RE: Primary Liability Insurance - Which States Require It?

What others have said is the same here in CA. The guy next to me in our storage lot hit my MH while backing his TT into his space. His auto insurance carrier is covering the damage.

RE: Memorial day

Had to cancel our plans. The guy in the space next to my RV at the storage lot backed into my rig, all the way from the front to the back. He did a pretty good job when he hit the slide out and it's so out of wack that I can't open it. It's going into the shop next friday for estimates and repairs

RE: Yosemite NP

Sounds like a great visit ... we will be in that area next month. Is it hard to find a place
In the valley.....almost impossible. However, there are a bunch of 1st come-1st served campgrounds and we have always been able to get a site there. Our favorite and one that takes bigger RVs is Bridalveil Creek. One of the biggest advantages is the temp. When the valley is 90-100 degrees, it's in the low 80s up there.
If you can arrive on a sunday or monday, you will be able to find a site.
This was our site at Bridalveil:

RE: Benchmark RV Center, Sun Valley, CA????????

Thanks for the replies. There are only two RV body shops that I know of near me.
The closest is Coast RV in Aguora Hills. However, there is only one review I can find and it is really bad. Plus, I have visited their shop before to get a part and was basically ignored. I had trouble finding someone to help me and wasn't impressed at all.
The other is Benchmark RV which is much bigger and 35 miles away!!

RE: Yosemite NP

Yeah, Sept will be hot, like Aug. I would bring a car if you have time and really want to see the park. The shuttle is only the valley and IMHO, that is a very small portion of the park to visit.
IF you go to the website and click on http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/touring.htm it will list areas to visit.
You will want to visit Glacier Point, especially at night. You can look across the valley and see el capitan. One time, there were climbers camping the night on the face of el capitan and my kids were exchanging flash light flashes with them. They thought that was great!!
Take a drive up Tioga Pass and go to tenaya lake, Very beautiful
This is Tenaya Lake:

Yeah, last year was spectactular. By the looks of that photo, the flow is starting to get a little thin. Probably will be dry very early this year.

RE: Neighbor hit my MH!!!

So glad to read a post where the guy hit has a good attitude. Seems like there is not much of that anymore. I hope all gets fixed, and you can still get the unit sold.
I agree. I told him that I appreciated him stepping up. Doesn't happen that often anymore. I would have really been upset had I just shown up and found the damage on my own. It would be a much harder road proving fault.

RE: Neighbor hit my MH!!!

Maybe the guy that hit your MH could just buy it from you at your asking price, then have it fixed and sell it himself. That way he absorbs the loss, and your worrys are solved.
Jim
Now THAT is a win-win solution!!!!
I've talked to my adjuster. Because it is a toy hauler and there is no liability coverage on it, the claim will be going through his auto insurance carrier due to it being towed at the time.
My concern is that he is insured through Mercury and they do not cover RVs. So, they have no experience when it comes to the kind of damage that is unique to RVs....slides, etc. Thus, I'm going through my insurance coverage with Progressive, letting them examine the damage and process the claim. I will still fight for every little thing to be fixed, but at least they understand the type of damages I'm facing

RE: Neighbor hit my MH!!!

Yeah, all valid concerns and thus, I'm going to go with the shop my insurance recommends. The adjuster told me it would get priority and all the work is guaranteed for life.

Good points, thanks everyone. Bob and searfoss, that's my biggest concern....the slide. It has never leaked. If it isn't aligned correctly then I start to see motor troubles down the road. ARRRRR

RE: Neighbor hit my MH!!!

Yes, option one--let Progressive handle the claim and subrogate against the neighbors insurance. Option two, let the other insurance company deal with the claim directly.
In both instances you now have an accident on your record with Progressive. Admittedly a "not at fault" accident, uncharged to your policy UNTIL the "frequency" bugaboo rears it's ugly head somewhere down the road. Does it always happen--No. Could it happen--Yes.
I spent 30 years advising insureds when or when not to file a claim under these circumstances because I know how accident information is used for new business and renewal underwriting.
Some times the old advice "Let a sleeping dog lie." is appropriate to insurance claims.
That's exactly how she put it to me (minus the insider advice you've provided). Because it had the potential to get very hard to prove anything should the guy stop cooperating, I decided to call Progressive and let them handle it. She has already interviewed the guy. He has acknowledged that it was his fault, and she has already contacted his insurance.
How do you recommend I proceed from there? She said I could let them handle it through my policy. I would get priority at one of their shops and all work would be fully covered for life of RV.
Is there any difference from my perspective as to which way to go since either way is a "not at fault" on my insurance....I mean what is the downside of going through my policy??

RE: Neighbor hit my MH!!!

Is this true? If someone does a shoddy repair job, I can foresee your insurance company turning down any subsequent claims very quickly! After all, how can you prove anything after repair work has been done? sometimes it doesn't pay to be the "nice guy"....... I would recommend that the OP to everything possible to protect himself.
My advice, since there is plenty of time to notify your insurance if and when the other company does not perform to your standard, is to NOT involve your own insurance unless it is necessary.
Yup, that's my thinking as well. I have Progressive and already contacted them. Adjusted just called me and got info. She says I have two options:

RE: Neighbor hit my MH!!!

Your estimate may be fairly accurate.
I'm concerned about the slide. If you look at this photo, you can see how part of it is pushed completely against the MH. It was never like that, there was alway a gap similar to what you see above due to the gasket. Plus, if you look further back, you can see the how the bottom edges angle in where he hit it at he back of the slide.

RE: Neighbor hit my MH!!!

I can see, if this is a trailer and not a MH, where he wouldn't have known he was scraping down the side if he was backing in at an angle where he couldn't see the side of your MH. You'd be surprised how much this happens with 18 wheelers, since you can't hear anything strange since you're not inside the trailer. I highly doubt he felt anything. He was scraping down the side, not smashing into it.
That being said, I'd don't think I'd ever want to back up a trailer without a spotter.
yeah, makes sense. I agree though, I never backed without a spotter. Funny, the previous weekend I had it home doing some work and when I got back to the lot, the video screen on my backup camera wouldn't pop out, so I had to have the DW spot me.
There is no more than 2' between us when we park and you cannot come straight back because there are RV's across the lot in front of us. You must come in at an angle and adjust. Seems rather dumb to try this without a spotter.
