RE: Why did tire blow

I worked in a hugh tire warehouse many years ago. This was back when Firestone was a very well known tire. I saw a Firestone tire one time with a bolt molded in the sidewall.
Had it got put on a car who knows how many miles it might have gone before blowing, and if it ever would blow.

RE: Another way to carry a unmounted spare tire

Well, how does he secure it? Tie raps, chains, weld it, super glue?
I get nothing from this post other than confusion.
I'm sorry the post was confusing to you. There are so many chassis out there I figured most could figure away to attach the tire only. If Super Glue works for you then you have figured it out. My main point was using the tube to keep the dirt and water out of the tire.

I get nothing from this post other than confusion.Me too! Because many DPs would not have room under the coach. I know I would not. No frame rails under there either. All flat and enclosed except in front of front axle and behind rear axle, and can't put it in either of those areas either. I have two choices - in a compartment or on the roof.
On the roof might work well with a tube in the tire to cut down on the weight. It would be easier to get up there and down.

RE: 3 year old Winne leak finally found

Did it stain your ceiling fabric?
It did not stain the ceiling. The opening was just about even with the top of the windshield only around on the side a little.

Another way to carry a unmounted spare tire

I was talking to a fellow camper today about carrying a spare tire for a motorhome. He was telling me of a person he knew that carried their unmounted spare under the motorhome. It's unmounted so it weights less than half what a mounted spare weights. The neat part is the guy inflates a tube in the tire to keep the water & dirt out. It sounded to me like a good idea, just though I would pass it along.

Ford lug size

What size socket on the Ford lug nuts on the 22.5 rims? A 1-5/16" socket seems a little sloppy is it a metric?

Norcold 12xx series question

When our Norcold 4 door 1211 series fridge was new we use to run on number 4 and the freezer stayed around 0 degrees and the fridge at around 38. Going on 3 years later we have inched the number up to 6 to keep the same temperature range. What number are others using? And has that been the number you have always used?? Reason I ask is because we use to hear the fans on the back of the fridge when they started and we no longer do. A few days back our recall box failed and a new one was installed. RV dealer said there is no way to check the fans without removing the fridge. I didn't ask seeing it's still under warranty who would pay the bill to check the fans. By the time hot weather gets here maybe causing the fridge to fail if the fans do not work it will be out of warranty. Any Ideas on that one??

RE: 2012 Winnebago Adventurer

Being a Ford chassis owner for the third time, I suggest all Ford Chassis owners read this info on this site: Handling fix before spending any $$$'s on after market fixes. This is a no cost fix for most as most can make the fix themselves. And if for some reason after doing it you don't think the handling is better you can change it back to original and go buy all the after market products you wish.

RE: Adding king mattress

Depending on how your bedroom slide out is you may have to watch the length of the new mattress. When we changed ours from Queen to King length was our problem so we had to order a 80" long mattress.

RE: Fuel Stops for Gas?

I have found most gas stations can be used, but you have to learn what to look for and how to approach the pumps. I usually wait for a outside row of pumps to clear, then pull up to the pump leaving a several feet between me and the pump. By staying out away from the pump and being on the outside row it allows you more room to get out around the pump to leave. I never worry about blocking other pumps or traffic.

RE: Lug Nuts (Torque)

I'm a bit confused- is this the spare?
You say the shop broke the bead while moving it "under the door"- is the repair of that what you want inspected?
Or:
If you're installing this wheel/tire on your rig and you want to make sure of the torquing of the lugnuts at that point...
As youve already discovered, many tire shops use impact wrenches that get within what they consider the right range for wheels...
in fact, it's my understanding that very few actually use torque wrenches when installing wheels on any vehicle.
If you want to be ultra sure of your torque, you might buy your own 600 lb. torque wrench, widely available!
Here's a link to one for around $70.00 0-600 lb. torque wrench
We have one like that and it's a bit of a beast to use...
I've heard that torque multipliers work pretty well, and are easier to use than the straight 600 lb. torque wrench.
And here's an el cheapo from Harbor freight that looks interesting
Lug Nut multiplier/remover
Hard to believe that it would work at that price, but you never know!
The link for the torque wrench is only a 600 inch pound, not even close to what the OP needs.

RE: RV Antifreeze Disappeared

If you have a hose that sucks the rv anti freeze out of the jug and you used it and if you have at the city water connection a valve maybe marked city/tank and it's switched to tank the anti freeze will go in the fresh water tank.

RE: Trickle charger or hooked up

As our onboard charger seems to over charge and boil the water off I like to use a timer and leave ours plugged in 24/7. I just use a low cost timer from a discount store, then set it to come on some were between a hour or 2 at day. It keeps my batteries charged and I don't have to worry about the batteries getting low on water even if it sits for months at a time.
