I don't give people a hard time about it either, I'm not the police. And there are several patients I have that I recommend NOT getting the vaccination for many different reasons.
There are consequences to not giving the vaccination, including breaking the law and endangering your pet's health, BUT there are also consequences in giving the vaccination as well.
Just trying to give information.

Disagree.
Cat rabies is now more common than rabies in dogs.
Many states and municipalities require it.
If your cat bites has no vaccination history and it's reported, you can be REQUIRED to euthanize the cat and have the head submitted for rabies testing (depending on state and local laws). At a minimum, quarantine for a period of time is required.
Instances of reaction to the rabies vaccine are rare.
International travel makes this all the more important.
The only one that can realistically answer your question is your vet. There are some medical conditions that may make vaccination inadvisable.
Age and weight is seldom reason enough not to vaccinate.
Vaccinating as infrequently as possible is a good plan, so many opt for a 3 year vaccine.

GREAT NEWS! Wayne Crockett Commissioner Chairman of the Burke County Commissioners is making a proposal to the commission that the six Acers of land owned by the county be deeded to the Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue with buildings. One building has 2,550 square feet and there are two wells on the property. It is completely fenced in with an eight foot tall chain link fence.
Also he is making a proposal that the County go into partnership with Old Fella and establish an animal control starting October 2012.
What a great potential. It will not only help the animals of Burke county, but also all of the residents.

Hi Pops. Did she run a BUN/Creat on Harlee yesterday?? I think the sucralfate is a good idea. If this continues and lab work is normal, the next step is X-Ray and or ultrasound.
It's been 3-4 years since the splenectomy?? Unlikely that this is related to the hemangiosarcoma from then, but other things can develop including adhesions from that surgery.
Hope it's nothing serious.
PS Old Age is not a disease... (As I'm approaching geezerhood This is a personal position :B)

As Gus said, this was a serious issue back in the 70's (when I was in vet schoold) got lots of attention and I thought the practice was largly eliminated. I'm not associated with any horse people, so can't speak to how wide spread the practice still is.
I like your idea of firing or soaring the ankles of the people that do this...

Do a google search on breed bans.
You'll find about as many municipalities are reversing their breed bans as new ones being put into effect.
Many have found that they are very costly to enforce and don't really effectively address the issue of dog aggression and bites.
Breed bans are a knee jerk reaction by politicians and a feel good approach. Most experts in the field favor an aggressive dog/animal policy in favor of a breed ban. This approach allows more flexibility to animal control officers and shifts the responsibility to the owners of any dog regardless of breed.

I find the wording confusing and contradictory. Are retail sellers exempt or not? What good does moving the number limit of breeding animals from three to four when there is a $500 gross revenue clause? This was probably a group written proposal with attorney input so that it's totally confusing. If they just say, internet, flea market and multiple animal sales are affected by the animal welfare act it could simplify the whole thing.

I'd avoid any medications or topicals. I've used a water based flea spray - sprayed lightly on a towel then wrap the kitten in the towel for a short time (body wrapped, head out). I don't recommend this in the hands of someone inexperienced in evaluating condition of the kittens before/during and after treatment.
The safest is to use methods involing nontoxic soap/water and or picking them off with a flea comb, but as Susan said chilling is a significant risk.
Bottom line, you are going to have an ongoing problem until the mother is treated.

This topic seems never ending, kind of like tires, Gas vs Diesel...
It is so full of emotion and entrenched positions that debate is pretty useless.
If the aim is to eliminate dog bite, then breed restrictions are poor solutions, even though it might make people feel safer. Often times these situations develop because people are uneducated, unaware or unwilling to see real canine behavior and potential problems.
I can't tell you the number of times I've heard "He/She won't bite," Anyone who knows anything about animals knows there are situations where ANY animal will protect itself.
Could breed restrictions actually create more risk?? All the pits are gone, who would think that nice Golden Retrieve would bite??? Be realistic, DOGS CAN BITE.
Education is the answer, starting with kids at a very young age.
Dealing with lots of breeds on a daily basis, I'd rather see a Pit than a MinPin or Chi (sorry those of you who love those breeds, I recognize there are great individuals in every breed and I've seen plenty of examples of those).
When pits are bad, they are tough to deal with.
I feel for anyone who has suffered a bite, lost a dog in a bite or just been scared by a situation.
