RE: CW Shipping = RIDICULOUS....customer service is even worse.

Sluggo, Next day Saturday AM delivery is the highest delivery charge of all!!!!!!! They figure anyone who wants something that bad will pay whatever it takes. FedEx actually runs three types of delivery trucks for residential deliveries. Express, which is what you got is the fastest and most expensive, Ground and then Home. FedEx Home Delivery which is the slowest delivery FedEx has makes normal ground deliveries in the evenings and Saturday.

RE: Has any one used Carlisle tires?

Carlisle makes many grades of tires. Many RV companies are notorious for buying the cheapest tires they can buy for OEM tires often using the cheapest Carlisle's they can get. The result is Carlisle often gets the blame for the trailer manufacturers overloading cheap tires. I have owned properly loaded and properly graded Carlisle tires and pulled them thousands of miles with no issues. I have also owned overloaded OEM Carlisle tires that came with the trailer and had blowouts.

RE: Saw This Flying Around Palmdale, Ca Yesterday

We ride a bike trail near Wright Pat and it is not unusual to have one fly over on approach. It can spook you if the wind is right, it will cast one heck of a shadow over you before you hear it.

RE: Huntington, IN Campgrounds

What is your max distance you are willing to stay from Huntington? Here is a LINK for some private campgrounds in the area. I have not stayed in any of them. If you are willing to drive some I can give you some other suggestions of parks that I have stayed at.

RE: Sanibel Island Florida

There is a campground on the island but you can not take you pets. We have never stayed there for that reason. Bugs It is called Periwinkle Park and it will accepts pets if your pet is a cat! Sorry, no dogs.

RE: Rafting in Ohiopyle PA / Laurel Highlands

We have not camped in the area but we have used the bike trail. It is one of the most beautiful scenic trails we have experienced and do plan on a return trip with the TT.

RE: CW Shipping = RIDICULOUS....customer service is even worse.

I have, when passing through, been in chnook507's CW. He may or may not be correct that the folks there are rude. I wouldn't know; after a half hour in the store I was unable to make contact with anyone. It's not so much the shipping costs that are aggravating, it's the extra charges that get attached. Last spring I shipped a package from Columbia, MO to Ft Collins, CO. It was less than five pounds, approx 2.5" x 10" x 8". It was an electronic item in its original shipping packaging, which was as new (not previously shipped). It absolutely, positively, etc. The local FedEx store was open, but the computer system was down. They couldn't weigh it, they couldn't tell me a price, nada. Didn't matter; it had to go. I left them my card number and went on my merry way. Several weeks later I noticed that there had been no charge to my card. Another week, a bill caught up with me - for $87.00! Included was a charge because the packaging wasn't up FedEx standards (no, when it arrived it had NOT been repacked). There was an $11.20 fuel surcharge. There was an $11.00 charge for billing me because I did not have an account w/FedEx. Grudgingly, I paid the bill - except the no account surcharge. Wasn't my fault their system was down, nor my fault the staff didn't charge the card number left with them, at their suggestion. Sluggo I have never in my life heard of Fed Ex shipping on a five pound item being $87.00. There was obviously some error becuase this is not their standard shipping rates. I would not have paid it without escalating that one up the chain. You mentioned $11 charge for no account and an $11 fuel surcharge. Something doesn't add up, what was the other $65 charge for? Five pound packages do not ship for $65. I also don't understand "packaging not up to fed ex standards". You put items in one of their bags or boxes. Why didn't you just put your item in the mailer when you left it with them? But I never would have left my package with them either, not until they gave me a receipt. I just do not trust Fed Ex much more than I do the PO. Once I have a tracking number I WOULD trust them much more than the PO, but not until then. Sounds like it went next day AM delivery, that could generate that kind of charge.

RE: New/used Silverado 2500HD 6.0L Gasser

Is it a crew cab ? You make want to consider the underseat storage box...gives you lots of space to carry extra items on board and out of sight. I'm not the OP, but I would like to know more about this storage idea. Any links? These are the ones from GM, which is what i bought : gm underseat The crew cab one holds a a great deal and doesnt interfere with rear passengers. You lose the flat floor when the seat is folded up, so if that is a big concern you may want to pass -or- use it unbolted for easy removal which is what i do. If you google chevy underseat storage you will find a few other options as well. I have one as well. I thought at the time I bought it that it was a bit pricey but now I wouldn't be without it.

RE: CW Shipping = RIDICULOUS....customer service is even worse.

It seems that no one considers that on top of the actual cost that the shipper (UPS etc) charges, the box wasn't free, the bubble wrap wasn't free, the tape to seal the box wasn't free, the person who put it in the box wasn't working for free. If you ship it with the flat rate post office box it isn't insured, there is no signature to prove it got there and quite a few people have no problem claiming that the mail lost it (when they didn't) and demand a refund or replacement. Unlike the mail, if you live in a rural area and there is no FedEx or UPS depot nearby the shipper pays a surcharge to get it there. I can ship a 1lb box to L.A. for $5.63 through UPS but the same box to central Alabama will cost me $11.54. Yes Amazon can be cheaper as well as other Internet sellers. Brick and mortar stores are at a disadvantage because of the additional overhead. Where would we be if all the brick and mortar stores closed and you had to buy everything on line?

RE: RV Parking for the Super Bowl

PGR_sky, I had to go downtown Indy today for work. While it was a mess, it was very enjoyable. The so-called RV's that I saw near the Hurst plant were million dollar Prevost's. There may be a few common RV's rolling in, but I certainly didn't see any.

RE: Are trailer manufacturers unionized?

I would like ANYBODY to post a link explaining how Amish Workers build RV's without power tools, artificial light, or internal combustion engines. Plus how they keep from getting fiberglass stuck in their beards. Internal combustion engines are fine with them. Artificial light is OK as well. Many have solar panels and often have gas lamps. Power tools are OK as well as long as they are not electric. I sold a radial-arm saw to an Amish gentleman who converted it with a gasoline engine. Many have a telephone in what looks like an outhouse at the end of the driveway, some even have fax machines. Many have the misconception that the RV factores are these gleaming modern marvels, very few are. Most RV are assembled with air guns and not much else.

RE: Californian Moving To Ohio..Winterizing TT?

I would strongly suggest that you take 70 through Indiana to 75 in Dayton OH and then North. I80 in Northern Indiana is an expensive toll road and can get the lake effect snow in March. But.. this winter has been warm and very little snow. I certainly wish you a very safe an uneventful trip.

RE: Are trailer manufacturers unionized?

Nope, I never said anyone should be forced to join or pay. I just wouldn't ride on someone else's back. If I didn't like the rules I would work elsewhere.

RE: Are trailer manufacturers unionized?

Very few of the Mfgs or supplier are unionized. The new RTW law was shoved through without a public referendum. I am a business owner and many thing I'm nuts because I didn't agree with how the whole thing was handled. I think we should have been able to vote for or against it. I compare the whole RTW issue to buying a condo and refusing to pay the homeowners dues and expect to use the pool and still get the grass cut etc at no charge.

RE: Bike Carrier/There Must Be A Solution/Quality Important

I have the TopPop bike rack on the front of the RV. It works great. Check out the photos I posted in This thread. X2 I've had bikes in the truck, in the trailer, on the back of the trailer and now the trailer tongue mounted rack in the above clicky. The TopPop tongue mounted rack by far is the most trouble free system I have ever used.

It opens as a new browser page. If you have your security set to block pop ups it may not open. Right click the icon and choose open in a new page and you should be able to open it.
