RE: A look in the mirror the way RVers are sometimes viewed...

Please don't turn this in to a "Irish Pub Fight"! Merely an observation and friendly attempt to wake some of us up! This is a newspaper Quote-"I recently attended the Tradex RV Show and was appalled by the number of older, overweight couples that were there. If you need help up the three steps into an RV, doesn’t that tell you and your spouse that the money should be spent on your health issues first, so that you could enjoy your RV longer? Don’t these people love each other enough to help themselves? Eighty per cent is an outrageous number of older people to be overweight Don't know where you've been camping but I certainly don't agree with these numbers and observations. Looks about right in the RV parks I've been in and Walmart. According to a study done by Boston's Univiersity of Medicine 90 percent of seniors are overweight. My mobility has been limited due to my disability and keeping the weight down is a challenge from a few years ago, I just have to watch my diet more.

RE: Trip Planning on a IMAC

I use Garmin's Road Trip to plan my trips, which appears to be replaced with Garmin Base camp and upload routes to the GPS. If I'm just searching overall I'll use google maps.

RE: iPhone User Sues Apple over Siri

Voice to text is COMPLETELY different then Siri. :R Apple's text to speech works 100% of the time also. You need to learn the difference between Siri and text to speech before bashing a beta product. Not text to speech. Speech to text. But it doesn't matter either direction...it is not completely different than Siri and it certianly does not work 100% of the time. Not even close. It's part of Siri. If you turn Siri off, then speech to text and text to speech is gone. If you have a iP4 then you do not have voice to text because you do not have Siri. Do you have a 4S? I would venture a no. If you did, you would know this. I hate it when people that don't have a 4S try to tell people that DO have a 4S how great Siri is. I love my 4S and wouldn't trade it for anything....well....maybe a 4S with a bigger screen...but Siri is not even close to reliable. Just doesn't feel like an Apple product. Not polished at all and only works part of the time. Rushed is what it feels like. But marketed as a polished super great, can't live without feature. I knew someone would jump all over the beta thing. Apple does NOT market it as beta. They have entire commercials dedicated to Siri and how fantastic it is. The commercials just show it working. "Remind me to do this again"....try that with Siri LOL Also notice that Apple has recently changed their web site to include the "Beta" tag next to Siri. That was not there just a month ago. The beta tag next to Siri has always been there on the website. HERE we are talking about the beta tag on the site last December. Siri uses the servers, speech to text does not on other devices like the Galaxy and GPS which was what I was responding to, Siri interoperates with other programs in the back ground, like dates book, email, maps, search engines, get directions, set reminders and gps, speech to text does not. Siri can set and invisible fence around your location and set off a reminder when you cross that barrier, speech to text does not. Now not that I said how great Siri is, but pointing out the FACT that it's a beta and it's different then Speech to text. Which is clearly obvious to most people. IT's a BETA. On the Siri page along with the BETA tag, "Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S and requires Internet access. " My GPS has Voice to text and it is NO WHERE NEAR 100%, there are many variables, like road noise, pronunciation and speed. It also have a very limited vocablulary.

RE: Lightroom 4 Released

Just upgraded to PSE 10 and I must say it does an excellent job on some panoramics I shot. Truly outstanding. I tried 2 other programs, one which was PTGUI (a bench mark for panoramic stiching), and PSE 10 blew it out of the water. The photo had A LOT of moving objects and not one single ghosted image that I could find. Easily found in the other 2. PSE 10 is very good.

