RE: opening and closing

Which way should the rubber flap be? folded "in" toward the inside of the camper, or "out" toward the hinge? Also, never heard of removing mattresses - where did you read that? Don't know if yours is the same, but ours has a rubber flap on the hinge side which is part of the seal arraingment. If it gets floded over when closing the rain gets in when driving. My wife watches the seal while I close from inside. Being tall, I can run my hand along the door to make sure no tenting is in the way just before it closes. We're supposed to (and we do) remove the mattresses when closing and put them back up once closed, held in by bungee cords. I've also found the aluminum door frameing a little bent, bowing out in the center or at the 2 ends. This of course leaves part of the seal loose, it bent back fairly easily. Aluminum isn't the strongest of materials.

RE: 2004 K214 Kodiak Skamper THOR (Aerolite)

No. they do not lock. And you do not want them to. Aside from drawing down the battery, I doubt it is healthy for the brakes. You need to chock the camper wheels. Chocking is Rule #1 before detaching camper from truck. Next is leveling: side-to-side and front to back. Else the fridge will not work very well, amongst other things. Congratulations and Good luck. Do some study before going any farther. Your last question tells us you don't (yet) know what you're doing. Unless you want the trailer to roll away you need to chock the trailer tires. ;) -- Chuck Yes, I figured that. I just was asking if the unit auto locks when power is removed from the unit.

RE: This one is for your DW.......they know best !

Like most things, it's already been thought of. HERE is the scent for that. We sometimes watch the show "shark Tank", and found this item there. http://test.originalmancandle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/78911.jpg height=150 width=200 I sometimes release a fragrance in our camper, right before I pull the covers of my wifes head......Maybe you should bottle it and sell it on eBay :B Well, we didn't exactly "let it be". I made a screen for the emergency exit window, allowing more cross ventilation. The screen attaches with velcro and stays on full time. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5143/5565151280_041fd10d73.jpg

RE: Keystone Express Super Lite 190 exp

Nice Youtube video HERE. I compared to my Kodiak, and found the Keystone: - had quite a bit smaller awning. - had small front access door - nice top access to front storage - had some kitchen counter top area. ours has a nice counter space left of sink, and I believe the Roos have zero counter space. - the interior storage was different but comparable. I assume there is storage under dinette seats and the couch?? It does seem like not enough camper for that family, though. There are 3 of us, and no pet, and that would be at the limit for us.

LOL At least you don't need to figure this out the hard way. My guess is you guys know more than most dealers combined!

RE: Turtling bed mod ideals

I had been pondering the same question as you this past year. The air mattress, a piece of plywood and anything you have around to make up the 2" difference (a 2x4?) would seem a place to start. You could probably improve on it after seeing it in place. Could size the plywood so it fit under the bunkend, while not in use. Guessing it would need to lay on the dinette while traveling. A bit of a pain moving around, but only needed on a trip that involves turtling.

RE: Beds and Bedding

We're also going to try the air mattress this year. The HTT mattress is near worthless. Also may abandon the sheets and go with sleeping bag as well. Jury is out if we'll retain the 2" memory topper.

RE: Condensation

I never have any on the tenting. It's always under our bed, though (but not under DD's), so I think it's a mass body heat thing for us. Anyway, when packing up to leave, I prop up the mattress and use a 12v turbo fan for 15 minutes. Does the trick for me. P.S. It sounds like a jet engine - very loud, which is only reason for the 1 star rating on Amazon. Thus, can only use it for this purpose. Turbo Fan

RE: Pictures of packed HTT

After learning from the popup, how annoying it is to move things during setup/teardown, we have adapted a slightly different approach with the HTT, striving not to have much packed in the aisles. - our 14'x14' gazebo lives in the front storage pass-thru - used on only a couple trips per year. - our 2 bikes are on a rear welded hitch, done at a hitch shop. - we have 1 folding table, lives in the front storage pass-thru, along with the bag chairs. - My clothes are in the overhead rear cubby. I just replenish clothes, as needed with a plastic grocery bag. - My wife and kid's bag are on the couch. - Sleeping bags live on the dinette seat. - Sheets/towels are in front cubbies/cabinets. Replenish as needed each trip. - Various Toolbox / tools/ extra hoses/cords live under the dinette seat. - Lynx leveling: 1 spare set under dinette, 2 sets in the front storage pass-thru - We stopped using a cooler when purchased the HTT - may carry a small one in the TV for day trips. - Fishing poles in the shower - sounds good! - Cleaning/misc supplies under both kitchen and bathroom sink cabinets - D.O. and charcoal in the TV Also: - Essential water/gas (for WeberQ120 grill) and Electric hoses live in front storage pass-thru, along with patio lights. Thanks for sharing about the things that can't be put away in drawers, cabinets, etc. I mostly have the following - 12' x 12' Awning Tent - 2 children's bikes - 2 folding tables - My wife and I's bag - 2 sleeping bags - Children's bike seat to be installed on 1 adult bike - Bin with sheets/towels - Toolbox - 2x6 wood for leveling - Cooler In the bathroom, I put: - Fishing poles in the shower - Tupperware bin with cleaning/misc supplies - Bucket with coals/duralogs I was also asking because if we had to stop for one of the kids to go to the bathroom or something, it wouldn't be easy to use the toilet. Also, going in and out at the dump station is not straight forward as the door on our Bantam is in the rear and I try to place heavy things in the rear of the HTT to minimize tongue weight (still keeping it within 10-15%).

