the Passport, been going and going and don't listen to too many people about their problems usually self induced.
Salty to San Antone isn't that far. Do not over inflate the tires and stay your speed under 60 . Remember the heat will get your tires. Both the trailer and the tow vehicle..
DON'T forget to rotate those trlr tires and check the lugs for torque.
That's my 2 cents going to AK with one spare.

RE: Saw a cutie TT today.

We used to have a Chalet Arrowhead, Belonged to a group that there were probably 55-70 different pop ups. Families all over and most that had more than 2 kids had tents or over hangs to help out. Not to be critical of some posters saying don't get small. Kids and families have fun camping at any age. :h
The size does' not matter ,,till you get older and really want/need more comfort.
We now have a 195RB Keystone Passport for just two. :B
Oh And did I miss how many kids TXLaura have/had?

RE: bike rack

A rack configured to mount between the trailer and the TV is best.
A few forum members have posted pictures of their tongue mounted racks. A quick search will locate the posts.
I run a pin box mount on the 5th. I had a local welder fab a mount to hold an under tire type rack that we had left over from a prior MH
Just personal opinion I suppose, I guess I 'd rather be the first to run them over, should they ever fall off. :R:R:R
JMHO
I fabricated a 2" receiver for the front of my TT. This "hitch" is not bolted through or welded to the frame of the TT. It "sandwiches" the tongue with two plates that bolt to each other.
I then purchased the best 2" receiver bike carrier I could find. This has worked flawlessly for me.

Now I like that one...Good job well done. I am 70, bad shoulders and lifting two full bikes that high,, well you may not know waht that means.:R
Thanks.

RE: Which caulk? Duralink? 3M 4000?

I use and have used 2 different ones , both from lowes or HD . inside DAP 3.0 clear outside DAP Dynaflex 230. Depending on the color you want you can get the Dynaflex in Almond and white. This is a very easy to use, clean up and to me a superior product to a lot of the
'RV"brands.
I carry this every where I go. You would be surprised how many people come up with LEAKS at the worst times, and if you can help them out it is good.
Oh and when you are caulking, run your point towards the seal it makes for a smoother bead, and as always keep a bowl of soapy water to put your finger in to run over the bead. Works great!!!:B
Cheers and happy fixing.

RE: bike rack

IF i could figure out how to send a pic on this site I would show how I did mine. No welding period the bumper isn't heavy enough, so I made some (and you can buy them)Square "U" bolts for this. Bracket to bolt on the plate welded to a 2" receiver. We purchased a Thule bike carrier, NOT the kind that you "hang" a bike on to . This one the bike sits on and locks down.
Any way if you want pictures. PM me or reply I will subscribe to this post.

We also spent a couple nights there,,, fear? of what coyotes and sounds at night. One of the neatest things is the programs put on there by the rangers, oh and the cowboy coffee in the mornings with rolls.\Birds every where..
Beautiful ride through the cati on the bus, 5.00 donation and they drive show all and tell all. Great times if some one just takes the time to go and enjoy. Thanks for the reminder Suzanne:B

RE: How to clean oil out of carpet. (Update)

Rub in "Kitty litter" yes before it is used ;=) a lot of pressure will take out quite a bit.Let it sit and soak it out. Or if you are really serious, dry cement. Same thing rub it in with a 2x4 and let it sit for a day. Then vacuum(sp) the heck out of it.
Then after you are done with either one, use Simple Green 1/2x1/2 water and scrub that out and vac again.
Good luck.

RE: Keystone Passport Forum

:)Thanks to all that have input. I was thinking more of a Passport Social group, for rallies and such. I have an Ultra Lite 195RB Western made. And mostly is a bit different thn the eastern ones made east of the Rockies. BUT liking to travel and meeting people, I think it would be fun to see about 25 Passports all in one camp ground..
I think I will see about setting one up on Yahoo Groups then post it here.

RE: Water Filter

I check my filters each month for any debris or discoloring. Depending where you go and the quality of water systems you hook up to makes a lot of difference. I have ceramic unnits and charcol and if in a dubious area the charcol goes in front of the ceramic unit.
I have used this system for several years and even in Mexico the filters are 3 times with a bug killer.
Some people always go to real nice clean places , we go to some real "shady areas".
I would suggest to you clean the filter tank/s and disinfect them. put in new filters and be happy.
Cheers

RE: Stuck valves

After you go through all the ST.... Stuff, I would go to your local RV supply store and get a couple of the Black Tornados and mount them in your tanks. Easier clean out of tanks and simple to use.
Took me about 1 hour to get up the guts to drill into a new tank,, but after .. real happy actual install was about 25 minutes.
Oh and make sure you use the SS screws that come with the pack.