RE: iPhone User Sues Apple over Siri

My gripe is that the phonecos don't tell you Siri lives in California and talking with her uses a lot of data, which can easily cost a lot of money. DW gets 0.5 GB with her $50 a month plan. She has stayed well within that so far. The cost of exceeding it is $100 per GB. "The tasks We performed six tasks that would be considered to be local tasks. These queries included things like, "Set an alarm for 3 hours from now," "Make an appointment for 2pm on Friday" (and then telling Siri to cancel the task), "Remind me to file expense reports when I get home," and "What is the contact info for Ars Technica?" The five other tasks were ones that required lookups online—some of them were questions that Siri could get from Wolfram Alpha, while others prompted us to continue to search on the Web (thereby bringing up a Google search page with the wording that we had asked Siri). Some sample questions included "How many calories in a muffin?", "How many movies has Kevin Bacon been in?" (this required a Google lookup, which we said yes to), and "What is Lady Gaga's real name?" These five tasks added up to a total of 473.5KB of data use, or an average of 94.72KB per query. The range went from 23KB to 187KB, depending on the question at hand. In total, our 11 queries added up to 693.6KB, or an average of 63KB per query. As you can see above, Siri tasks that are local to the phone appear to require less data than ones that need further lookups on the Internet, which makes sense. In addition to these 11 queries, we also performed four text dictations through Siri—two short e-mails (one was roughly 15 words and the other 40) and two text messages (6-10 words apiece). The text messages came in at 18KB and 12KB for an average of 15KB) and the e-mails came in at 36KB and 109KB, respectively, for an average of 72.5KB. Clearly, the longer the message, the more data will be used, and this will depend entirely upon your own wordiness. These tasks added up to a total of 220KB of data usage, or an average of 36.7KB per query. The actual numbers ranged from 60KB down to 18KB, and we believe this is correlated to the complexity of the specific query and language we used to perform it. If you use Siri 2-3 times per day at an average of 63KB per instance, you might expect to use 126KB to 189KB per day, or 3.7 to 5.5MB per month. For 4-6 times a day, that might come out to 252KB to 378KB per day, or 7.4 to 11MB per month. If you use it 10-15 times per day, you might end up using 630KB to 945KB per day, or 18.5 to 27.7MB per month. " Not a lot of data. Doesn't matter where the servers are located. Are the servers in Cali or S.C.?

RE: iPhone User Sues Apple over Siri

Heck my GPS voice to text works 100% of the time. You'd think Apple could at least come close to a lowly GPS technology. :B:B My Galaxy nexus speech to text works flawlessly... hmmm Voice to text is COMPLETELY different then Siri. :R Apple's text to speech works 100% of the time also. You need to learn the difference between Siri and text to speech before bashing a beta product. People will sue for anything, I suspect he missed the fact that its a BETA and not a finished product. This suit will go down in flames as it's a BETA and clearly states that, with many associated disclaimers. Then of course any product will have a problem with the way people butcher the english language, the many accents it has to deal with and regional slang.

RE: washington DC to KOA Newburgh New York

You can take 287 up through NJ, which connects to the NYS thruway North to Newburg. Newburg to Hoboken is a big drive. You'll have to come back down 287 and then pick various routes to get to Hoboken, probably a couple of hour drive. 287 in Rockland county backs up on every week end, usually starting in Suffern which will still give you the option of 287. 287 backs up every day from Newburg to Monroe, just stay well away from Rush hour. Define bridge? At some point, unless you go WAY out of your way you'll have to cross some sort of bridge. You're going to cross a bridge to get into NYC. You'd be better off staying at Liberty Park, Croton or one of the campgrounds out in Western NJ. But, to avoid the Delaware bridge I'd get on 81N from DC to 78 east , 287 North to NYS thruway North to Newburg. There is a decent campground in Florida New York that is closer. Black Bear campground in Florida.

RE: Reservations vs. No Reservations - what are the factors?

We have NEVER make advanced plans. We will make a reservations if we are en-route to that location, usually the same day or the day before. We have wandered into Cape Cod on 4th of July weekend and got laughed at on the phone looking for a spot, but we eventually found one. It just take a little persistence. We got into Yellowstone during the busiest time without a problem. There is often a number of cancellations and sometimes you have to call back a couple of times. We couldn't do it any other way. We dictate our schedule, we don't let the schedule dictate to us. Plus, we're too busy saying, "hey look at that, oh look at that, lets go look". We carry a number of campground books and it's the wife job to find us a campground. It't not for everyone, some people just go nuts without a schedule, reservation and plans. When we leave we have a list of things we want to see, possible area campgrounds and a direction. After that it's anyone's guess where we will end up and how we'll get there. For us the trip there is half the fun.

RE: Herkimer,NY Campgrounds?

We stayed at Herkimer KOA. Park is just okay. Workers were rude and nasty. Ask one a question you'll get one answer, ask another you'll get another. They tried to scam us for a 3 day minimum stay. The water had a strong sulfur smell and the electric was around 95 volts. Go to Ace of Diamonds , Diamond Mine instead of Herkimer Diamond mine if you want to hunt for diamonds.

