RE: Towed electric cord

We have the coiled cord made by Blue Ox; I believe it was a video on their website that taught me to slip a "coil" of the cable over the tow bar to keep it in place.

RE: Verizon 4G LTE hotspot

Then I guess I should assume a phone/Droid cannot be used as a multiple connection device like the 4G LTE Mifi therefore the router may be necessary. I don't know where you got that idea. I have two computers, an iPad, and a Roku currently connected to my phone's hotspot. I do have a WiFi Ranger router that I can use, but the phone itself does what is needed most of the time.

RE: Driving in Big Cities

Drive defensively and assume that the other drivers hate you because you are big and slow. Assume that everyone on an entrance ramp will attempt to get ahead of you. When I got my CDL training, a good deal of the course dealt with these sorts of issues. Once you get these ideas ingrained in your thinking you start to drive differently; for example, you slow down to let cars enter rather than asserting your right to maintain speed. I do sometimes have to use the air horn to wake up an idiot, but not very often. After having driven our 40 footer 20,000 miles over the past 15 months I feel I can drive it pretty much anywhere. On an absolute scale the cities you list are small; there are far worse ones: Houston, Wilmington DE, and St. Louis were on our list this past year to name a few. Don't give up, just keep driving; the more you do the easier it gets.

RE: Ford F-150 eco-boost MPG

At highway speeds the fuel economy is primarily governed by air resistance and vehicle weight. You are still driving a full-size pickup; IMHO it is unrealistic to expect major differences in fuel economy regardless of what engine you have. Car manufacturers like to make claims, but when all is said and done, a 5,000 pound truck is still a 5,000 pound truck.

RE: Tires and clear coat for a 38 foot beaver contessa

If a member of FMCA, they have a fleet deal with Michelin:http://www.fmca.com/join-family-motor-coach-association/member-benefits/fmca-connections/3455 As a Beaver owner you a eligible to join the Monaco International RV Club which has a better Michelin tire price package than does FMCA. On most tire sizes the Monaco price is good enough to offset the extra membership cost of joining the Monaco group.

RE: TV reception

Did you do a NEW channel search at every new location ??? 2X; lots of people seem not to be aware of the fact that a channel search has to be done every time a digital TV is turned on for the first time in a new location. And are you sure the antenna amplifier (the button and with the little green light) is on? And did you slowly turn the antenna to aim it? With the Wingman, the antenna becomes fairly directional and you have to turn it fairly slowly. There are also smartphone apps you can use to find the direction of local TV stations relative to where you are.

RE: Terrible RV Crash in Phoenix

The news report says that a front wheel blowout resulted in the RV striking the Jersey barrier.

RE: newbe leveler fluid question

Usually the levelers will retract even if the system is low; they may not be happy about being extended. My suggestion is to try to lift them; if they come up just leave them that way until you get back home. If they don't want to retract you have time to get someone to put fluid in just to bring them up. You don't need to use the levelers when you park; most sites are level enough that it won't really matter. You have to be pretty far off level for it to affect your refrigerator.

RE: Verizon 4G LTE hotspot

I use a Samsung Droid Charge in hotspot mode and have no problems with any sites. Occasionally my laptop doesn't want to connect to the phone and I have to go into a Command box and enter ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew to get it to connect properly.

RE: Charlottesville, VA Campgrounds?

We stayed at the KOA last fall and it was very pleasant. The CG is in a quiet, peaceful woodland setting but is very convenient to town. Depending on which site you have, some of them are reasonably private.

RE: DirecTV HD and Kingdome

I believe the SWM receiver can be used EITHER with the SWM box and a single cable to the SAT1 port OR a cable to each of SAT1 and SAT2 and no SWM box.

RE: WASHER DRYER INSTALL

Are the non vented units much more expensive? Camping World and other retailers charge about $100 more for the ventless models.

RE: WASHER DRYER INSTALL

I'm kind of thick. If the unit is not vented then where/how does the exhaust air from the dryer cycle get outside? I can only speak for the Splendide, but I assume LG's approach must be similar. The unvented Splendide has two drums, an inner one that is the normal wash drum and and outer one that is used for the drying cycle. During drying the inner drum is heated (I assume electrically) and the water vapor coming out of the clothes goes through holes in the inner drum and is deposited on the outer drum. There is no dryer exhaust in the usual sense. Cold water is circulated around the outer drum which ensures that it remains cold enough to condense the water vapor back to water which is then collected and sent down the drain to the gray tank (or wherever your washer drains to). The unit uses something like 2.5 gallons of cold water per hour of drying time for the purpose of keeping the outer drum cool. If you weren't aware, these unvented units are popular in Europe and Asia where it may not be possible to vent a dryer through an outside wall, particularly in older structures. They weren't designed for RVs; that's just an ancillary market.

RE: WASHER DRYER INSTALL

We have a new 7100 series unvented Splendide and it is much better than the 2100 series unit it replaced. I believe LG has an unvented model, also. If you are considering an unvented some people here will tell you they are awful, all we can say is that the new one works so well you would be hard pressed to tell it isn't vented. And to answer your next question, no, the moist air does not end up inside the coach. Going with an unvented, of course, eliminates the need to cut a hole in the side of your RV. One aspect about installing it yourself that hasn't been discussed, is do you have the plumbing already done? Does it end up in "normal" washer valves or is it simply stubbed off? In our MH the PEX water lines are directly connected to the back of the washer; we don't use washing machine hoses. The coach was plumbed with water shutoffs that are accessible from a master panel so they aren't needed behind the washer. However, working with PEX piping requires some skills you may not have.

RE: COE PARKS

The COE parks exist in parts of the country where the Corps built dams. Most of those are in the mid-West. Except for the Grand Canyon, there aren't too many rivers in AZ to build dams on! LOL

RE: Removing small Lp can from Weber Q before storing?

I remove the can and don't keep the cans in the basement storage. LP is heavier than air and will collect at low points. I keep the LP cans in the toad; doors are open and closed a lot more often so less chance of LP buildup and, if there were an accident, I'd rather it be the toad than then MH.

RE: Bedroom Slide Won't Open

You said: "Unit was running, levelers down and level, both living room slides were out." Were you extending the slides while the engine was on? If so it's amazing that any of them worked since they usually are wired so they won't work unless the ignition is off.

RE: New Mattress

We replaced our uncomfortable RV mattress with one of these: Serta RV mattress We got free delivery with no tax; the mattress is a least twice the thickness and far more comfortable than the one we threw away.

If you Google the letters and numbers molded into the headlight lens it should identify the year and model of headlights used.
