RE: Questions about my fresh water holding tank on Jayco 12F5

The fresh water tank is under the floor righ along the axel. I don't think this is an overflow device as far as I can tell. I will climb under the trailer again tonight to look at. Wish the trailer had a liguid guage that showed how much fresh water was left???

Questions about my fresh water holding tank on Jayco 12F5

Hey folks, went to fill up my fresh water holding tank on trailer and when I thought it was full and I shut off the faucet...water was draining from underneath the trailer. I got a flashlight and went underneath to investigate. There are two "white" petcock valves underneath. They were not the problem. There is also a "black" 90 degree nipple that was draining freely. There is not a shutoff on this nipple. What is the purpose???? Now I don't know if I have much water in the tank??? If I open up the white petcock it drains there, but I didn't see the purpose of the black nipple? Please clarify for me. I couldn't find any diagrams in my owners manual.

How much Generator for my Jayco 12F5???

So now that we have picked up the trailer...what size generator would you bring with you when no hook ups are around? Would be used to recharge batteries throughout the day. There was a microwave that was thrown in with the trailer, but I am not sure we would ever use. What watts and what brands would you recommend? I am not sure how long the battery would last boondocking, so I'm thinking with the generator I would be covering the bases. Any thoughts

Which tires for the Jayco 12f5 are best choice?

So, now that I found a tent trailer, what are the better tires to put on this Designer model tent trailer? I saw a post on tires the last few weeks that indicated some brands as better choices than others, but now I can't find it. Thanks for the help. Also if you know the price, please let me know.

RE: Will my Jeep Grand Cherokee tow this????

Passed on this TT. Went for a pop up instead. After factoring in other elements, the smart choice for us was a Jayco tent trailer. Thanks for the replies!

RE: Thoughts on a Jayco "Designer" series tent trailer

Well, we jumped into this 2004 12F5 founders addition last night. Looks pretty good. Is there a good repair tape for a small tear in the canvas fabric. They used a white ducktape looking material??? It came with two batteries that are relatively new (only using one at a time). I haven't thought about it until now, but is there a battery level indicator somewhere on this tt? How do you know how low thew battery is??? or do you just bring the spare for the inevitable switch? So if I am using the interior lights for reading at night, how long would the battery last? Is the fridge going to be cooler running it off the battery or off LP? Anyways I will have more questions as I set it up. Any little tricks or nuances would be appreciated for those of you who know this tt. Lastly, when cranking up the roof, is there a stop at the top level or is this a feel thing when you should crank it no more?

RE: Thoughts on a Jayco "Designer" series tent trailer

Wow! Thanks for the responses so far. This unit did not have the toilet. But from what I saw. it looked and felt like quality. More so than several other mfg's I have been in. For those who don't think the quality is there...what's up? Any more insight will be appreciated as I am going back this weekend to make or break a deal.

Thoughts on a Jayco "Designer" series tent trailer

Hi folks, anyone have one of these or know about this model. I have never seen this model from Jayco before and am curious if this is something special or not. It has a king and queen, slide out table and galley kitchen, sofa, 3 burner stove, hot water heater, furnace, awning... It looks like it is in very good condition (2004). Is Jayco on the upper end of the quality spectrum? I think it is a 20' TT when set up.
Any insight or things I should know about this TT would be appreciated. It has the front storage compartment that looks roomy as it seems the width of the trailer.
Thanks!

Thoughts on Coleman Niagara tent trailer?

Saw a used tent trailer today and thought it was nice. It was the niagara model with two King beds, couch, slide out table and shower and toilet combo. The box was roughly 14', and had the storage space up front by the LP tank. Seemed like a very nice layout and appealing trailer. Anyone have this model and or know about them? It was a recent trade in for around 7K (about 4-5 years old). Also, do you know of another manufacturer that would have and identicle layout? Thanks

Which Manufacturer would you recommend?

Alright folks...thinking I am going to look for a tent trailer after selling my TT. How would you rank tent trailer companies and which specific models for what reasons? Are there any brands to definitely avoid? I stopped in at a very large RV lot and they told me coleman just quit the business last month. Anyone else heard this or know why? Some of the mfg's I always notice are Coleman, starcraft, Jayco, palomino...please any experiences would be helpful. Also I have seen some posts on roof materials...are some problematic?
I am thinking of a slide out on a tent trailer...it seems like it opens things up a bit. Are they usually manuel or electric. Thoughts?

RE: Trailer or Tent Trailer which way to go

The "grass is always greener" I'm afraid of! Because we have had both PUP and TT's I see pros and cons of each. I like the ease of manuevering the small pups but like the storage and loading of TT's. We camp in high elevations and usually smaller/tighter camp sites making my 244lt a bit cumbersome somtimes. I just know that my floor plan in the Nomad bothers me because the couch and table are always down for sleeping. Oh well any more insight would be helpful.

RE: Looking for best floor plan for family of 5

I guess I mentioned 24' because our Nomad is 24.4' and sometimes I feel it to long where we go camping. If we were going to wide open parks on relatively flat highways...then we wood go bigger. But we camp in the mountains at high elevations and the camp sites are often tighter to manuever through. The lance model has a slide in it? What type of TV are you using?

RE: "Downsizing". Anyone ever went from TT to pup ?

Funny...I'm dealing with this issue myself. Have had both and am currently a TT owner (24' Nomad). We like the TT but the floor plan does not work now for family of 5. Made my own post re: going back to PU. We have to currently put our sofa and table down for the kids to sleep. PU's have more sleeping space than my TT! We only go out 3-4 times a year and the TT just clogs up the driveway. I can not get my TT in camp spaces I used to go with PU and miss that. The TT pulls much heavier, causes issues at some campgrounds and means more planning just to go out (because of length). The bathroom is nice for family and the TT provides more sense of security (alot of bears where we camp). I'm not sure all the other ammenities of the TT are worth it to us. I have a feeling we will look for another PU in the near future. Otherwise we will find a TT with bunks that is not to long or heavy!

Trailer or Tent Trailer which way to go

Over the years we have gone from tents to tent trailers to travel trailers. Trying to wade through the pros and cons on what style trailer makes most sense for us. Family of five and three kids under 10 years. We have outgrown our current TT's floorplan and now am looking for advice from those of you who have done this. I see tent trailers that can sleep more that our TT and I start to wonder what is our next move. We camp maybe 3-4 times a year and don't see the need to put a large/expensive trailer in the yard to use for such few occasions. For those of you who have gone down the road of "which" trailer is best, please let me know your pros and cons. Preferably whatever we buy there would be sleeping areas so we don't have to take down beds each day to use the couch or table. Would be pulling with a 1500HD 6L gas motor and nothing longer than 25' max. Actually, the smaller the better. If you can name specific make or models we sure would appreciate it. Thank you!

Looking for best floor plan for family of 5

Here's the situation, our model 244LT Nomad is nice but we have outgrown the floorplan. Queen bed up front, couch and table in middle and bathroom at rear. Now with 3 kids under 10 years, we need a trailer with bunks so we don't have to constantly pick up couch and table after sleeping.
We are hoping you can give us your "best" designs as we are thinking of buying a different trailer. Please let me know make and model and possibly how heavy the trailer is so I can go shopping.
Parameters: 24' or less, light enough for Chevy 6L gas motor on 1500 HD frame, pratical layout, reliable MFG, probaly two or three bunks for kids. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
