RE: Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

Do you have a Norcold 1200 series refer? If so, one of the 2 heat elements is your problem. Replace BOTH. Doug
I have a Dometic.

RE: Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

Thanks to all of you who responded to my original inquiry. When trouble shooting a new problem, I failed to look at the obvious; "what's different than the last time it worked". My wife had turned on the refrigerator before I moved it. A couple of you suspected the refrigerator and that finally rang a bell in my dense head. After turning off the refrigerator, the ground fault stopped tripping. It did not trip after the refrigerator was turned on after the power was turned on in the coach.
It worked all week although the campsites did not have GCFI and it is still working now that I am back home. Could be there was some moisture in the refrigerator circuits.

RE: Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

The simple answer is that you probably have a ground fault. Checking the cord with a meter will not find the problem. The GFCI outlet tests the amps on the hot wire and compares it with the amps on the neutral. If the difference is greater than 5 milliamps, the GFCI trips. Start by turning off the breakers in the RV, one at a time, until you can plug it in without tripping the breaker. Then start working on the circuit that is fed by that particular breaker.
Please note that the circuit breaker trips when the main if off. That's all circuits.

Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

I have a 50 amp motorhome and I turned off the GCFI circuit breaker in the house to move the coach a few feet. After I reconnected, the GCFI trips. I put on a 110 adapter and hooked up to a 110 circuit with a GCFI circuit breaker. It also trips. When I hook up to a non-GCFI circuit breaker, everything seems to work fine. It also works fine with the generator. I checked the continuity of the ground prong on the plug to the ground on internal outlets and it seems good. I also turned off the Main circuit breaker in the coach and the circuit breaker still trips. Any suggestions?

RE: Ontario to Prince Edward Island

PEI is busy busy busy when "schools out!"
If the weather is great, locals in the Maritimes will book up all sites for every weekend in July and August...be warned!
Using the bridge from NB to PEI.....
As one enters PEI there is an "American Style" rest area just off the bridge, very good for information, etc.
Leaving PEI is when you will pay to use the bridge...(free to come in, pay to get out! LOL)
Take the ferry off the island. It is the same price as the bridge, but much more fun,

RE: Albuquerque, NM to Hutchinson, KS

I just came east from Albuquerque through Tucumcari then up through Liberal on 54. I then went north to 50 through Dodge City onto Hutchison. The roads seemed fairly smooth with little traffic.

RE: Kansas City, MO to South Fork, CO

We just came east through Kansas on US 50 ending up on I-35 going into KC and thoroughly enjoyed the route. Roads were in good shape with passing lanes ever so often. We have a 38' Monaco and there was plenty of room on the road and places to pull off. As was previously said many towns have parks where you can camp. Offerele which is just east of Dodge City has a park on the north side of the highway where you can park for free with water and 20 amp service (No dump). We would also recommend Spring Lake campground near Halstead which is the largest campground in Kansas.

RE: New RV'r...today!

Congratulations LuAnne. I have been setting up a motor home for years and still learning. You mentioned there was a campground near by. I would suggest you call them and ask if they have a name of a reputable mobile service man they would recommend. This person would normally not be a mechanic, but would be familiar with all of the systems in your new house. It would be good to check all of those systems before you leave. The service man would be able to show you how everything works for a nominal fee. If you were in my area, I would do it for free.
Another suggestion would be to go to the FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) website and find the president of the local chapter in your area. Call that person and see if they can provide you with a mentor.

Noisey Dash Air Fan

My dash air fan is howling like a bearing is going out on my 97 Monaco DP. Does anyone know how to get at the fan? There appears to be a box with hoses coming out on the outside firewall , but it looks pretty tight to get at. Is it possible to get to it from the inside?

RE: Best route for tow

I-40 through Flagstaff is over 7000 ft, but the grade is not too bad. I just went through there and it is not too bad except for the cross winds.

RE: water heater sacrificial anode

fordsooperdooty has the right idea. You want to heat the nut and cool the bolt at the same time. I would try dry ice on the anode rod if freon spray does not work. I am afraid an impact wrench might damage the metal to glass seal. Obviously, when you break it loose you will want to leave it in the tank until you cool the water.

RE: Leaking toilet! Help please.

If you are looking for a temporary fix, wipe silicone grease (purchased from a plumbers supply or hardware store) on it. The grease will temporarily soften the rubber and also provides some sealing itself.

RE: Question about previous owner and a part

Go to a cabinet shop and have them make you a fancy cutting board that fits in the area. It can be used for cutting and for counter space. I think I will replace mine, now that I am thinking about it.

Slide safety switch

I am at a campground and the neighbor just pulled in with a new 32' Monte Carlo and can't get the slides to move out. Since I don't have slides, couldn't help him. It seems to me there should be a safety lockout to prevent kids from moving the slides. Am I correct and where would it be?

RE: WHAT TO DO IN NOVA SCOTIA

There is a toll on the bridge to PEI. The fee is collected going onto the island. No fee is required on the bridge off the island. The ferry is also free if you are already on the island and is worth the time it takes. Ann of Green Gables is a must to see.
When I get back home, near the end of the month, I will take a look at my notes and provide you with some more tourist attractions.
