RE: Rafting the Middle Fork Salmon River Idaho

My wife and I did that very same trip on the Middle Fork you are considering. It was about ten or twelve years ago with Tour West Outfitters. The raft trip was fantastic. Pitched our tents each night along the shore line and the tour guides cooked fabulous meals. The scenery was beautiful and even found some sandy beaches for a swim and lunch breaks. Also stopped along the way to enjoy a soothing soaking in a natural hot spring pool a short hike up the mountain side. Did a little fishing along the way too. The whole experience was great! :)

RE: Be aware of RV Service

Hi,
I own an automotive repair shop, and have mostly five star reviews. The few one or two star reviews were ALWAYS placed by clients (or former clients) that expected me to look into my "crystal ball" and tell them exactly what the intermittent no-start situation is, or "how much to fix the oil leak". There is ALWAYS two sides to every complaint. Sometimes the complaints are just unwarranted.
...Bob.
But when your tech spends 8 hours diagnosing something and then says that it can't be fixed and the customer takes it somewhere else and gets it fixed and is only charged 1 hour diagnostic fee - well, you've got a problem with a tech!!! And than you have a customer relations problem too.
And it could be after learning what the problem was from the first shop, then going to the second shop and telling the second shop what was found, could have cut down on their time it took for the second diagnosis to confirm what the problem was. Many details lacking to know the full story.

RE: I thought my Golden was done!

Yes, glucosamine and a daily dose of one aspirin (recommended by our Vet.) helped extend the quality of life for our Golden also. Until two weeks before what would have been his 15th birthday, cancer got the best of him and had to be put down. One of the saddest days of our lives.

RE: World's Oldest Known Motorhome, 4800 years old...really!

One of the older ones might have been a two horse covered wagon.
Then it would have been Two Horse Powered, but still not a Motorhome. :)

RE: Arctic Fox vs. Nash

Yes, I am curious too, about the negative statement about the wide body TTs.
The 2012 Arctic Fox 25S has my interest if I were to purchase a new trailer. It's a wide body (8'-6" wide) which is only 6" wider than standard. Being we do not want slide-outs, the little extra room would be a plus.

RE: F150, Truck of the Year

An F-150 is never gonna be an 2500 or 3500 series trucks, as much as the 1/2 ton crowd wants it to be. The axles, springs and tires are still only 1/2 ton components. 3/4 ton minimum for me, sorry ford.I don't think anyone disputes the fact that a F-150 will never be a 2500 or 3500. Nobody expects them to be. That's why the auto industry builds heavier pickup trucks along with the F-150. It's all about choices. My choice being a 2012 F-150 and not because Motor Trend named them "Truck of the Year". After all, Motor Trend also named Plymouth Volarie and Chevy Vega "Car of the Year" and a lot of us remember what junk they proved to be.

RE: RV Fire Investigation

Am I the only owner/user of a Norcold 1200 who has an understanding of the series of elements which occur in order to start a fire,....AND who understands why the latest recall safety device is a successful deterrent?
Nope, but there are other ways for a fire to start in the 'fridge area. Considering how many of them are out there, very, very few ever catch fire. However, it only takes once. ;)
That said, I'm not swapping mine out for a residential type. :)Exactly

RE: Tongue low or Tongue Level ?

That's surprising. Being I tow a TT, I like to take notice of others towing TTs and their set-up. I would say 80 to 90% were level. But I did notice the majority of people towing utility trailers were anything but level, some of which were going down the highway like a dog wagging it's tail.

RE: Beware of Dutchman RVs

This QC problem reminds me of back in the 70's when the Big 3 were turning out Pinto bombs and Vega rust buckets, etc. They just cranked them out and too bad for the consumer. The initial foreign cars were dicey, too but I think it made the US up the ante on quality. The current RV industry doesn't have any competition, so they give us junk and we can go pound salt if we don't like it.That really sums it it quite well.

RE: Why park right next to me?

When you choose to stay in a "public" campground, expect to put up with the public. As already stated there a various reasons someone pulls up in the very next site beside your's. Be it their choosing, assigned site, or maybe even previously reserved by them. Just imagine their dismay if they had reserved a particular site and upon arriving at an almost empty campground, find that you are occupying the site right next to theirs. It works both ways.

RE: Interesting Tire Observation...

Having no experience with a similar situation, grandude,I would have thought the same as you. Didn't think it would be that big a difference in tire performance just by opting for a lower speed rating. Good to know.
Though according to MARKW8's post, different vehicles have more or less performance issues.

Since you asked..............all though I'm no "expert", I would say go for it. I know I will be.
I plan on ordering a 2012 F-150 w/3.5L Ecoboost sometime in January.

RE: 2008 sunline 865ws

Sadly "Sunline Coach Company" went out of business in 2007, so there is no way that camper is a Sunline. I quite often see "Sunlite" rv's advertised as Sunlines.
Absolutely right. And thanks to Kanyonkitty's recommendation, we purchased our "Sunline" TT in the Spring of 2007. Very unfortunately Sunline Coach Co. closed their doors in September of 2007. They did build a quality product.

RE: Letters on keyboard worn off

Learn to touch-type? :B
Yes, similar to what I would recommend to everyone.
Increase your typing skills. Learn to type without even looking at the keyboard. When I went to school we learned to type without the keys being labled. (blank keyboards) That still has a big pay back for me today through increased efficiency.

RE: towing vehicle for 28.5' Arctic Fox

Any GOOD half ton would handle it and most any 3/4 ton or larger would do it. Your biggest concern is probably going to be the 1,000 lb. empty tongue weight. It'll be more when you're loaded. Standard half ton and many 3/4 tons will be overloaded with that much weight so get the biggest payload you can. Good luck / Skip
So all of us Dodge, GMC, Ford, Chevy half ton owners are not driving "GOOD" trucks? :S Come on Skip, give us a break. Your half ton had the extra heavy duty/payload package with numbers more in line with a 3/4 ton. Heavy Duty half tons are rare and to compare their towing abilities to the normal half tons out there is ludicrous. The OP's trailer is one of the best out there but it is a tad heavy (as in very well built). Most of the half ton Fords, Chevies, Dodge etc will run out of payload before they get to their towing limits. With a GVWR of 10,400# he will have a tongue weight of 1350# and that is using 13% of GVWR. I can't think of any reason to tow his rig with less than a 3/4 ton... just because you "can" do something doesn't mean it is a good idea. As always opinions and YMMV. :C
Why the jab at Skip?
I didn't read anything in his post specifically stating only a Ford half ton would be GOOD.

RE: Might be time to worry a little

If it is illegal, I hope they catch every one of them.
Tax cheats, be it local, state, or federal taxes, cause the rest of us to make up the revenue losses due to their cheating. No, I do not like paying taxes, but I do pay them where due.
