RE: cat wound

Well, what happened? How is kitty?
Iris
Coffee is great. We put warm compresses on her wound and then it broke open and rendered some nasty stuff. I gently encouraged it to come out. It seeped for a couple days and then stopped. I did not take her to the vet because I decided to wait and see if it began to fill up with fluid again. If it did I would then know she truely needed antibiotics. But it is healing nicely so far. It does not appear to be getting reinfected but if it does we will take her in for sure.
Thank you for asking. :)

RE: cat wound

I'm wondering if we will need to at all now.
Deb
Yes. The danger is that the skin will seal over and two weeks from now you'll be in the same place. Minimum she needs antibiotics.
I see. It continues to seep. The wound is high on her thigh. I don't think I can wrap it. I will take her in the AM.
Good day all and thank you for talking me through this. :o)

RE: cat wound

Ok, We did the warm moist compresses and after a while it began to ozzz. With very gentle presure all the puss came out. So now what? We put her in a well ventilated cage so the extra ozz would not get on the furniture. I rince the outside with saline and she is resting on a clean soft sheet. SHe keeps licking it. So I don't really know what to do at this point. Maybe there is nothing more to do. It seems so much better than before. Still at best we can't see our vet for 17 more hours. I'm wondering if we will need to al all now.
Thanks Dr. Doug....

RE: cat wound

Don't use peroxide much anymore, except to clean around the wound/abscess. We ususally flush with a non-irritating solution, usually saline. Sometimes if it's real infected betadine initially.
Soak the foot/leg or wrap in a warm moist towel for as long as you can manage, 5-10 minutes each time. The best thing is to get her in now.
Tomorrow morning is the first they can see her. If she was bit by another cat it would have been over a week ago. I will do the warm compress again. I did that about an hour aqo. Thanks for the info.

RE: cat wound

Found it at Petsmart tape
We actually have some of this in the house. I'm going to see if I can get it to stay on the area.

RE: cat wound

Get a roll of no stick tape. Don't know the name of it right now, but it is about 2 inches wide and comes in several colors(my Bliss likes blue). Should be able to find it in a pet shop, it sticks to itself but not to the fur or wound.
Great idea! Thanks

RE: If you could have one car back

Funny I found this thread because we just bought back the same car we bought brand new 21 years ago. Its was a shiney new 1991 Honda Civic sitting there in the show room. My first new car! We brought it home Christmas Eve and had it for 10 years at which time we sold it to my mom and dad. We had 4 children by this time and totally grew out of it. They had it 8 years and sold it to my brother. He had it 3 years and we just bought it back from him for $350.00. It still only has 88,000 miles on it. Its a 4 speed and my teens are learning to drive it now. Its kinda like Herby The Love Bug come back to us! :B
We originally bought it for 7,200.ITs not as shiney and new but the engine is still going strong!

cat wound

Hello all,
I just discovered my cat has a swollen place on her leg. There is a rawish area in the middle where the fur has been licked off or the original injury was made. I know she came face to face with a neighborhood cat the other night but I didnt know if there was contact made between them before I brought her in.
At this point she flinches at the least little contact. My vet can't see her until tomorrow. I put some antibiotic cream on it but she wants to lick it off. What should I do?
I think it's an abscess.
Once when my other cat got a cat bit on her cheek and it resulted in an abscess, the Doc stuck a pointy syring into it and squirted peroxid into it. The puss bubbled out with the peroxide and it got better. I did this several more times at home on said wound.
I wonder if I should try this on my other cat now?
I'm just afraid to wait unitl tomorrow. I suppose I should.Deb

RE: Emergency! Parakeet escape.need ideas

Wild birds grow a down feather insulation to keep warm. One just released from captivity would not have been exposed to the changes in weather which triggers the feather growth. I am not sure if parakeets even grow down. Tell the kids he hooked up with a flock of geese and is on his way to Mexico for the summer.
Iris
Yes I agree. I'm sure he did not survive. But we frequently refer to him as living in Florida now.
Hard lesson learned.

RE: Emergency! Parakeet escape.need ideas

Yes, I am sure he is gone forever. We have three parakeets left. We had unusually warm weather at the time of his escapeso maybe he did have time to fly south to warmer weather. At least thats what we have been telling ourselves.
There is no way for him to survive this very cold weather we have here now, him being a tropical bird and all. Although don't you wonder how all the other birds around here do.
Chistmas bird? No, we have three other parakeets left that will have to do for now. Besides they are all asking for a puppy!

RE: I guess I'm now one of "those parents"

Maybe there is a "Bankrupt Barbie", with little miniature over extended credit cards along with a mailbox full of over due notices. That way the child can learn what spending too much is like. :B:S
:B lol :B Thats just what I was thinking.

RE: Whacha readin' now?

I am reading The Cell by Stephen King which is the book that started this topic. I am usually far behind in the books that I read as I buy most of mine second hand. I got it in 2008 at 2 for 25@ and just got around to reading it.
King is not my favorite author so it just sat on the shelf until last night when I was getting rid of books and found it. I should have read it right away.
And why isn't there a cent symbol on the keyboard? Or is there and I do not know about it.
No cent sign. Just type $.25

RE: Well, I apologize...;

I have often wondered about pot lucks when at a RV rally. One year at one of our rallies, I made my famous "chocolate covered peanut butter balls" along with cookies, macaroons, and a few other things. I put a sign in front of each goodie with the name of it. Clearly putting CHOCOLATE COVERED PEANUT BUTTER BALLS.. After just a few minutes, I hear one of our members yelling that I could have killed him. He did not eat one but said that if he hadn't have read the sign, he would have died and I should have told him or not put them out in case he didn't see the sign.
He made such a scene that I vowed never to serve them again at a rally.
I think you went over and above your duty. But I commend you for going the extra mile. You showed compassion and concern for your fellow stranger. As for not putting them out again, I think you could and should. People with alergies should not be randomly putting things into their mouths. The truth is He would have killed himself, not you.

RE: Well, I apologize...;

This is the best post here and IMO, MM should not have apologized. It is NOT my responsibility to change MY habits or actions just because you or yours have a problem. Look after yourself and leave the rest of the population out of YOUR problem or cause.
No - I gently disagree. If you want to ride a motorcycle without a helmet - fine. But if something *I* do could kill a person (like adding peanuts to the Rice Krispie Treats) - then I see nothing wrong with accommodating that? And if I had to say to my child - "you shouldn't take Peanut Butter Cups to school for lunch because your friend X is allergic to peanuts" - hopefully my child has learned a bit of compassion, too.
I think his apology is for being curt and abrasive in the way he presented his opinion and for offending the other individual. If he feels the need to retract the manner in which he projected, I agree the apology was appropriate.
