RE: Planning vacation near Dollywood TN - Aug 20th

We never used the trolley at River Plantation. So, I can't comment on that. Also, when the boys were younger, they really liked the aquarium in Gatlinburg. They also liked to go to Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge.

RE: Planning vacation near Dollywood TN - Aug 20th

I would have to put a vote in for River Plantation. We have stayed in many parks in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. Have never heard the concrete plant when we have stayed at River Plantation. Very nice park. The sites are some of the largest in the area. We stayed on one of the signature sites last time we were there, and the site was huge. Most of the cgs pack you in like sardines, and I didn't feel packed in at River Plantation. They have a very nice pool for the kids. Plus, with kids, it is very near the Nascar Park and a huge outlet mall. The traffic can get really bad in Pigeon Forge, there are some back roads you can take. If you are going to be there for a whole week, you really have to go into the National Park, and experience all that it has to offer. Cades cove is beautiful, and there are lots of nice hiking trails. I have some pics of River Plantation and Tremont Hills. Tremont is in Townsend on the National Park side of the Smokeys, alot more laid back.

RE: St. Joseph Peninsula ...

Looks very nice! What site is that? I really want to go to St. Joe, but am worried about what sites we will fit into. It is hard to look at the sites, and know which to reserve. So, we end up going to Destin every year. I know the cgs there and which sites to reserve. Love Destin, but have never been to St. Joe, and would love to go to that area of FL.

RE: question about tennessee state parks

Depends on when you are going, and what parks you are thinking of visiting. Maybe someday TN state parks will get up to date and have reservations online like everyone else does. What parks are you interested in?

RE: Fall Creek Falls, TN

FCF is our favorite, close to home, cg. None of the campsites have the scenic mountain view that you are probably thinking of, you have to go outside into the park for that. My favorite campsites are not reservable. My favorite loop is E, w/e only. Favorite site is 216. D loop is big-rig friendly, but is also non-reservable, it has FHU. Loop A has reservable sites, sites 6-9 are nice and located across from the playground, and new bathhouse. B loop also has sites that can be reserved. We usually drive over on Thursday and try to get a spot for the weekend. It fills up during the Summer. You will not be disappointed in Fall Creek, beautiful park. Unfortunantely, the TN State Park system is way behind the times in offering online reservations. I would plan to arrive mid-week, and drive through the park. Most of the best sites are not reservable. I have a more detailed site map in the camper that I can get if you like, let me know.

RE: Never thought I would be asking about Topsail Hill

Sites 144 or 101, very close to bathroom, and cabins. Site 91 is as close to the cabins as you can get, but a little farther from the bath house. We really like site 144. You can get into any of these with no problem.

RE: fla. campgrounds

Your rig would not be to big for either Topsail Hill or Henderson Beach in Destin. Topsail has FHU, Henderson does not. Both are beautiful cgs.

RE: Destin, Fl Campgrounds

I tried a search but came up empty on my question.
I have been checking on Henderson State park. Seems very nice.
wondering about how far the campsites are from the beach. easy walking distance? thanks
Henderson has a paved trail from the campsites to the beach, seems like it is about 1/4 mile. We always ride our bikes, not far at all. They also have 2 great day use areas right on the beach not far from the front gate. You can easily bike or drive to those. Beautiful cg, I have some pics in my photos.

RE: Henderson Beach State Park, Destin, FL

Beautiful park. We go regularly to both Henderson and Topsail. We like each for different reasons. You cannot beat the location of Henderson. Very convenient to stores and restaurants. Most of the sites are huge, and very private. I have some pics in my photos. I also saw your post on Topsail. Split your time between the two cgs if you want to stay a month. Both are very nice.

RE: First time in Gatlinburg!

River Plantation is our favorite. Right at entrance to Pigeon Forge. Not sure about the trolley, but it is a really nice cg., and the kids would really like the pool. I have some pics in my photos. The signature sites on the rive are really big, and nice. Close to good shopping and the nascar park.

RE: Lot #57 at Topsail State Park

Topsail is great! All of the sites are nice. One of the prettiest beaches I have been to. 3 miles of beach, no condos. Sometimes we would be down there and not see anyone else on the beach. As stated, get a trailer to haul behind your bike to take all of your stuff. The shuttle is also handy. You will have a great time!I have some pics in my photos.

RE: Florida keys and Key West RV park suggestions?

Curry Hammock has sites available in that time frame, although, you will have to change sites to get all your days. It would be worth it, very nice park. I have some pics in my photos. Have fun!

RE: CG in Destin Area

Henderson does not have a pool, but it is a really nice cg, probably the nicest in the Destin area. So close to everything, and my favorite cg. Topsail is also nice, and does have a pool. Keep checking, they might have a cancellation. Camping on the Gulf has a pool, very pricey, and very tight. I would give up the pool, and keep checking on cancellations for Henderson, Topsail, or Grayton.

RE: Too late to book a Gulf Coast vacation in June?

Just looked at Topsail, they do have some sites for the first week of June. A couple are in the 50's, I would choose those. Topsail is very nice, you would not be disappointed. Grayton is just down the road from Topsail, it also has a nice beach. My first choice would be Topsail with Grayton as a back-up. I have some pics of Topsail in my photos. We go to Topsail or Henderson every fall. Both are my favorites.

If you want all paved sites, try Topsail Hill. Beautiful cg, and one of my favorites. We like the 100's section.

Outer Banks

Have never been to the Outer Banks, and have always wanted to go. Looking at April, spring break for my Son. Looking at Camp Hatteras, KOA,and Ocean Waves. Any of you who have been there, dont that. Need suggestions for the best campground, and sites to suggest.

RE: Key West March 2012

I would possibly look at vrbo.com. These rentals are by the owners, and usually less expensive. Although, Key West will still be expensive expecially in March. However, I have had good luck with vrbo for those non-camping vacations.