RE: lots of iphone and itunes questions

Well you got some correct answers and wrong answer. 1. you're correct DO NOT let iTunes organize and it will stay on your computer where you want it. I let iTunes do it and it's no big deal as iTunes become the interface of the music and I can search it in any many of ways. 2. iTunes downloads will go into the iTunes folder and it will organize, but you can search music between your files and iTunes files and it will be seamless within iTunes. 3. The iTunes store is in 2 formats, both AAC aka MP4. Downgrading them to MP3 would be like coverting your DVDs to VHS. It's time to embrace the newer better format, there is a big difference. 4. iPhones play Mp3's just find and there is no conversion. 5. You can do either, just set up automatic sync or manual 6. New music is on Apple's servers and when you connect to the clound it will download to various devices when they are signed into iCloud. There are many ways to customize iTunes and the cloud as your prefer. iTunes is a very good program when it is set to do what you want it to do. Many people hate it as they never change from the default settings and thus believe it takes over everything . You can easily make iTunes do what you want to do with a few clicks. Just curious what is different in the way your organize then iTunes? iTunes organizes music folders first into one Music folder then by Artist and then by each album by that artist. The iTunes interface gives you 41 options to sort through your music with a simple click and it's instant. Far faster then any method you would do to sort.

RE: Lightroom 4 Released

I didn't like the scam Adobe ran. They ran Lightroom 3 on sale for $149 and said it was a limited time and then released Lightroom 4 at the same price. Elements and Lightroom have different purposes. WHile they can both do some of the same things, they each can do different things the the other can not do. I have elements, Lightroom and Aperture at this time. Elements I use for big edits. I like some of the features of Lightroom, but not enough to dump Aperture. I like Lightroom's split toning and lens correction,as well as the key stoning correction. Although DXO does a better job of lens correction. This puts is slightly ahead of Aperture right now. But, it doesn't have the the ability to add multiple correction layers like Aperture. But, for $149 it's a no brainer. I find myself using Topaz labs more and more for edits and use the host program as a catalog.

RE: Glad I never bought an iPad...

If you always waited for the "newer version" you would never own any technology. I have the original iPad and it's been all over the world and the US helping us along the way. Would I have waited the 2 years for the iPad 3? NEVER, enjoyed the iPad too much. When you want a piece of technology then buy it and enjoy there will ALWAYS be a newer model to replace a short time down the line.

RE: Uploading to YouTube

You've completely missed the point and stating the obvious. The point was to watch both videos at 360p. It's obvious that the 720p video is going to have a quality advantage. So why is it even necessary to compare images from a 720p versus a 360p capture? Plus, I doubt someone watching a YouTube video from an email link is even going to care about a screen capture comparison to determine video frame sharpness. :S If you upload at 360p then the viewer has only one option and that is to watch a fuzzy video. It's YOUR assumption that people watch only on mobile devices or is the target audience, hence the comparison of quality for the OP to decide whether or not his wished to take extra steps in down covering. :R

RE: yellowstone camping

West Yellowstone without a doubt. People think if you stay in the park you are saving miles and gas, which is not true. You do the park in loops. For example, fishing bridge is farther away from Old faithful then West Yellowstone (40 miles from FB vs 31miles form WY), yet mammoth is the same distance from either.. Pick one of the first come first serve campgrounds in the park if you want to be in the park. We stayed at fishing bridge and will never stay there again. We were 12" from from our neighbor in the back, it's horribly over crowded. The first come first serve campgrounds don't give you full hook ups, but you get plenty of space and privacy, they are really nice. West Yellowstone gives you convenient modern amenities.

RE: Uploading to YouTube

Actually your first link goes to the 480p Version Once you change it to 720p the difference is HUGE. Just the opening of the guy in the grey jacket, in the 720p version you can clearly see the difference. http://creeperscobra.com/drop/Screen%20Shot%202012-03-06%20at%208.34.30%20PM.jpg http://creeperscobra.com/drop/Screen%20Shot%202012-03-06%20at%208.37.09%20PM.jpg Here you can see the guy in the foreground is fuzzy for the SD version and the guys in the field are blurry. The OP might want to find somewhere they have free Wifi with faster uploads.