RE: Fire wood

There absolutely are restrictions in Lower Michigan. In Michigan, You cannot bring ash firewood onto any DNR managed lands including state parks, forest campgrounds, recreation areas, access sites and forests. They have numerous web pages, which seem to confuse the issue. http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10365-95931--,00.html The FAQ's: 1. I don't live in a quarantined area, can I take firewood with me a state campground? We discourage moving firewood because other forest pests can be moved in it. If you are not moving firewood from a Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) Emerald Ash Borer quarantine area and you live in the Lower Peninsula, you legally may move firewood anywhere in the Lower Peninsula. It is illegal to move any hardwood firewood out of the Lower Peninsula no matter where it originated. Hardwood firewood being brought over the Mackinac Bridge will be confiscated. Even though moving firewood in the Lower Peninsula may not be illegal, we encourage all campers to buy local sources of firewood when they camp on DNR lands. 2. I live in a quarantined area, can I take firewood as long as it's not ash with me? You cannot move any deciduous (trees that lose their leaves in the fall) firewood from a quarantined area. 3. I don't want to buy firewood at the campground where I am staying, why can't I move firewood? Firewood is the number one way that the EAB has been spread across Michigan. In order to slow its spread, the MDA established a quarantine. People cannot move firewood if it violates the MDA quarantine. If you are in an MDA quarantined area, you can transport coniferous firewood such as pine, spruce, or fir but not any firewood from hardwood species such as maple, ash, or oak. You may not, however, bring ash firewood onto or into DNR managed parks, campgrounds, or lands. 4. Are you saying I can only take pine to burn at a state park? You cannot bring ash firewood onto or into a state park anywhere in Michigan. You also cannot take any deciduous firewood from a MDA quarantined area. 5. Does this rule apply if I am going to a state forest campground? Yes. You cannot bring ash firewood onto any DNR managed lands including state parks, forest campgrounds, recreation areas, access sites and forests.

RE: question about blow out valve

wow - i have had a el-cheapo "Pro-Force" 2 gallon oil-less compressor from Menards for over 10 years and it continues to work like new. Not much capacity, but it has served its purpose well. Just know what its capabilities are, and are not, follow directions, don't try to run it continuously - give it time to cool and it will last a long long time. Mine did not cost the $79 shown in the link I provided - I paid less back then.

RE: Help stuff falling out of bathrom cabinet in transit.

http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/3919/509582c977d0.gif West Marine prices look high. Just bought a motor starter today, from firstchoicemarine.com. 40% less than Western Marine. Both had free shipping over $100. I like the addition of the second catch, or maybe just a simple eye hook. I was thinking of installing some elastic cordage (with electrical connector eyelet ends) across the compartments, screwing the ends to the sides of the plastic interior. That way it would pass over the edges of the dividers while not fouling the door. That's what I did, but with no eyelets. I drilled a hole in each side, passed it through and tied a knot. That held stuff in. With the exra bungy, I made the loop that holds the door closed. Looks factory, works like a champ.

RE: Triple Towing

Wait a minute... what if the frame bent and then the roof leaked? Could be related. In any event, will you be be hard pressed to stay within MO's limit of 65'? If that is even the true limit: many of these towing law compilation lists are suspect. you're correct, i should have specified the frame warranty. and it would have to be related to the mod causing the frame to fail in some specific way. but since hybrids/travel trailers don't have shocks like motorhomes and some 5th wheels, the constant bouncing causes stresses on the rack/hitch when weighed down with bikes or cargo. ultra-light trailers don't have the more durable and thicker frame members that heavier trailers have.

RE: Drying rack

I have seen our friends use a broom handle run across the bunkend latches. We went a little further and purchased these Leifheit Telegant racks on our HTT, as well as in our home bathtub for bathing suits. Available on AMAZON. A well-placed piece of velcro holds them closed during transit. Note that Leifheit-Telegant themselves commented on my picture - coool. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4137/4893205307_bf73231671_t.jpg Towel Rack 1 by haroldpe, on Flickr

RE: Opinions

If you are happy towing marginally, you'll be ok. For 2 years we are towing a 19' HTT (stamped weight at 3400lbs, but actual 'weighed' weight closer to 4500lbs) with a sister Outlook. There is a tow switch - use it. Also, I put the tranny in selectable mode, so it runs in 4th in the small hills. The largest hills I have taken this was in Kentucky and it performed fine. That was with 3 bikes and the canoe on the TV. I think it has gone down to 3rd two times in the 2 years I have towed, but not for long (10 seconds), before I backed off speed to 50mph. Can keep 55mph or more in 4th, and go as fast as you want to burn gas. Average is 9mpg, running 60-65mph. Don't worry about 6th, you'll never get there towing an HTT. That said, can run in 5th about 30-50% of the time. But 4th is no problem - just talking about 3000 rpm. Try this on you vehicle now (running in 4th) and see what you think. No, you will not need any rear end suspension work, only the WDH is very necessary. I had the RV dealer install mine, but I had to add washers later (Equilizer) to set it up correctly. After that, it has pulled level, smoothly and confidently.
