RE: Copper Center Lodge Destroyed by fire

That's sad. We stopped and enjoyed lunch there in 2009.

RE: Know your prices!!!!

DH and I pushed our cart to the car. We weren't in a hurry & after we loaded our car, I returned the cart to the store. What I'm saying is: we were in the parking lot of a small grocery store for a little while. When I got home, I'm missing quite a few items, so I called the store. A bag of our groceries hadn't been put in our cart (by the grocery bag man) but what irked me was they certainly had to discover it while we were still in the parking lot but made no effort to catch us. I saved my receipt and highlighted the missing items so I got reimbursed next time but store is 18 miles (one way) away. Same thing happened to someone we knew and their store drove their bag out to their house -- 40 miles away !!!

RE: Campground fire ring/grill

I wuz a little hongry. But after reading about diapers in BBQs I may never eat again. I will starve to death before I eat anything cooked on a CG fire pit. I actually saw a man urinating on one early one morning. As far as I'm concerned, fire pits are for campground fires ONLY. To each his own.

Bird problemss on the deck

I like birds, really I do, but they are really hanging out on our deck too much and leave their "mark". I'm sick of cleaning it off and summer is only getting started. Has anyone had success with keeping them away ?

RE: composite decking

A year ago, we replaced front & back decks. (DIY) We used cedar on the floor and composite for the rails & with metal spindles. Only have to stain/treat the flooring which is much easier than staining spindles ! We've had lots of compliments on it.

RE: Another Fun Telephone Call Today

Scam phone callers always get the same from me. "Hang on, the doorbell just rang - I'll be right back". Then I set the phone down and wait for the fast busy signal, meaning they've finally hung up, but it cost them some money. With broom in hand, I was on my way outside to sweep the sidewalk when the phone rang so after finding out it was one of "those" calls, I laid the receiver down & went about my sweeping project outside. I came back & picked up the phone to hang it up. That's when I heard a voice so I listened. He says "Are you ok ? I waited for you !" So the joke was kind of on me !

RE: Hobbies...

Me: Sewing, quilts, bead jewelry, gardening, flowers, refinish furniture, watching grandkid's sports, garage sales, canning, camping. DH has restored 2 gas pumps this winter (one is 100 years old), helps me with furniture projects, helps our offspring with their house update projects, takes me camping. Recently he's doing the daily soduko puzzle. I think we have tooooo many interests !

RE: Mink

A co-worker brought in a box of ear muffs made from mink, fox, ermine, etc. (her mother worked where they made fur coats, etc) She wanted to share them and I picked the mink for my choice. I wear them a lot in the winter and love them. Maybe your stole could be recycled into these for family members ??

RE: Another Fun Telephone Call Today

I grew up listening to grandparents speaking their native tongue so when I get these phone calls, I launch my Scandinavian language to them. I don't have all the accent right, but they don't know that, do they ? Pretty soon they get off MY phone !!!

RE: Places to see and visit in BC!!

We toured a great car museum. If my memory serves me right, it was at Peachland.

RE: Home A/C setting

We turn our AC off when gone for extended time. Also cut power to water heater also clean out & unplug the second refrigerator. We unplug all possible things like lamps & alarm clocks. Dehumidifier in basement stays plugged in. Most things are stored up off the basement floor but we do make sure anything else gets off the floor. Just in case. X2. Shut off the water inlet valve to the house too. That way you don't have to worry about a pipe bursting. Shut the AC off. They never had it years ago. Yes, we shut the water inlet valve off. I forgot about that one. Even if we go overnight.

RE: Sold on cast iron cooking

Using glass top is not recommended for canning but I canned on mine 17 years with no problems. I'd still be using it but my 90 year old MIL needed a new stove so I gave her mine (controls were almost identical to her old one so it wouldn't confuse her too much) and bought a new glass top for myself.

RE: Drivers License Renewal

Mine took 2 trips. When I got my SS card back in the early 60's, it came in 2 parts, stapled to a brochure thing. Both lower & upper parts had the number machine-stamped into the card. As instructed, I removed the bottom part and signed it. When I went to get my license last year, I took the top part still stapled to the original brochure that came from the ss office but this wasn't acceptable ! Went home and re-grouped and all was ok the second trip. My new license has a gold star on it so next time I only need to show 2 pieces of mail with name/address on it. Unless they change the rules, of course !!!!

RE: freezing/defrosting food safely

My method for thawing meat for dinner while I'm at work: put package of meat in the sink and empty ice cube bin on top of it. When I get home, meat is thawed, most of the ice is melted & dripped down the drain. Meat is icy cold. Done this many times.

RE: Your Favorite Lunchmeats?

Pressed Chicken Sandwich Meat (as made by my Danish Grandma) Cover a stewing hen with water. Add 1/2 Tblsp. salt and 1/8 tsp. pepper then simmer until done. Drain & save broth. Cool meat until it can be handled then remove & discard bones. In large bowl, mix light & dark meat with 2 Tblsp. minced onion & about 3/4 tsp. sage. In small bowl mix 1/2 cup cool chicken broth, 1 envelope dry unflavored gelatin and 1 cube chicken bouillon that's been dissolved in a bit of boiling water - pour this mix over meat and toss to coat everything. Press this firmly into a container (she used a bread loaf pan) cover with waxed paper then weight down with something heavy (she used a brick). Chill. Unmold and slice for sandwiches. She always had dark bread (homemade) buttered and sliced thin.

RE: I'm bragging - taking off weight !

I've got a huge closet and I don't get rid of clothes, if I like them. Terrible, I know. Anyway, 35 pounds lighter, I tried on a lot of things this morning and they actually fit !!! It was a great day !!!
